Pregnant Atomic Kitten star Liz McClarnon, 44, reveals gruelling IVF toll from feeling ‘broken' to weight gain

PREGNANT Atomic Kitten songstress Liz McClarnon has revealed her gruelling IVF toll from feeling "broken" to her weight gain. The Eternal Flame vocalist, 44, revealed the happy news of her pregnancy in May after spending two decades trying to conceive. 10 10 10 A full cycle of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) takes around 3 to 6 weeks to complete. It usually follows 6 steps, depending on the type of treatment you're having. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Liz uploaded a series of snaps from the past few years which revealed her treatments with husband Peter Cho as well as the side effects of the medication. Liz captioned the video: "After 8 IVF cycles within 3 years, as you can imagine, I've been on hormones more often than not. "I just wanted to share how it can look. Sometimes normal and sometimes very not." Liz's video began with herself looking drained as she mused: "Sometimes you could tell." Then she cut to an energetic shot of herself captioned: "sometimes you couldn't." She then shared a video of Peter helping her with her injections on their first attempt at IVF, explaining that "life carried on as normal." As the cycle continued and she needed more injections, she confessed: "I started to gain weight... of course that didn't matter." Yet she admitted she ended up feeling "a little bit broken" as the cycle continued reports The Daily Mail. The video then showed Liz receiving her final injection and making one last trip to the fertility clinic where she was filmed with "the look of hope." Pregnant Atomic Kitten star Liz McLarnon shows off huge bump and reveals she's struggling to walk with 'hulk of babies' Liz said of their three failed embryo transfer attempts in 2022: 'The first time we did it, I thought, 'This will be it. "But by my third cycle, it was obviously very different. "When that one didn't work, I was really quite sick and I was in a dark hole." She said to MirrorOnline: "I'd put on so much weight but I didn't want to tell anyone why, because I didn't want the IVF to become my identity, my whole personality. What happens during IVF (in vitro fertilisation) A full cycle of IVF (in vitro fertilisation) takes around 3 to 6 weeks to complete. It usually follows 6 steps, depending on the type of treatment you're having. Your doctor should discuss the options with you and explain each of these steps before any treatment starts. You use an injection or nasal spray every day for 2 to 3 weeks to stop your ovaries producing eggs naturally. You'll have an ultrasound scan to check if the medicine has worked. Once your ovaries are no longer producing eggs, you'll inject yourself every day for 2 weeks with medicine that increases your egg supply. You'll have tests or scans to check how well it's working. A doctor at the clinic collects your eggs using a needle inserted through your vagina. This takes around 20 minutes and you'll be offered medicine that makes you sleepy (a sedative). Your partner is asked to give a sperm sample in a private room, usually while your eggs are being collected. If you're using donor sperm, it will be ready in the laboratory. The eggs are fertilised with the sperm in a laboratory. The clinic will call you the next day to let you know how many embryos have been made and how many they might be able to use. After a few days, an embryo is put in your womb using a thin tube inserted through your vagina. If you have more than 1 embryo, your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of putting in more than 1 embryo. If any suitable embryos are left over, they may be frozen for future IVF attempts. The clinic will discuss this with you and let you know about any additional costs, such as embryo storage. "I was still doing shows and I'd see the comments online talking about me. 'I remember one said, 'She's getting really thick,' and others were like, 'She's unrecognisable.' "I tried to remember that those people didn't know what was happening, but it was hard. "I just felt broken after the third time, so we took a break before the wedding." Liz and her husband Peter got married two years ago in the Lake District. Yet towards the end of last year they suffered two tragic miscarriages. Happily, the couple are now on the road to being parents, with Liz taking precautions due to her age classifying it as a "high risk" pregnancy. BABY REVEAL Liz looked glowing in the clip posted to social media in May announcing her pregnancy to the world. The captions over the video read: "I've been keeping a secret from you, and I've mostly kept myself off social media because sometimes it was hard to smile. "But after years of sometimes quite painful IVF and dark times, I'm pregnant! "We feel like we've been given the world." Liz also wrote a heartwarming message next to the video, which read: "I started to record a video of me just telling you but I got too emotional so I thought I'd just hide behind this little announcement instead. "I just can't believe we're here. "So many have been through exactly what I went through and worse. "I want to share what I can and add my voice and ears to those who already help others understand or deal with all that comes with IVF and loss after so much hope. "I've been a part of some beautifully supportive communities. I'm so grateful. I am so grateful!" 10 10 10 10 10 10

She explained: "After 8 IVF cycles within 3 years, as you can imagine, I've been on hormones more often than not. ‌ "I just wanted to share how it can look. Sometimes normal and sometimes very not." In her social media video, Liz looked drained as she captioned it: "Sometimes you could tell." Her video then cut to her looking energic and posing for the camera as she added: "Sometimes you couldn't." Peter could be seen helping her with her injections as she said: "Life carried on as normal." As the cycle progressed, Liz needed more injections as she shared: "I started to gain weight... of course that didn't matter." However, she shared how she felt "a little bit broken" as the cycle went on. ‌ The video ended with Peter injecting Liz with her final injection as they headed to their last trip to the clinic with the singer having a "look of hope." "Lots of names going around in my head and we're getting excited," she revealed. However, Liz added that she's "still very scared" but added that the "fear dissipates slowly". Opening up about her pregnancy journey, Liz revealed that it was "awful" for her and her husband. ‌ "The first time we got about 10 eggs and a couple were fertilised. Then we went on holiday because it's so stressful - we went away to France for a few days," she shared. It was during this break that the couple were told that no eggs had reached the stage where the transfer could happen. "It was just the biggest shock of my life. I didn't expect them to say that," she said. Liz revealed that when she took a pregnancy test for the last time, she uncontrollably started crying. "I turned around and there was a faint line. Everything was amazing. I'm still super scared now but it was a good thing," she said.

Pregnant Liz McClarnon, 44, reveals the toll of undergoing eight rounds of IVF in three years that left her 'broken, gaining weight, and living in hope'

Pregnant Liz McClarnon gave fans an insight into her gruelling journey to conceive, having undergone eight rounds of IVF over three years. The Atomic Kitten star, who announced in May she is expecting her first child at the age of 44, revealed how she coped with the hormonal imbalances she faced. A full cycle of IVF takes around three to six weeks to complete and hormone medications play a crucial role in stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs and prepare the uterus for implantation. Taking to Instagram on Monday, Liz uploaded a montage of snaps from the past few years which detailed her treatments with husband Peter Cho as well as the side effects of the medication. Liz captioned the video: 'After 8 IVF cycles within 3 years, as you can imagine, I've been on hormones more often than not. 'I just wanted to share how it can look. Sometimes normal and sometimes very not.' Liz's clip began with herself looking drained as she mused: 'sometimes you could tell', before cutting to an energetic shot of herself captioned: 'sometimes you couldn't'. She then shared a video of Peter helping her with her injections on their first attempt at IVF, explaining that 'life carried on as normal'. As the cycle continued and she needed more injections, she confessed: 'I started to gain weight... of course that didn't matter'. Yet she admitted she ended up feeling 'a little bit broken' as the cycle continued. The video then showed Liz receiving her final injection and making one last trip to the fertility clinic where she was filmed with 'the look of hope'. Liz and Peter started their IVF journey early on in their relationship, as Liz explained that they were both conscious of her age - 40 at the time they met. In 2022, the couple had three failed embryo transfers, which took a mental and physical toll on Liz. 'The first time we did it, I thought, "This will be it,"' she recalled to The Mirror. 'But by my third cycle, it was obviously very different. When that one didn't work, I was really quite sick and I was in a dark hole.' 'I'd put on so much weight but I didn't want to tell anyone why, because I didn't want the IVF to become my identity, my whole personality.' The couple decided to take a break before their 2023 wedding before trying again, but toward the end of 2024 they suffered two heartbreaking miscarriages following their first successful cycles. Liz explained how she felt she was 'done' after the last loss and Peter supported her decision. 'Peter was absolutely on board with that, he didn't say anything other than, "This is your body and I'll support whatever you decide you want," which was a huge thing for me. I felt so bad emotionally, it was really tough' After a Christmas spent with her family back home in Liverpool though, they decided to try again and happily found out she was pregnant in the New Year. She announced the news publicly in May, sharing a video sitting on a park bench before turning around to reveal her bump. During the clip, she said: 'I've been keeping a secret from you, and I've mostly kept myself off social media because sometimes it was hard to smile. 'But after years of sometimes quite painful IVF and dark times, I'm pregnant! We feel like we've been given the world.' Liz captioned the post: 'I started to record a video of me just telling you but I got too emotional so I thought I'd just hide behind this little announcement instead. 'I just can't believe we're here. So many have been through exactly what I went through and worse. ❤️ 'I want to share what I can and add my voice and ears to those who already help others understand or deal with all that comes with IVF and loss after so much hope. 'I've been a part of some beautifully supportive communities. I'm so grateful.' In June 2024, Liz revealed the identity of her husband Peter as they celebrated their first wedding anniversary. The fiercely private singer took to her Stories with two snaps of her handsome spouse, after his face was previously masked by confetti i n the photo from their big day. Alongside a snap of Peter in the sunshine, Liz wrote: 'Guess what?! I've been married to my perfect match for a whole year, I love you Peter Cho!' They tied the knot in the Lake District, with the guests including Liz's former bandmate Natasha Hamilton. How does IVF work? In-vitro fertilisation, known as IVF, is a medical procedure in which a woman has an already-fertilised egg inserted into her womb to become pregnant. It is used when couples are unable to conceive naturally, and a sperm and egg are removed from their bodies and combined in a laboratory before the embryo is inserted into the woman. Once the embryo is in the womb, the pregnancy should continue as normal. The procedure can be done using eggs and sperm from a couple or those from donors. Guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recommends that IVF should be offered on the NHS to women under 43 who have been trying to conceive through regular unprotected sex for two years. People can also pay for IVF privately, which costs an average of £3,348 for a single cycle, according to figures published in January 2018, and there is no guarantee of success. The NHS says success rates for women under 35 are about 29 per cent, with the chance of a successful cycle reducing as they age. Around eight million babies are thought to have been born due to IVF since the first ever case, British woman Louise Brown, was born in 1978. Chances of success The success rate of IVF depends on the age of the woman undergoing treatment, as well as the cause of the infertility (if it's known). Younger women are more likely to have a successful pregnancy. IVF isn't usually recommended for women over the age of 42 because the chances of a successful pregnancy are thought to be too low. Between 2014 and 2016 the percentage of IVF treatments that resulted in a live birth was: 29 per cent for women under 35 23 per cent for women aged 35 to 37 15 per cent for women aged 38 to 39 9 per cent for women aged 40 to 42 3 per cent for women aged 43 to 44 2 per cent for women aged over 44

Katie Price reveals painful side effects of her bum filler

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Katie Price has been suffering sleepless nights due to 'pain and inflammation' after having filler injected into her bum. The 47-year-old former glamour model revealed she had undergone treatment on her behind earlier this week, and it's left her feeling 'a bit uncomfortable' while she's also struggling when she sits down or tries to walk. To cope with the pain, the Mucky Mansion star says she's been taking CBD oil, which has been making her feel better. In a video posted on Instagram, Katie explained: 'Bum filler update … I had my bum done two days ago and I've been feeling a bit uncomfortable in that area. 'So I've been taking this today to help with the pain and inflammation, and at night sleeping. So it's been my best friend.' She said that it had been a 'godsend' amid her latest surgery following a tricky train journey. The former I'm A Celebrity star continued: 'I know I'm going to have a good night's sleep again tonight cause I'm going to put some drops in it and remember when you order this shake it loads before taking it. And thank you for all your messages … 'So yeah, this has been a godsend because I got the train up and where I'm sitting on my bum walking, and all of this, this has been a godsend, CBD oil all the way. Love it, love it, love it.' Katie added in the caption: 'I've been so busy recently that I have been taking my oil out and about with me in my bag for if I get anxious or if I need to take a second to myself and calm down. 'Also it has been a massive help with the bum filler! I definitely do feel more comfortable after taking it and I sleep better.' She flaunted her brand new bum during a trip to Dubai, strolling across the beach in a tiny yellow bikini. Katie previously opened up about her bum filler treatment in a post on social media, revealing she preferred the injections to having a more invasive Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), which involves having a general anesthetic. She explained: 'I'm having filler done in my lips, not too much though, and having my bum done … 'See if I had a BBL in Turkey, they'd put me to sleep, and it's more dangerous cause they use your own fat, and this is just filler, and I'm here for an hour and a half and go back home and carry on with my day.' More Trending It comes after the reality TV star left fans disappointed after pulling out of another public appearance at the last moment. Katie was scheduled to appear at Glasgow Pride, but cancelled hours before she was set to hit the stage due to another 'urgent obligation.' This comes only weeks after she and former Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona also backed out of headlining Barnsley Pride. The reality TV pals had been scheduled to appear together at the event, but cancelled due to 'unforeseen circumstances' and 'personal reasons,' respectively. Got a story?
