Egyptian president follows up on initiatives to counter extremist thought

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi on Monday reviewed the Ministry of Awqaf's (Religious Endowments) efforts to renew religious discourse and combat extremism, his office said in a statement. The president met with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Awqaf Minister Usama Al-Azhari, who presented a report on the ministry's initiatives. Al-Azhari briefed the president on the 'Correct Your Concepts' awareness initiative, which he described as a cornerstone of the ministry's strategy to build enlightened religious and societal awareness. The initiative aims to correct misconceptions and counter forms of non-religious extremism that contribute to the decline of values and ethics in society. President Al-Sisi directed the continuous follow-up of the initiative's implementation mechanisms to ensure its national objectives are met, in coordination with state institutions and civil society. The president also followed up on the latest developments in formulating a strategic vision for renewing religious discourse. Al-Azhari explained that the strategy consists of four main pillars: confronting religious extremism in all its forms, confronting all forms of non-religious extremism represented by the decline of values and negative behaviours, human development, and civilization building. The minister presented the 'Renewal of Religious Discourse' document, which includes executive measures for each of the previous pillars, aiming to formulate a rational religious discourse that promotes values of peace, security, and tolerance. Al-Azhari also presented the ministry's new digital platform, which is part of its efforts to counter extremist thought and enhance awareness. The platform includes various sections covering different aspects of Islamic and encyclopedic sciences, as well as initiatives to rationalise behaviour and address negative phenomena in society such as bullying, harming people with disabilities, drug abuse, and vandalism of public property. The minister also discussed future plans to develop the platform, including converting its content into visual and audio formats for social media and utilising artificial intelligence technologies. The meeting also covered the latest developments in the 'Al-Aswat' (The Voices) competition, which aims to discover the best voices in Quranic recitation, religious invocations, and chanting. The Egyptian President directed continued coordination with the relevant authorities to enhance the capabilities of imams, qualify distinguished personnel capable of facing challenges and improving the level of religious discourse, and develop communication mechanisms, especially in combating extremist thought and consolidating awareness of contemporary issues.

QNA Doha The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs, represented by the Department of Dawah and Religious Guidance, launched the summer Dawah program 'Hikaya' devoted to girls and children, which is purposefully directed toward fostering Islamic identity and promoting behavioural and ethical values among youngsters. The program primarily intends to reinforce national Islamic identity and affiliation through staging interactive lectures and workshops overseen by female professionals specialising in religious and pedagogical guidance in a catalysing and secure environment, Awqaf said in a statement on Sunday. Awqaf releases second edition of ‘Message of the Quran'

Doha The Department of Islamic Research and Studies at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has released the second edition of the book "Message of the Quran," as part of its collective cultural projects series. The ministry stated in its announcement on Saturday that this new edition responds to high demand from readers and intellectuals, following the depletion of the first edition published in 2010 to mark the completion of the Mushaf Qatar. Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies Sheikh Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani explained that the book presents a collective intellectual effort from a number of writers and researchers from Arab and Islamic countries. It explores the central role of the Quran in the civilizational advancement of the Ummah, its approach to correcting previous religious perspectives, and its universal message to all humanity. He highlighted that the book emphasizes the Quran's role in promoting reflection and contemplation, encouraging inquiry into cosmic sciences as a pathway to progress, and clarifying the foundations of a righteous civilization and the causes of its decline, all framed within a Quranic vision that integrates faith, moral values, and material development. He affirmed that the release of this edition reflects the Ministry's commitment to enriching the cultural landscape with scholarly references that meet readers' aspirations for a deeper understanding of the Quranic message and its civilizational impact.

'Israel' conducts raid on cemetery, says Gaza's Awqaf Ministry

The Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) in Gaza has condemned what it described as a "horrific crime" committed by 'Israeli' forces at dawn on Thursday, after they stormed the Turkish Cemetery in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, using tanks and bulldozers. In a statement, the ministry said 'Israeli' forces dug up graves, desecrated the site, and stole the remains of the dead, calling it a barbaric and criminal act that violates all religious, humanitarian, and international norms. The ministry stated that the assault on the cemetery represents a blatant attack on the sanctity of burial grounds and a disregard for human dignity even after death, reflecting what it called a "deep moral and humanitarian void in Israel's actions." The raid reportedly coincided with the demolition of nearby displacement camps, displacing hundreds of Palestinian families who had sought refuge there from the ongoing war. 'This crime only adds to the suffering of civilians in Gaza,' the statement read, noting that Palestinians in the Strip have endured catastrophic humanitarian conditions amid a war that has lasted over 21 months. The ministry further revealed that around 40 of Gaza's 60 cemeteries have been damaged or destroyed during the ongoing 'Israeli' military campaign. The statement concluded by urging international legal and human rights organizations, including the United Nations, to launch an urgent investigation into the incident. It also called on the international community to assume its humanitarian and moral responsibilities, to act immediately to stop repeated violations against the Palestinian people, and to hold 'Israel' accountable for its crimes, against both the living and the dead, and to protect religious and cultural sites in Palestine.
