'Fantastic Four' Star Ebon Moss-Bachrach Previously Played Another MCU Character

The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is looking bright with the success of The Fantastic Four: First Steps . The film has done well with both audiences and critics as well as at the box office. With its titular superhero team set to reappear in Avengers: Doomsday , it may be interesting to note that star Ebon Moss-Bachrach previously played another MCU character prior to his tenure as Ben Grimm aka The Thing. Marvel Studios carefully chose the cast for The Fantastic Four: First Steps , making sure everyone worked well together while also embodying the characters they were portraying for the big screen. Fortunately, everyone seems to have done a great job with their respective roles, with Moss-Bachrach receiving praise for portraying a tricky character given the use of CGI and VFX involved. Years prior to playing The Thing, however, Ebon Moss-Bachrach actually portrayed a character in a very different MCU project as far back as 2017. This isn't the first time that a MCU actor played two separate parts in the ongoing film and television franchise, but it's certainly interesting considering just how different these projects – and Moss-Bachrach's roles – have turned out. The aforementioned role from 2017 can be identified in the hit Netflix series The Punisher , a show that was unfortunately canceled alongside the platform's other Marvel shows before they were eventually moved to Disney Plus. In the MCU series, Ebon Moss-Bachrach played a character named David Lieberman, who also went by the name Micro. While Lieberman will likely be retired as far as MCU appearances go, Ebon Moss-Bachrach mentioned the character in addition to his role as Ben Grimm aka The Thing while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. Fittingly enough, he noted that both of his MCU roles were tributes to major Marvel creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. 'I think it's cool that Micro is named David Lieberman, who takes his last name from Stan Lee,' the actor explained. 'Then Ben Grimm is this Kirby amalgamation. So, in my brief two portrayals of Marvel characters, I've hit the two big guys. It's a deep honor that I take to heart.' It's nice to know that Moss-Bachrach found some connective tissue between these two otherwise unrelated characters. While many fans might not even recognize that Moss-Bachrach previously played a role in the MCU, it's fitting to see that he now has a much bigger role as he continues to carry on the legacy of The Thing and the people who created him.

'Fantastic Four's' Vanessa Kirby on Robert Downey Jr.: ‘The Most Incredible Human Being'

Star of the newly released film Fantastic Four: First Steps, Vanessa Kirby, seems to be enjoying her new role as Sue Storm. Thus far, as a part of the Marvel universe, Kirby has only had rave reviews for her castmates throughout the process. While Kirby and on-screen husband Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards) spent plenty of time bonding ahead of Fantastic Four: First Steps filming, she's also gushed about Joseph Quinn (Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm). Now, Kirby and the rest of the Fantastic Four will make the leap over to filming Avengers: Doomsday, the highly anticipated 2026 film. In doing so, Kirby is set to work alongside longtime Marvel star Robert Downey Jr., who'll portray the villain Doctor Doom. While speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Kirby had the highest of praise for Downey Jr., calling him an "incredible human being." "He's the most incredible human deep, kind," Kirby said of Downey. "He's been an amazing leader to us, considering we're the newbies, you know, and a lot of the others have known this world for a really long time. He's just doing the most amazing work." It's a strong review of the former Iron Man star, who's flipping to the "bad" side of Marvel for the newest addition to the Avengers franchise. It's also one that many have echoed about Downey Jr., who's been a beloved member of the series since initially portraying Iron Man. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, after being pushed back from its initial May release.'Fantastic Four's' Vanessa Kirby on Robert Downey Jr.: 'The Most Incredible Human Being' first appeared on Men's Journal on Jul 25, 2025 Solve the daily Crossword

Robert Downey Jr. reveals another Marvel comic in his Avengers: Doomsday reading material, and this one could be teasing a Doctor Doom vs. Iron Man showdown

Robert Downey Jr. has teased yet another Marvel comic in his collection of Avengers: Doomsday reading material – and this one is even more wild and cryptic than the last. On his personal Instagram, Downey posted another video that shows him listening to a song titled 'Change of Scenery' by his son, Indio Downey, before panning over to a table that shows the comic Secret Wars #1 by Jim Shooter as well as Iron Man: Legacy of Doom by Bob Layton and David Michelinie. Legacy of Doom, which hit shelves in 2008, sees Iron Man team up with Doctor Doom as part of a deal to save the world... until Doom sells Iron Man to Mephisto in exchange for an enigmatic artifact. In Secret Wars, in which the story is told over the course of 12 issues, a villain called The Beyonder sends the Avengers to a planet known as Battleworld, in which they are trapped and locked into (seemingly) eternal battle with other villains. Of course, this is seemingly the basis of Avengers: Secret Wars, which will follow Doomsday. It's worth noting that this is the comic book arc where Spider-Man receives his famous all-black costume that ends up being a living alien symbiote – which attempts to take over Peter's mind before attaching itself to Eddie Brock and becoming Venom. Yesterday, Downey posted himself reading West Coast Avengers # I took as an unofficial confirmation that the long-rumored West Coast Avengers debut will indeed come to fruition in Avengers: Doomsday. But will we see Downey return as Iron Man for a brief moment, or is this just a cheeky tease for hardcore Marvel fans? Either way, I'm very down to watch him battle himself, if that's where this is all going. Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 1, 2026. Avengers: Secret Wars will release on May 7, 2027. One returning X-Men actor isn't sure if she has any further Avengers: Doomsday scenes to shoot because they "haven't finished writing" the script

Mystique actor Rebecca Romijn doesn't even know if she's filming anything else for Avengers: Doomsday, admitting that the script is still being written. "[I'm] not quite sure [if Mystique's scenes have all been filmed]. They haven't finished writing it." Romijn told The Hollywood Reporter. "They keep everything close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps." Romijn was reluctant to share more information on Avengers: Doomsday, but added, "It was very surreal to be with my old [X-Men] cast as well as a new cast... I went back in with full ownership [of Mystique]." Romijn played the mutant shapeshifter in X-Men, X2, X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: First Class. In Avengers: Doomsday, she joins several OG X-Men actors, including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, and Alan Cumming. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has admitted that there's plenty of what he describes as "plus-ing" going on to make Doomsday as good as it could be, especially with a cast that knows these characters inside and out. "There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well," Feige said (H/T THR). "So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn't want to change that." Avengers: Doomsday will hit cinemas on December 18, 2026. The topline cast include Robert Downey Jr., who is playing Doctor Doom. Though a recent social media post features a comic that includes an Iron Man vs. Doctor Doom showdown. We can but dream... Even though Avengers: Doomsday has been filming for 3 months, Marvel boss Kevin Feige says the script is still being worked on: "There's plus-ing happening every day"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Despite being in production for three months, Avengers: Doomsday is still evolving every day on set, says Marvel boss Kevin Feige. At a press event, Feige denied that Marvel had ever started a movie without a full script, but did say he's never been happy with a script or even finished movie. Instead, he said he and Marvel preferred "plus-ing at every turn." In fact, there is "plus-ing" occurring on the set of Avengers: Doomsday as we speak. "There's plus-ing happening every day on the Avengers: Doomsday set right now, and it is amazing to watch because what those filmmakers, those actors, both the ones that are playing these characters for the first or second time and the one playing them for the 10th or 12th time, are the best in the world at it, and know these characters so well," Feige said (H/T The Hollywood Reporter). "So if they have an idea, you want to listen to it and you want to adjust to it and you want to improve it. I wouldn't want to change that." Feige also revealed that Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness scribe Michael Waldron is assisting Stephen McFeely with the script. Avengers: Doomsday has a bumper-sized cast, with everyone from Anthony Mackie's Captain America to Ian McKellan's Magneto set to appear in the film. And, of course, all eyes will be on Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom, who is sure to cause serious trouble for our favorite heroes. The Marvel Phase 6 movie arrives this December 18, 2026.
