The Brief Man shot another in the head during an argument about money Man was arrested on aggravated assault with a deadly weapon The victim later died at the hospital, and suspect is now charged with murder AUSTIN, Texas - A man is now facing a murder charge after a shooting last week at a Northwest Austin apartment complex. What we know 27-year-old Waleed Beriji is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 26-year-old Noah Talbott. On Thursday May 29, just after midnight, Austin police officers responded to a shoot/stab hotshot call at the Westdale Point Apartments at 7117 Wood Hollow Drive, just off Far W Boulevard and North Mopac. Someone called 911 and reported someone had been shot. When officers arrived, they found Talbott with a gunshot wound to the head. Talbott was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died over 24 hours later. The suspect, later identified as Beriji, had left the scene before officers arrived. The investigation that followed showed that the two men had been involved in a fight regarding money. Talbott escorted Beriji to the door, and Beriji allegedly pulled out a handgun from his bag and shot Talbott in the head before fleeing the scene. APD arrested Beriji in the 3000 block of South Congress, over 12 miles away from the scene, and booked him into the Travis County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. After Talbott was pronounced dead, Beriji was charged with murder. What's next Beriji is still in the Travis County Jail on $300,000 bond with the conditions that he have a GPS monitor, no contact with the complaining witness and a drug evaluation. 1 injured following shooting involving APD officers

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Police Department said an officer was involved in a shooting late Saturday evening following an attempted traffic stop on a stolen vehicle. APD said when officers attempted to make the stop, the stolen vehicle quickly drove away and led police on a short pursuit before crashing. The call reporting the incident came in at approximately 11:15 p.m. According to police, gunshots were exchanged between the suspect and officers at the scene after the crash. No officers were injured during the incident, and the suspect was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. During a briefing early Sunday, APD Chief Lisa Davis said the suspect fired shots at police as they approached the crash scene. 'We are very fortunate tonight that we are not reporting on an officer being shot or an officer being killed,' Davis said, 'and I want to say that the officers, again, acted very bravely in the situation where they're being fired upon, and they took action.' APD said the investigation was early on, and it was working to get the details of what led to the shooting. This was the department's third shooting involving officers in May. UPDATE: APS cancels last day at Ellis, IJ over 'potential safety concern;' AHS graduation unaffected

May 30—Due to what was termed as a "potential safety concern," at Ellis Middle School, the Austin Public Schools District has made the decision to cancel the last day of school for both Ellis Middle School and IJ Holton Intermediate School. In a letter to district parents, Superintendent Dr. Joey Page made the announcement early Friday morning. "Due to the timing of this report and our need to fully assess the situation, we have made the decision to cancel the last day of school for Ellis Middle School students," Page explained in the letter. "Additionally, IJ Holton, due to its close proximity to Ellis, will also be closed to students." Citing the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Page said he was unable to go into details regarding the situation saying only that the district was working with law enforcement to investigate the threat's nature and that it is "taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our community." "All threats of violence — even those made in jest — are taken seriously and may result in student discipline, including possible expulsion and involvement of law enforcement," Page's letter said. However, later in the day on Friday, Page confirmed that the report of a possible safety threat had come in late Thursday evening. Austin Police Chief David McKichan confirmed that the district had reached out to the Austin Police Department, which continues to look into the threat. "Austin Public Schools received information about a potential safety concern involving students at Ellis Middle School. They did contact us to investigate, and that investigation is ongoing," McKichan said in a statement. "We do have two School Resource Officers (SRO) assigned to the school district. One of those is dedicated to the Ellis/IJH joint campus and is assigned this case. The other SRO, and any of our other staff, would of course assist as needed." Page has said that this incident had no bearing on Austin High School's commencement which took place as planned Friday night. The letter ended with Page urging parents or their students that if they hear of any threats to call 911 to report it.
