Nissan Is Working On A Cheap Sedan For The Masses
Embattled automotive giant Nissan is facing a tough time. The company has been forced to lay off thousands of workers and cancel plans for increased battery production. Things are going so badly that some question how long Nissan can survive. But with new CEO Ivan Espinosa at the helm and promising new vehicles, hope endures, and one of those new vehicles has just been unofficially revealed through patent images discovered by Top Gear Philippines. The images were filed in China in September last year and officially registered exactly one month ago, suggesting that the sedan they depict will make production. The boomerang-shaped headlights remind us of some Hyundai and Kia designs, while the lightbar at the rear calls to mind the Dodge Charger and Durango. And while we can't see much detail in these images, the fastback shape indicates that this vehicle may play loose with the term "sedan," likely appearing with a liftback tailgate like the latest Audi A5. This gives the vehicle the style and grace of a sedan with the cargo-carrying and loading abilities of a hatchback. More than that, we cannot be sure of yet, but this design conforms to the new language heralded by last year's Beijing Auto Show concepts, which included a sedan with similar looks to this. That Nissan Evo concept was announced as a plug-in hybrid, and it's likely that this new sedan would also avoid going all-electric. Since we don't know exactly what car this previews, it's difficult to estimate the price. Its size is unclear from this filing, and both the Altima and the Sentra could do with a makeover. A new Maxima could also make a certain amount of sense, especially with the upcoming Leaf crossover filling the needs of those who need a taller vehicle. Until we hear something directly from Nissan, though, it's too soon to get excited. The fact that the patent images were filed in China could mean that the car will never reach America, especially if it ends up being produced there, but it also means this shouldn't carry an exorbitant price, and the U.S. market is in dire need of more affordable cars. Louth man smashed up car owned by ex partner's new boyfriend ‘in fit of rage'
Keith Shelbourne, Avenue One, Yellowbatter, Drogheda, came forward on a signed plea of guilty to a charge of criminal damage at Ellwood, Ballymakenny Road, Drogheda, on October 29, 2023. The car he targetted, a 2017 Audi A5, was written off by insurers. He handed over €10,000 compensation. The court heard that Mr Shelbourne and the lady had broken up. They had a child together. On this occasion he turned up at a house in the early hours of the morning after seeing her in a car with someone else. He began kicking the Audi and shouted for the other man to come outside. The defendant hit the car with a rock, smashing its windows. He used a child's scooter to smash the rest of the windows and break off the wing mirrors. All the while the victim was videoing the incident which was reported to Gardaí at 1.05am. Gda Dara Quinn said that Mr Shelbourne, who has no previous convictions, accepted that he smashed up the vehicle. He didn't express much remorse. The €25,500 vehicle was written off by the insurance company. The witness agreed with counsel that this occurred 'in a fit of rage'. There was no indication of any violence in the defendant's previous relationship, while the two men were not known to each other and had no further contact. The compensation was accepted. ADVERTISEMENT In a Victim Impact Statement, the man said that he had recently purchased the car. As a result of what happened he had to buy a cheap van to get to work. His insurance premium had more than doubled from €450 to €950. It was stated on behalf of the accused that he had shared access to his son and that the relationship with the boy's mother was amicable again. He wrote a letter of apology. He regretted the harm he caused. Mr Shelbourne was in full-time work and the sole carer for his mother who had suffered a stroke. It was a substantial amount of compensation for him to put together. He was willing to pay more. Judge Dara Hayes remarked that the context of this was a concern. "An attack on a former girlfriend's new boyfriend. I find that troubling and concerning. She's entitled to move on.' It was a particularly serious offence. Although the word had not been mentioned, he described it as jealousy, The judge said he would seek the guidance of the Probation Service and adjourned sentencing for a report on October 7. Man arrested for driving stolen car linked to Guelph business break-in
The interior of an Audi vehicle is seen in this undated stock image. (Guillaume Meurice/ A man was arrested after Guelph Police caught him driving a stolen car connected to a business break-and-enter Saturday. Police said an officer was patrolling on Waverley Drive at around 11:20 p.m., when he saw an Audi A5 that didn't have any license plates. The driver provided proof of ownership and identified himself, verbally to the officer, with the same name that was on the document. Police then determined the driver was not who he said he was. When officers called the real owner of the vehicle, he said he dropped his car off at a garage for servicing and confirmed no one should be driving it. Police also contacted the owners of the garage, who confirmed someone had broken into their office and stole a laptop and multiple car keys. The officer said they saw these items inside the Audi. Police arrested and charged a 36-year-old Guelph man with break-and-enter, possessing stolen property over $5,000 and breach of probation.

Gardaí fear someone will be killed as inter-family feud spirals out of control
Shots were fired at a house in Co Sligo over the weekend in the latest incident An inter-family feud is spreading in the west of the country, leading to fears someone will be killed. Shots were fired at a house in Co Sligo over the weekend in the latest incident linked to the dispute, in which a home occupied by an individual nicknamed 'The Farmer' was targeted. Sources say 'The Farmer' is not involved in the agricultural industry. No one was injured in the shotgun attack in Tubbercurry, but damage was caused to the property. The incident has led to fears that a feud that has been raging in Co Mayo, as well as in Co Galway, has led to the factions now going to war in Co Sligo. The shooting at the weekend is the fourth serious incident linked to the feud to be investigated by Sligo gardaí in recent weeks after a number of its participants moved to that county. The incidents included a criminal damage incident, threats to kill and an attempted arson attack. According to information obtained by the Sunday World, these crimes are part of 60 separate incidents being investigated by officers from the North Western Region in the last six years related to the feud. Stock image. Photo: Getty News in 90 seconds - 21st May 'Like many of these feuds, there is up to four individuals at the core – at the centre of this, but underneath them there are dozens of willing participants,' a source said. 'As this violence continues to spread now to a different county, there are genuine fears that someone could get killed – this is what happens when shots are let off and houses are set on fire. 'A lot of this agitation is spread on social media where so-called call-out videos are posted, which are simply just encouraging violence.' Sources have said there is a view among some gardaí that more needs to be done to deal with the feuding gangsters terrorising some parts of the west of the country. This is despite an operation last July in which officers targeted one of the gangs at the centre of the feud. Gardaí seized €75,000 in cash, three vehicles, a Tiguan SUV, an Audi A5 car and a Ford Transit van, as well as a 'large amount' of designer watches and multiple electronic devices in Galway. Two bank accounts, both within and outside the jurisdiction, with cash and cryptocurrency valued in excess of €990,000 were frozen under money-laundering legislation. The gang targeted in last summer's operation is considered to be the biggest drug-dealing mob in Co Mayo and also has 'significant influence on organised crime in Co Galway', a source said. Investigations have established that the Mayo-based gang have been sourcing their drugs from two bigger crime networks – one based in Sligo and the other in Limerick. Two families based in Mayo originally formed an alliance against two families from Galway city, but now more families have been dragged into the dispute – the origin of which is unclear. As part of the feud, there have been several shooting incidents, petrol and pipe-bomb attacks, ramming of cars and other violent incidents as well as multiple death threats, often issued on social media.
