Vishnu Institute of Technology celebrates Environment Day
Bhimavaram: Principal Dr Mangam Venu of Vishnu Institute of Technology (Autonomous) here stated that the National Service Scheme unit of the college grandly celebrated World Environment Day on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, he stated that the entire world celebrates World Environment Day on June 5, and in the same spirit, the college also organised the event on a grand scale. He said that NSS volunteers enthusiastically participated in activities such as planting and distributing saplings. The event was successfully conducted with the participation of the college Vice-Principal Prof M Srilakshmi, NSS Coordinator Dr K Gangaraju, the Deans, Heads of various Departments, the faculty, supporting staff, administrative staff, NSS volunteers, and students.

UG admission commences in Govt. Arts and Science College (autonomous), Coimbatore; 33,753 candidates apply for 1,727 seats
Admission for UG programmes commenced on Monday at the Government Arts College (Autonomous), Coimbatore, the second-most preferred college in the category next only to the Presidency College in Chennai. There are as many as 33,753 applicants for 1,727 seats in 23 UG courses in both shift I and II. Though the number of applicants is lesser when compared to last year's 36,000-plus aspirants, the college retains its status as the second-most preferred choice. The main demand is for computer and computer-based courses including Computer Science, Information Technology and Computer Applications, Principal M.R.R. Yezhili said. On Monday, admission counselling was carried out for special category candidates: Sports, NCC, Differently-abled, wards of Ex-servicemen, wards of security forces, and candidates from Andaman and Nicobar. Out of 150 vacancies under special category, 79 seats were filled. On June 4, the general counselling will be conducted for all subjects, except English and Tamil. Only top-ranked applicants with cut-off marks of 300 and above (Out of 400 in four main papers of Plus Two other than English and Tamil) have been called for the counselling. For B.A. programmes in Tamil and English, students who have scored above 75 in Tamil and 60 in English in Plus Two have been called for first counselling, the college has informed. Depending on vacancies that remain, the other students will be called for second counselling. The rank list and other details will be uploaded in the college website: Information regarding counselling and other details are being sent to the students through short message to their registered mobile number and through e-mail. The demand for admission at the Government Arts and Science College for Women at Puliakulam in the city is also high. There are 19,723 applicants for 410 seats in eight UG programmes. B.A. Tamil, B.A. English, Computer Science, and Mathematics are offered in shift 1, and B.A. Economics, and Computer Science in shift II. There are close to 3,000 applicants for the Computer Science programme in the two shifts.
