Headscarves: The retro trend everyone's talking about

'Headscarves can be a personality definer' If there's one accessory you can continue to style until your warm beanies are out, it's the headscarf. Whether styling it with your regular denims and white tee or pairing your lehenga choli with a printed bandana just like Alia Bhatt wore at a friend's pre-wedding function, with a single knot, head scarves can add a quirky edge to your look. Since the accessory is having a moment, channel your inner Audrey Hepburn with these tips. 'Tie around your head, neck, or just put it over your shoulder' Elaborating on bandana's versatility, celebrity stylist Naheed Driver, adding, 'For a beach outing, think a pair of fun aviators, a headscarf and a bikini under a crochet dress – it's a no-brainer. For a brunch, wear a tank top with a pair of barrel jeans and complete the look with a bandana. Experiment by tying it on as a top, tying it to your bag or using it as a belt for your dull office days.' 'It is impossible to scroll through Instagram or Pinterest and not spot someone wearing one, either on the head, neck or around the waist' (Pics: @gucci) Designer Pallavi Jaipur comments on the ongoing revival of the scarf trend, saying, 'Headscarves are an underrated accessory. It can be a personality definer.' Celebrity stylist Harshit Srivastava suggests that men can embrace the trend too. 'It is impossible to scroll through Instagram or Pinterest and not spot someone wearing one, either on the head, neck or around the waist.' It is a no-fuss accessory to amp up any outfit. One can pair a classic polo tee and linen pants with a headscarf. A solid bandana can add a pop of colour to your basic khaki or pair of denim. Try hand-painted scarves or carrés in pastel and sorbet colours Harshit Srivastava, celebrity stylist Quirky ways to amp up your basic headscarf Classic chic: Channel vintage glamour by styling a silk scarf loosely around your neck. Fold it into a triangle, wrap once around your neck, and either let the ends hang or tie a soft knot to the side. Pair it with a trench coat, button-down shirt, or a little black dress. Go for sleek monochromes or polka dots – think Audrey Hepburn charm. Edgy & feminine: Add a fashion-forward edge with a scarf bracelet. Fold into a slim band, wrap around your wrist twice, tie a knot or small bow. Style it with cropped sleeves, add rings, or layered bangles for that boho vibe. Cameron Diaz serves elegance in a still from My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) & Lily Collins adds a flirty Parisian twist with a blue, silk ponytail scarf Effortless glam: Roll a printed scarf into a slim strip and tie it into a bow or knot on the bag handle. Vibrant prints, florals, or geometric contrasts work best. Upcycle old dupattas or saris into unique bag scarves for a personal twist. Statement-making: Take a large square scarf (silk or satin), fold it into a triangle, wrap it around your torso and tie at the back or neck like a top. Pair it up with high-waisted trousers or skirts, sandals, and gold hoops. Madras checks, modern stripes, or bel patterns are good options — skip overly intricate florals or geometries. Flirty & feminine: Bring colour and motion to your hairstyle. Tie a narrow scarf around a high ponytail, low bun, or braid it through your plait. Let the ends flutter. Add a straw hat or cap for a chic look. Mango or pomegranate prints lend a quirky, playful vibe. – Inputs from designer Pallavi Jaipur

Rome's forgotten river is actually home to some of its greatest sights

4 Peek through the keyhole at Piazza dei Cavalieri di Malta Atop the Aventine Hill, one of Rome's magnificent seven mounts and the site of the gorgeous Giardino degli Aranci (Orange Garden) overlooking the Tiber, is this Roman novelty. You'll probably have to queue for a glimpse, but it's worth it for the perfectly framed, almost-too-good-to-be-true view of St Peter's Basilica, flanked by poplar-like trees, that can all be enjoyed through the bronze keyhole in the huge priory door. 5 Relive the classic scene from Roman Holiday Resist, if you can, the urge to queue before Bocca della Verita, or the 'Mouth of Truth' for an obligatory photo (and definitely don't place your hand in the mouth). But do pause to admire this slightly scary-looking medieval carving as you enter the Basilica di Santa Maria in Cosmedin, distinguished by its elegant Romanesque bell tower. Film buffs will recall that Bocca della Verita features in Roman Holiday, the delightful 1953 Hollywood romantic comedy. In it Gregory Peck plays a hilarious practical joke – relating to the legend that claims that if you place your hand in the carving's mouth and tell a lie its jaws will snap shut – on his co-star, Audrey Hepburn. 6 Stroll along the quiet banks of the Tiber A great way to escape the Rome ruckus is to take a walk along the Tiber's serene banks, something few Romans do. The river's 13-metre embankments – built in the 19th century to contain the river and prevent flooding – were scrubbed of graffiti in time for this year's Papal Jubilee though doubtless it's returned. While the embankments do spare Rome from periodic flooding they also deny the city a relationship with the river akin to that of Paris and its Seine. 7 Capture the classic Tiber River scene at dusk One of the eternal images of the Eternal City is the photo opportunity that presents at dusk from Roman Emperor Hadrian's 134 AD Ponte Sant'Angelo. In the right conditions, as night begins to wrap itself around Rome like a papal cloak, feathery pink clouds can form around the orb-like dome of St Peter's Basilica, with even the capital's much maligned, all aglow, waterway picture-perfect in the rapidly fading light.

I've tried dozens of hair masks– this is the one that actually repairs damage

The £40 hair mask that was originally created for Audrey Hepburn, but has also taken pride of place in our shower I've been having a bit of a hair crisis as of late. I've been a tape-in extension wearer for the best part of a decade, but these heatwaves have not been mixing well with my masses of added hair. With the sweat and humidity, my scalp has felt product-heavy, itchy, and greasy—not glamorous. So, a few weeks ago, I decided to ditch my beloved tape-ins until at least autumn in a bid to give my natural hair a much-needed break from root strain and avoid the discomfort of heavy-feeling hair over the summer months. While I made sure my extensions were professionally maintained so that damage was kept to a minimum, my natural hair wasn't in its best condition when they came out. Most of the damage was scraggly ends that needed a chop, but my natural strands also felt a little weak and lacklustre. What I needed was a tried and trusted treatment to nurse them back to health, and I found it in Philip Kingsley's Honey Nectar and Peach Elasticizer, £40 for a tub. This pre-shampoo treatment (yes, not exactly a conditioner) isn't just a cult favourite for no reason– it's packed with powerhouse ingredients that bring real results, which I can attest to. Originally created for Audrey Hepburn in the 1970s to help revive her hair after weeks of it being heat-styled on set, the Elasticizer is all about bringing bounce, hydration and strength back to stressed-out strands like mine. The Honey Nectar & Peach edition smells like a summer afternoon- soft, juicy peaches and a delicate hint of warm honey- but it's not just about fragrance. The formula is rich in hydrolysed elastin, which helps to improve hair's stretch and strength, reducing breakage and snapping. You've also got castor oil to lock in moisture and olive oil to soften and add serious shine. It's super simple to use, just apply once a week to damp hair before shampooing, leave on for 10–20 minutes (or longer if you fancy– sometimes I wear mine for a few hours while I'm working), then rinse and wash as usual. I've been using it for the best part of a month now, and my hair feels so much softer, looks much shinier, and my ends no longer look split. I know it'll take a while for the thickness to improve, but it's by far the best 'instant fix' treatment I've found for damaged and dull hair. I'll share a full hair recovery breakdown soon, but another product I'm also loving is Mielle's Rosemary and Mint Strengthening Leave-in Conditioner, £9.99. I bought a bottle from Amazon after being influenced on TikTok, and I really think it's helping my hair grow back faster and stronger.
