BYD, the world's largest electric car manufacturer, is preparing to launch its most affordable electric SUV the Atto 2 in the Indian market. The vehicle is expected to compete directly with models like the Hyundai Creta Electric and MG ZS EV. How Will BYD Takeover Tesla? Elon Musk's Tesla is falling behind BYD (Build Your Dreams) as Chinese auto makers are expanding its global EV portfolio rapidly. In India, it has launched fully electric models like the Atto 3, Seal, Sealion 7, and eMax 7. The company may introduce another new model. The BYD Atto 2 was recently spotted testing on Indian roads so it can be launched soon according to media reports. It is below the Atto 3 and electric SUV will be the most budget-friendly offering in BYD's India lineup. Competitors To BYD In India It was first shown at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show, the Atto 2 goes by different names in different markets, It is known as the Yuan Up in China and Yuan Pro in Brazil. Built on BYD's e-platform 3.0, the Atto 2 measures: Length: 4,310 mm Width: 1,830 mm Height: 1,675 mm Based on its size, it will compete with EVs like the Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6, Tata Curvv EV, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. Spy images reveal a fully test mule of the Atto 2. However, it appears that the India-spec version will closely resemble its international counterpart. BYD seems to be mulling the plan to add another electric car to its India lineup, which currently has models like Atto 3, Seal , eMax 7 , and Sealion 7 . The Chinese electric car giant that has been throwing tough challenges to Tesla has been testing the BYD Atto 2, which was first unveiled at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. A test mule of the BYD Atto 2 was recently spotted on Indian roads, which fuelled speculation about the possibility of the launch of this EV in the country. What if BYD Atto 2 lands in India? BYD India hasn't officially confirmed the launch of the Atto 2 in India. However, the auto company has been witnessing rising demand and popularity of its cars in India. Hence, bringing a more affordable EV to the Indian market could help the brand rake in more sales numbers, giving it a stronger grip in the market. Considering this, Atto 2 seems the automaker's next big launch in India. Watch: BYD Atto 3: First Drive Review BYD Atto 2: What it offers? BYD Atto 2 is basically the next entry-level electric car from the automaker, which could come to India as the most affordable model from the brand in the country. If launched, the Atto 2 would be positioned below the Atto 3. Available with different names in different countries, the BYD Atto 2 is already on sale in markets like China and Brazil. The China-spec BYD Atto 2, which is dubbed as Yuan Up in the country, is powered by a 45.1 kWh battery pack, paired with a single electric motor, and churns out 175 bhp peak power and 290 Nm of maximum torque. It promises an NEDC-rated range of 380 kilometres on a full charge. It is not clear if the test mule spotted in India is powered by the same electric propulsion system or not. The Atto 2 has a compact size and a feature-packed interior. Dimensionally, the BYD Atto 2 is 4,310 mm long, slightly shorter than its bigger sibling Atto 3. It looks boxier and has a more upright approach, while the interior features a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster. BYD's next electrifying drive has arrived! BYD Sime Motors has unveiled the BYD Atto 2, an all-new electric compact SUV designed as the go-to thrilling ride for a new generation of drivers. Bringing premium electric vehicle (EV) technology within reach, the BYD Atto 2 is tailored for first-time drivers, trendsetters and go-getters eager to embrace electric mobility. Sime Motors managing director Andrew Basham said the Atto 2 is more than just a vehicle - it's a lifestyle model built on innovation, designed to connect with a new generation of Malaysians. "Innovation doesn't end with the car. We're rethinking how Malaysians can own and enjoy an EV by making it more accessible, flexible and convenient," Basham said at the launch on Thursday. "We are removing major barriers for easy EV ownership with flexible payment plans and a partnership with Power Up - the first in the industry to offer mobile EV charging delivered right to your doorstep. This will be especially helpful for those living in high- rise residences," he added. Sime Motors, he said, is expanding its nationwide network to 60 BYD outlets by 2026, strengthening the EV ecosystem with local partners to ensure every Malaysian can access the support they need. BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said with the Atto 2, it had created an EV that speaks to the needs of young drivers and first-time EV users in the country, coupling BYD's innovative edge with today's trend-setting lifestyle features. "It embodies the spirit of versatility, practicality and style synonymous with our brand. "As BYD's pioneering youth-oriented model with all-new features and innovations, the Atto 2 sets a new benchmark in its class." The Atto 2 is packed with technology and personality. With short overhangs, sculpted lines and a confident road presence, the Atto 2 blends strength with durability. Inside, the cabin is equally refined, featuring synthetic leather seats, premium black interior and a spacious layout designed for comfort and modern living. At the centre is a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen with built-in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that support both wireless and wired connections, keeping everyone seamlessly connected and entertained on the go. Powered by a 130kW electric motor delivering 290 Nm of torque, the Atto 2 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds. It offers a smooth, responsive ride with an NEDC-rated range of up to 410km, ideal for daily commutes and weekend getaways alike.
