WATCH: Avatar Fire and Ash drops first-look trailer

James Cameron is bringing cinephiles back to Pandora as the third instalment of his Avatar franchise, Fire and Ash, has released its first trailer. The latest Avatar film follows the next chapter of the Na'vi's journey, with Zoe Saldana's Neytiri and Sam Worthington's Jake Sully meeting new tribes as they escape from the invading humans. Avatar: Fire And Ash also stars Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Bailey Bass and Kate Winslet with the screenplay being written by director Cameron, as well as Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver. A sene from 20th Century Studios' Avatar: Fire and Ash Pic: 20th Century Studios The trailer sees the Sully family dealing with the aftermath of the second instalment, The Way of Water, with Jake turning to his wife and telling her that she 'cannot live like this, baby, in hate'. Previously released concept art introduced Avatar fans to the Ash Clan, and their leader Varang, and the Wind Traders who corral gigantic Pandoran creatures to soar among the clouds. Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) in 20th Century Studios' Avatar: Fire and Ash Pic: 20th Century Studios Teasing the fearsome figurehead of the Ash Clan, Cameron shared how the group have gone through an immense amount of hardship, and hence, Varang will do anything for them, good or bad. In fact, the team went as far as not making the decisions made in Avatar Fire and Ash 'black and white simplistic' and evolve beyond the narrative that the humans on the planet are all bad and that 'all Na'vi' are good. A scene from 20th Century Studios' Avatar: Fire and Ash Pic: 20th Century Studios As for Avatar Fire and Ash's Wind Traders, Cameron told Empire Magazine: 'They're nomadic traders, equivalent to the camel caravans of the Spice Road back in the Middle Ages. And you know, they're just fun. 'Like all Na'vi, they live in a symbiosis with their creatures. If you've got any nautical blood in your veins, you'll want to be on [their] ship.'

Avatar: Fire and Ash is one of the most anticipated films of the year. Fans of the Avatar franchise were in for a surprise when the trailer leaked a few hours before the official release. However, the makers have now released the official trailer of the third instalment of the epic sci-fi drama, which takes viewers back to Pandora. However, this time, the stakes are high as conflicts have turned the place into a battle for ultimate survival. Zoe Saldana in a still from the trailer of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Avatar Fire and Ash trailer The familiar faces can still be counted upon as the immersive new adventure is glimpsed in the trailer of the James Cameron directorial. Marine turned Na'vi leader Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) returns with Na'vi warrior Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña), and the rest of the Sully family for one final battle. Also included in the battle are their children Kiri (Sigourney Weaver) and Lo'ak (Britain Dalton). The trailer introduces breathtaking new visuals without really revealing plot points of what is to come. At the end, it is about the battle for one's own identity. Oona Chaplin is finally revealed in the trailer, playing the role of a female leader named Varang. But what can viewers expect from Avatar 3? Some clues were given by actor Jack Champion, who plays Spider.'I was very shocked by [Avatar 3]. It just takes a hard left turn, and that's not a bad thing. You think you know where it's going, but then a wrecking ball comes. So you're completely like, 'Oh wow, I never thought that would've happened.' You also see more regions of Pandora, and you get introduced to more cultures. So I think it's even better than Avatar 2. Collectively, they'll each get better,' he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022. Fan reactions Reacting to the trailer, a fan commented, 'One thing we can count on; Avatar visual effects are always beautiful.' A fan said, 'Earth, Water and now Fire. Jake Sully looking like an action hero with everything he's been through.' Another said, "Amazing as always, Cameron keeps showing us why he is the master of sequels & visual storytelling. Can't forget the music by the legend himself, James Horner. He may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on forever in our hearts. RIP." A comment read, 'As soon as the destruction of home tree music played, I knew this movie is gonna be INCREDIBLE.' 'Even after 16 years since the first Avatar film was released, it still looks the same as the first one, and I still get shivers when I think about the Avatar world,' read another comment. Avatar: Fire and Ash is set to release in theatres on December 19.

Avatar Fire and Ash trailer: Jake Sully, Neytiri are set to face their greatest threat in James Cameron film

Avatar Fire and Ash trailer: Just hours after news broke that the trailer of Avatar: Fire and Ash had leaked online, the makers of the much-anticipated film took swift action. The official trailer was released early, following unauthorised circulation of footage meant to premiere exclusively alongside Fantastic Four: First Steps. The leak had already begun sparking buzz among fans and industry insiders, prompting a surge of anticipation—which was only heightened with the official drop. Directed by legendary filmmaker James Cameron, Avatar: Fire and Ash marks the third installment in the Avatar franchise, following Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and the original 2009 blockbuster Avatar. Cameron, known for pushing cinematic boundaries with Titanic and Terminator 2, appears ready to take the franchise into darker and more emotionally charged territory. The trailer opens with sweeping shots of Pandora—its bioluminescent landscapes, deep oceans, and tribal communities—reminding viewers of the breathtaking world-building that made Avatar a cultural phenomenon. Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) is heard solemnly invoking the spirits of her ancestors: 'The strength of the ancestors is here.' The tone soon shifts as Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) emerges, wrestling with inner conflict and the threat of war. 'You cannot live like this, baby—in hate.' The trailer hints at the film's core tension: the battle between vengeance and healing, destruction and survival. Avatar: Fire and Ash explores not just the external threat to Pandora, but the psychological toll on Jake, Neytiri, and their children, as they try to protect their way of life from forces both outside and within. Set to release worldwide on December 19, 2025, the film features a sprawling ensemble cast including Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Michelle Yeoh, David Thewlis, and Oona Chaplin. It is co-written by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
