Sri Lanka Eases To 99-Run Victory To Clinch ODI Series Against Bangladesh 2-1
Kusal Mendis smashed his sixth ODI hundred and led Sri Lanka to a commanding 99-run victory in the third and final one-day international as the home team clinched the series 2–1. Mendis marshaled Sri Lanka to 285–7 with an aggressive 124 off 114 balls after captain Charith Asalanka won the toss and elected to bat. The Bangladeshi batters struggled against the pace of Dushmantha Chameera and Asitha Fernando who shared six wickets between them to bowl out the visitors for 186 and give Sri Lanka an eighth successive win in a home ODI series. Fernando clean bowled Tanzid Hasan (17) with a searing yorker in the third over of the chase and Najmul Hossain Shanto then deflected Chameera's incoming delivery back onto the top of the stumps for nought as the visitors slipped to 2–20. Sri Lanka's middle-order struggled against the spin as Dunith Wellalage (2–33) and Wanindu Hasaranga (2–35) struck with regular intervals and the Bangladeshi batters also couldn't put up strong partnerships. Towhid Hridoy (51) made a fighting half century off 78 balls before Chameera returned and knocked back the stumps with another superb inswinger and Fernando varied his pace to perfection for two wickets of the tailenders to wrap up the game. Earlier Mendis marshaled Sri Lanka to a strong total and together with Asalanka shared a strong 124-run fourth-wicket stand. Mendis was strong on the leg side and smashed 18 fours in his chanceless century as he punished anything pitched short with his short-arm jab pull shots while sweeping the spinners to perfection. 'My batting coach said that if I score we will win,' Mendis said. 'I played a different game in the last match but today I played my normal game after speaking to the coach. The pitch was a little slow but it came on better later on.' Bangladesh had kept Sri Lanka in check at 3–100 in 21 overs before Mendis and Asalanka took charge. Sri Lanka looked set to get past the 300-run mark but Bangladesh came back well in the last 10 overs. Asalanka who made 58 off 68 balls holed out in the deep in the 41st over when he missed out on a low full toss of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. Mendis fell in the 46th over as he top-edged a short ball from Shamim Hossain who grabbed a catch over his shoulder. Ahmed finished with 2–51 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 2–48. 'We didn't get partnerships in the middle and from the openers,' Bangladesh captain Miraz said. 'That was the problem for us. Our team is young they need time. If you give opportunity it might pay off one day.' Both teams will now compete in a three-match T20 series starting from Thursday.

Bangladesh fight back to level ODI series in Sri Lanka
Tanvir Islam's maiden five-wicket haul and Parvez Hossain Emon's maiden half-century have helped touring Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka by 16 runs in the second one-day international, levelling the series. Bangladesh were out for 248 in the 46th over at R. Premadasa Stadium and Sri Lanka looked to be cruising at 2-75 before being reduced to 8-170, needing 79 more runs. The ninth-wicket stand between Janith Liyanage and Dushmantha Chameera knocked off 58 runs but the pressure told in the end. The series stands at 1-1 with the decider on Tuesday in Pallekele. Bangladesh lost their first wicket with the total on 10 when Tanzid Hasan (7) edged fast bowler Asitha Fernando to wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis. Emon and Najmul Hossain Shanto overcame the early loss of Tanzid Hasan with 63 runs for the second wicket. Shanto was out for 14 to Sri Lanka captain Charith Asalanka but Emon lasted for 67 off 69 deliveries until he failed to read a googly from leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga. Emon hit three sixes and six boundaries. Towhid Hridoy's 51 off 69, including only two boundaries, pushed Bangladesh and there were useful contributions from Tanzim Hasan Sakib (33 off 21), Jaker Ali (24) and Shamim Hossain (22). Fernando took 4-35 and Hasaranga 3-60. Chasing 249 to win, Sri Lanka lost opener Pathum Nissanka for 5 but Kusal Mendis and Nishan Madushka shared 69 for the second wicket with the former brought up his 34th ODI half-century in just 20 deliveries, striking 56 off 31 deliveries, including a six and nine boundaries. Sri Lanka slumped to 6-132 in the 30th over, still needing more than 100 runs. Janith Liyanage (78) did his best with two sixes and seven boundaries but it was not enough to prevent Bangladesh claiming the win.

Fernando's 4-35 restricts Bangladesh to 248 in 2nd Sri Lanka ODI
COLOMBO - A career-best 4-35 by seamer Asitha Fernando helped Sri Lanka bundle out Bangladesh for 248 inside 46 overs in the second one-day international in Colombo on Saturday. The 27-year-old right-arm seamer, fresh from an English county stint with Glamorgan, used a mix of short-pitched venom and clever changes of pace to restrict the visitors. The home side's bowlers hunted in packs, with leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga claiming 3-60, backed up by some sharp fielding and catching. With the series on the line, Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat. Several batsmen got starts, but none went on to capitalise. Najmul Hossain Shanto looked set before throwing his wicket away by mistiming a long hop straight to long-on when on 14. Shamim Hossain (22) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (9) fared no better, both falling to the short-ball trap by holing out to fine-leg. The 23-year-old Parvez Hossain Emon struck a fluent 67 off 69 deliveries to register his maiden ODI half-century with five fours and three sixes. Towhid Hridoy scored 51 off 69 balls but Bangladesh's inability to stitch together partnerships proved costly as wickets fell at regular intervals. From 218-9, a spirited last-wicket stand between Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman added 30 runs that could yet prove crucial.
