Northants fought hard throughout day three after starting 190 runs behind with three wickets already Procter again dug in, but it was James Sales who dominated the stand of 53 as he took three boundaries in an over off the usually economical Timm van der on 35, edged through to Chris Cooke in the Netherlands international's next over and Rob Keogh, in sketchy form, made a nervy start before edging Fernando behind for six to leave them started brightly, lofting a couple of leg-side sixes while Procter ground on conscientiously, but the skipper's vigil was ended by Fernando switching angles and giving Cooke his third catch of the obdurate 50 stand followed between Zaib and Lewis McManus but Zaib edged James Harris to Sam Northeast at slip with the visitors still 17 in arrears, and Justin Broad chipped Van der Gugten's first delivery with the new ball to Ben Sanderson and Harry Conway added 74 for the last two wickets before Harris and Fernando finished them off, courtesy of fine catches from Kiran Carlson and Cooke again.A target of 66 looked modest but Sanderson had other ideas as he had Zain Ul Hassan caught behind for got off a pair first ball, clipped his second just short of mid-wicket and was close to lbw on his third, before Sanderson found a thick edge and the Australian was left to bemoan a rare double failure. Tribe and Northeast calmly reduced the target to 26 by the end of the day's scheduled overs, and the umpires sensibly gave them the chance to finish have another home fixture to finish the Championship block against Middlesex on Friday 23 May, while Northants host Gloucestershire on the same day.

Rothesay County Championship Division Two, Sophia Gardens, Cardiff (day one)Northants 185 (65.2 overs): Procter 61; Fernando 3-28, Gorvin 3-36 Glamorgan 82-3 (28 overs): Ul Hassan 25; Conway 2-37Glamorgan (3 pts) trail Northants (1 pt) by 103 runs with seven first-innings wickets standingMatch scorecard Glamorgan struggled to 82-3 in reply to Northamptonshire's modest effort of 185 all out as the bowlers dominated a slow-scoring first day in visitors fell apart after being strongly placed on 99-1 at lunch, with Andy Gorvin claiming three top-order wickets and Asitha Fernando also taking captain Luke Procter's 61 was the top score by some way as Glamorgan's seamers again got their reward for bowling as a unit, with six wickets going for 35 in early afternoon. But Glamorgan in turn found life tricky with the bat as Australian star Marnus Labuschagne, playing his first innings of a brief two-match stint, fell for nought to compatriot Harry Conway (2-37). Both sides came into the game on the back of a first win of the campaign and Northants, who included Justin Broad for Liam Guthrie, got off to a solid start partly thanks to a generous helping of came up in the 14th over before Ricardo Vasconcelos (18) clipped Gorvin to Asa Tribe at was battling bravely despite being hit painfully amidships twice in the first session, and another half-century stand followed with George Bartlett as the visitors passed 100 in the over after had been little hint of the mayhem to come before Bartlett, on 20, edged birthday boy James Harris to van der Gugten had James Sales caught behind for nine and Procter, after striking 10 boundaries, eventually fell to Gorvin, caught down leg-side by Chris Cooke once the umpires had made sure the ball Lankan paceman Fernando joined the party, getting some movement with the older ball to remove Saif Zaib and Lewis MacManus, either side of Gorvin sending back Rob Keogh - all to slip catches as the pitch offered just enough to the bowlers. A brief eighth-wicket revival from Broad (23) and Harrison (24) provided token consolation before Zain Ul Hassan, Van der Gugten and Fernando wrapped up the innings in the space of three overs either side of the process, Sam Northeast claimed his fourth catch of the day while Glamorgan stalwart Van der Gugten reached 300 first-class wickets in his Hassan (25) and Tribe started calmly with a stand of 46 before Ul Hassan mistimed a pull shot and dragged a ball from Procter onto his much-anticipated arrival of the usually effervescent Labuschagne proved a damp squib as he looked tentative before edging the giant Conway to third slip for a seven-ball duck, with the South Australia quickie following up by forcing Tribe to prod to slip for 18. Northeast and Kiran Carlson, celebrating both his 27th birthday and his 100th first-class appearance, dropped anchor to leave their side marginally in front at the close.

The home side resumed with a mountain to climb at 156-8 in their first innings, and although George Garrett edged Fernando over the slips, the tail-ender dominated the early scoring in a stand of lasted 52 minutes before Garrett, on 35, edged Zain Ul Hassan behind, and the seamer then bowled Kashif Ali for three leaving former Warwickshire wicketkeeper Benjamin frustratingly stranded six short of a first ton for his new county. Harry Finch and Ben Compton defended quietly until lunch but after the break Finch hit the first three balls from Ul Hassan for four, only to lose partner Compton lbw to Fernando for top order fell apart for the second time in the game as Daniel Bell-Drummond edged Andy Gorvin to a diving Kiran Carlson at slip and Finch (28) edged Fernando through to Chris Cooke.A bizarre interruption saw most of the players and umpires hit the deck briefly as a bee swarm was sighted, not helping Jack Leaning's concentration as he was caught behind off Fernando next ball. Ekansh Singh, 18, was on a pair but squirted one past short-leg to get off the mark to knowledgeable applause from the Kent faithful, managing one boundary before providing Cooke with another catch off van der Netherlands international then disposed of Benjamin and Grant Stewart before top scorer Muyeye was trapped lbw by James Harris and Matt Parkinson hammered a return catch to Ben the afternoon session was extended, a slightly farcical end saw the visitors turn to double spin to improve their over-rate and last man Kashif slammed Kiran Carlson for three sixes.
