Calgary Stampede, July 12: This guy's seen everything over 48 years Pink sunglasses for charity
There are only two days left before Stampede cowboys and cowgirls hang up their hats, the final notes are played on stage and the midway rides take on their last passengers. Article content There will be much to see around the grounds and on the infield — and even for someone like Stampede Rodeo camera operator Dennis Genereux, who's seen pretty much everything in his 48 years on the job, he's primed to expect the unexpected. Article content Article content Article content Article content The former guitarist for Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, and occasional member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, Tom Morello presumably has plenty to rage against these days in his home country. The artist's solo work has always been an interesting hybrid. His most recent single — Pretend You Remember Me — is a moody and tense mid-tempo rocker full of blazing guitar riffs. In 2021, he teamed with Springsteen for a slick but powerful cover of AC/DC's Highway to Hell. He also released albums under the name The Nightwatchman, his acoustic-based left-wing alter ego. Who knows what the Stampede audience will get, but it will likely be memorable. Article content Article content At their best, Alberta's Blake Reid Band recalls the Band's musical interplay. Reid also possesses a rich, expressive baritone and knack for penning country hooks and songs that seem custom-built for the stage. Check out the bluesy and dramatic Big Train and rollicking, fiddle-fuelled Penny from 2021's No Roads In to prep for the show. Rocker Makes Touching Tribute to Late Bandmate Chris Cornell on Anniversary of His Death
Tom Morello is honoring his former Audioslave bandmate Chris Cornell on the anniversary of his death. Morello, 60, who rose to rock stardom as the guitarist for Rage Against the Machine, took to Instagram to honor Cornell, with whom he last performed in January 2017. Cornell died by suicide in May 2017. "Eight years ago today we lost @chriscornellofficial," Morello wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of the duo smiling and performing together in 2014 at a benefit concert for 15 Now, a grassroots organization that fought for a $15 minimum wage in Seattle. "While he was a bandmate and a friend I never stopped being a huge FAN of his incredible talent and voice. So glad he and Soundgarden are being inducted into the @rockhall where they belong. You will never be outshined, my friend." Morello has previously opened up about the relationship he shared with Cornell, who rose to fame with the band Soundgarden. According to Morello told Metal Hammer last year that he believes forming Audioslave and having that constructive outlet was the thing that kept Cornell healthy for many years. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 'I believe that the good fortune of all us having met bought him 16 more years. That band was so liberating,' Morello shared. 'It really felt like the horizon was completely open. And you know what? Standing onstage with Chris Cornell beside you is pretty great.'

Chris Cornell Charts A New Posthumous Top 10 Hit
Audioslave's 'Like a Stone' climbs to No. 10 on Billboard's Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, marking ... More the band's first top 10 on the tally. American rock band Audioslave performs on stage, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, July 11, 2003. Pictured is singer Chris Cornell. (Photo by) Audioslave may no longer be an active band since the tragic loss of frontman Chris Cornell years ago, but that doesn't mean people aren't still listening to the music that the group left behind. More than 20 years after it first introduced the supergroup to the world, 'Like a Stone' is still racking up enough plays to make an appearance on the Billboard rankings. This week, the single reaches a new high on one genre-specific tally, giving Audioslave a rare chart win. 'Like a Stone' moves up just one space on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart, but that single rung makes a big difference. The tune rises from No. 11 to No. 10, officially breaking into the top 10 on that list for the first time. The tally, which ranks the most-streamed hard rock tracks in the U.S. across platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, has never seen Audioslave rock this high before. Despite being one of the most respected rock bands of the early 2000s, Audioslave has only ever reached the Hard Rock Streaming Songs ranking with 'Like a Stone.' That means this frame's new peak is also the band's first trip into the top 10 on that list. While 'Like a Stone' originally arrived more than two decades ago, it only found space on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart for the first time in August 2024. Since then, it's racked up 15 nonconsecutive frames, falling off of the list, only to return again – and in this instance, climb higher than ever. Audioslave isn't the only Cornell-backed act charting this week. Soundgarden, the band that first made the late singer a rock icon, is also present on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs tally. This frame, the group's classic 'Black Hole Sun' keeps at No. 17. That single has proven to be one of Soundgarden's most celebrated smashes, as it has now spent 60 weeks on the roster, and previously peaked at No. 5. Audioslave was formed by combining members of two powerhouse rock outfits: Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden. The band released its self-titled debut album in 2002, and 'Like a Stone' quickly emerged as its breakout hit. The track became an early rock 2000s staple, thanks in part to Cornell's unmistakable vocals and a slow-burning melody that fans are clearly still enjoying to this day, decades later.
