Did Avengers: Endgame ruin the MCU for good?
Marvel Studios seems ready to make a comeback with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars around the corner. As Doomsday is still in development with the Russo Brothers directing, one can only wonder what the filmmakers have in store for fans in 2026 with their next superhero crossover film. However, until Doomsday arrives, it is questionable whether the film can match the success that Avengers: Endgame achieved in 2019. Having garnered extraordinary reviews and nearly a record-breaking $2.8 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, Avengers: Endgame seemed to be the best movie that the MCU would ever produce. Since the film premiered, Marvel has struggled to recapture the magic that it presented in cinemas with their ongoing Multiverse Saga. While the MCU was never going to be the same after Endgame, it appears that this blockbuster phenomenon was the peak of a franchise now struggling to keep its footing. Recommended Videos Avengers: Endgame set an impossibly high bar for the MCU Following the many hit-or-miss movies and shows that came out after Endgame, it seems like Doomsday may not achieve the same level of hype from fans as the former movie. Critics have repeatedly described MCU films like Spider-Man: No Way Home, Deadpool & Wolverine, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Thunderbolts* as the best Marvel movie since Endgame, showing how it is now widely considered the gold standard for all MCU projects. However, whenever someone compares a new MCU film to Endgame, it seems to nullify all the positives about the many great post-Endgame movies. Avengers: Endgame shouldn't even be considered the top benchmark for the MCU, as the film isn't without its flaws. There are multiple plot holes, some fan service is forced, Hulk's character arc is rushed, and the jokes made about Thor's weight go too far. In many ways, Infinity War was arguably a superior film. Nevertheless, audiences had never seen a superhero blockbuster like Endgame before it came out, and it will be hard for the sequels to live up to everyone's expectations set by the Avengers' exciting fourth film. Endgame left a massive MCU without a clear roadmap The story for Endgame was the product of over ten years of buildup that began with 2008's Iron Man, with Thanos lurking in the shadows since 2012's The Avengers. After the extraordinary success of Endgame and the conclusion of the Infinity Saga, the MCU seemed to be going off in several different directions, with the studio unsure of what to do next. As Marvel was trying to create more and more content for audiences to enjoy in theaters and on streaming, it was still trying to figure out the plot for its next crossover event, not knowing how all these pieces would come together in the end. That isn't to say that Marvel Studios had the entire Infinity Saga planned out from the beginning. The Infinity Saga succeeded as Marvel focused on releasing one to three films each year, with critical and commercial failures becoming rare as they prioritized quality or quantity. However, as Marvel tried to keep the hype train rolling after Endgame with a steady supply of films and TV shows, the MCU seemed to lose its way as the studio focused on keeping people on board instead of setting up a clear destination, leading to several rushed and clunky stories. Marvel has trouble moving on from its original cast Due to the events of Avengers: Endgame, the film made it difficult for the MCU to move forward in a new direction. Specifically, the movie featured the heartbreaking deaths of Tony Stark and Natasha Romanoff, as well as the disappearance of Steve Rogers. The legacies of these beloved heroes and the actors who played them have been hard to live up to in the post-Endgame era. Even with younger proteges like Peter Parker, Sam Wilson, and Yelena Belova standing tall on their own, the MCU is still struggling to fill the void left behind by some of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Right now, it seems Marvel is still trying to capitalize on Robert Downey Jr.'s popularity as Iron Man by having him play Doctor Doom, replacing Kang the Conqueror as the main villain of the Multiverse Saga. This move invokes memories of Disney bringing Emperor Palpatine back as the villain of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker after the divisive reaction to The Last Jedi. While there will be more buildup for Doom's introduction with The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Marvel risks pulling a hasty course correction with legacy casting in order to bring the franchise back to its Endgame glory days. Overall, Avengers: Endgame didn't exactly ruin the MCU. While there have been some poor decisions with the franchise following the film's release, there have been several outstanding movies and shows that prove that Marvel still has it. While Avengers: Doomsday may not stick the landing and achieve the love and success garnered by Endgame, final judgment about the film can't be passed until it hits theaters.

Scarlett Johansson Says Oscars Snubbed AVENGERS: ENDGAME: 'It's One Of The Most Successful Films Of All Time' — GeekTyrant
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Scarlett Johansson didn't hold back her frustration that the Marvel epic, Avengers: Endgame , was brushed aside by the Oscars despite its staggering box office success and emotional storytelling. 'How did this film not get nominated for an Oscar?' Johansson said, while promoting her upcoming directorial debut Eleanor the Great , which is set to premiere at Cannes. She elaborated further, adding: 'It was an impossible movie that should not have worked, that really works as a film, and also, it's one of the most successful films of all time.' Endgame pulled in nearly $2.8 billion globally, making it the second-highest-grossing movie of all time, behind only Avatar . The Oscar snub discussion isn't new, especially when it comes to superhero films. Marvel Studios has collected plenty of nominations in the Visual Effects category, with Endgame being no exception. Films like Doctor Strange , Iron Man , Spider-Man: No Way Home , and Shang-Chi have all been acknowledged technically, but Best Picture has largely remained out of reach, Black Panther being the rare exception. Joe Russo, co-director of Endgame , has also weighed in over the years, pointing out the disconnect between cultural impact and Academy recognition. Marvel films may dominate the box office and shape pop culture, but that doesn't seem to carry over to the industry's most prestigious awards. Outside of the Oscar conversation, Johansson confirmed she's officially done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, even as some former Avengers dabble in multiversal cameos. 'It would be very hard for me to understand in what capacity [returning] would make sense for me, for the character that I play,' she said. 'I miss my buddies and really would love to be with them forever, but what works about the character is that her story is complete. I don't want to mess with that. For fans too — it's important for them.' It's a fitting sentiment for a character who sacrificed everything to save the universe. Source: Deadline

Blue Origin Space Trip Inspires Katy Perry Jokes, Gayle-Oprah Memes and Some Criticism: ‘PR Is Dumb'
Blue Origin's all-female flight crew has continued to create conversations, but when the ladies officially launched to space on Monday, so did a wave of jokes and gags that were aimed at the divisive journey funded by Jeff Bezos. 'Gayle King is all of us on a Monday,' one social media user wrote on an X post that was coupled with a clip of the journalist walking over to ring Blue Origin's silver bell. King boarded the spacecraft alongside Katy Perry, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, bioastronautics research scientist and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, journalist (and Bezos' fiancée) Lauren Sánchez and former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe. Another X social media user pointed out that Perry missed the opportunity to perform her hit song 'E.T.' during the trip — while others teased the pop star for building up so much hype around the first-of-its-kind event only to be in space for a handful of minutes. Others, still, were critical of the trip altogether, saying that it sets 'a terrible precedent' for celebrity luxury travel to space 'as if it's a Disney park ride.' And one critic took issue with Bezos' involvement and Sánchez's participation. 'This is as silly as that forced girl power moment in the middle of the battle in 'Avengers Endgame,'' they wrote. 'A billionaire sending his wife into space with some rich female celebrities just for space is safe. PR is dumb.' The six-member flight took off on Monday, and it's the first all-female spaceflight crew since 1963, according to Blue Origin. The expedition featured Bezos' ship called New Shepard. Check out some of the most hilarious and standout reactions to the trip below: The post Blue Origin Space Trip Inspires Katy Perry Jokes, Gayle-Oprah Memes and Some Criticism: 'PR Is Dumb' appeared first on TheWrap.

‘A Minecraft Movie' Audiences Are Officially Out Of Control As Theaters Issue Warnings
A Minecraft Movie Microsoft It's all well and good when kids are clapping and cheering and yelling out memes during certain moments in A Minecraft Movie. But now things are getting to the point where lines are being crossed and this is a lot more than kids just enjoying something aimed at them somewhat loudly in a theater. Things have gotten out of hand with (mainly) teens doing things like using enormous bags of popcorn like confetti, slinging it all around theaters during specific moments (often the 'chicken jockey' scene). If you think that sounds bad, watch it in action: This has resulted in everything from warning signs at theaters telling people not to throw popcorn or drinks (which the poor theater stuff will have to clean up) or even (unconfirmed) reports of police being called to screenings. Sometimes the theaters are such a mess that the screening afterward has to be cancelled due to the extensive cleaning needed, which of course, is lost ticket sales and potential mass refunds. Again, there is a difference between clapping and cheering and memeing during a movie like this, which, though annoying for 'regular' viewers, seems like the kind of theatrical 'event' we have rarely seen. So there should be some leeway there. Screaming through an entire movie or trashing a theater so badly it's essentially vandalism is far less cool. It's believed that a lot of this is inspired by TikTok trends where teens are trying to top the videos they see with even more insanity. Does Warner Bros. care? They haven't issued a statement on all this craziness, as they are no doubt more than satisfied with the end result, over $300 million in initial box office receipts, the most ever for a video game adaptation, and the movie is well on its way to a billion dollars with a sequel no doubt in tow. And for a second film, there are plenty more untapped meme moments that may create similar crazy situations. It's hard to even compare this to another theatrical experience. Some have mentioned Avengers Endgame with big audience cheers when Captain America gets Thor's hammer and things like that, but this is not really even close, several orders of magnitude above that. Again, vocal excitement for a movie like this may be understandable or even fun. But there's a time when that practically extends into property damage and disturbing the peace, and some screenings are stepping over it.
