HM the Sultan receives written message from President of the Union of the Comoros
Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik received a written message from His Excellency President Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, regarding bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries. The message was received by His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister , during a meeting today at the Ministry of Foreign with His Excellency Mbae Mohamed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the President's Special Envoy to the Union of the Comoros. During the meeting, the Comorian Envoy conveyed the greetings of His Excellency the President of the Union of the Comoros and his best wishes for continued health, well-being, and a long life to His Majesty the Sultan, and for continued progress and prosperity to the Omani people. For his part, His Excellency the Minister of Foreign entrusted the guest to convey the greetings of His Majesty the Sultan to His Excellency the President of the Union of the Comoros, and His Majesty's best wishes for happiness and continued success, and for further progress and prosperity to the brotherly Comorian people. During the meeting, the two sides discussed the historical relations and fraternal cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and the Union of the Comoros. They exchanged views on ways to develop the partnership in the economic fields, particularly food security, transportation, and tourism, for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries. The two sides also discussed a number of issues and developments of common interest, as well as the efforts made to achieve peace, harmony, and the establishment of security and stability throughout the world. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs, and a number of officials from both sides.

GEM receives Comoros President, Japanese minister
Comoros President Azali Assoumani and Japanese Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Toshiko Abe visited the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) on Saturday 10/5/2025. Assoumani commended the greatness of the Egyptian civilization and admired the archaeological artifacts on display in the museum as they narrated stories from the history enriching the humanitarian awareness. The museum also received the Japanese minister, who met with Ahmed Ghoneim, the CEO of GEM, to boost joint cooperation with Egypt in the fields of culture, education and archaeology. The meeting discussed horizons for future partnerships with a number of museums, universities and cultural institutions in Japan in order to exchange experiences and build human capabilities.

Egypt, Comoros leaders urge unified African stance on continental challenges - Foreign Affairs
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros emphasised in Cairo on Sunday the importance of maintaining a unified African position in addressing the continent's various challenges, according to the Egyptian presidency. The two leaders discussed key regional and continental issues, focusing on the African Union (AU), the developments in Gaza and Sudan, the situation in the Horn of Africa, and Red Sea security. The Union of Comoros chaired the AU from February 2023 to February 2024. According to the Egyptian presidency, the talks also covered development-related challenges such as poverty reduction, debt relief, and the effects of climate change across Africa. The statement added that the two leaders highlighted the vital role of the Community of Sahel–Saharan States (CEN-SAD) in supporting counterterrorism efforts. They agreed to ensure fair representation for Africa within international institutions. Egypt-Comoros ties During a press conference, El-Sisi highlighted the shared Arab, African, and Islamic identity between both countries as a strong foundation for deeper cooperation. He reaffirmed that the Egyptian government and companies stand ready to support the development plans in the Comoros, particularly the Emerging Comoros Plan (ECP). Furthermore, the Egyptian president noted that Egypt is willing to share its development experience with the Comoros and support development projects in African countries. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Comoros in health, education, tourism, fisheries, energy, and infrastructure. During the conference, the two presidents highlighted that Egypt and the Comoros' membership in the COMESA regional bloc supports broader regional integration goals. The Egyptian presidency stated that the two leaders witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding between the two nations. According to the Observatory of Economic Complexity (OEC), the value of Egypt's exports to Comoros increased from $1.49 million in 2018 to $6.2 million in 2023, reflecting a 33.1 percent annual growth. Similarly, the value of Comoros' exports to Egypt increased by 24.8 percent annually over five years, reaching $1.35 million in 2023 from $446,000 in 2018. Sisi receives Assoumani on Sunday to discuss Egypt-Comoros ties, regional issues
CAIRO – 4 May 2025: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi will meet today with President of Comoros Azali Assoumani. The meeting will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and discussing regional and continental issues of mutual interest, said the Egyptian presidential spokesman in a statement. Egypt and Comoros maintain cooperation in various key areas, including education, health and capacity building, while coordinating on developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. He conveyed the Comoros' desire to deepen cooperation with Egypt across various sectors and to benefit from Egypt's experience in supporting national development efforts. Comoros inaugurates 6.3MW solar plant funded by ADFD
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) marked the inauguration of a 6.3-megawatt solar power plant in the Comoros, funded with AED25.7 million ($7 million). The project enhances the nation's energy infrastructure, helping meet growing energy demands and stimulate economic growth, while highlighting the Fund's commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable advancement, reported WAM. Aligned with the UAE's global development strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative demonstrates a shared commitment to expanding clean energy access and building long-term resilience in partner nations. The solar plant will provide a reliable, renewable energy source for Moroni, the capital, and nearby regions, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, cutting carbon emissions, and improving the quality of life for residents. The inauguration ceremony was led by Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, in the presence of Jumaa Rashed Al Remeithi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Union of the Comoros, alongside government representatives from both nations. Praised the partnership, Azali Assoumani, President of the Union of the Comoros, said: 'The UAE has a remarkable record in driving renewable energy advancements and climate action. ADFD's role in supporting sustainable energy projects is commendable, reinforcing global sustainability principles and leveraging innovative technologies to expand access to clean energy.' He highlighted the project's transformative impact adding: 'Our collaboration with ADFD has been instrumental in achieving our development goals and our shared commitment to protecting our planet. This solar plant represents more than just an energy project; it is a milestone in our transitional journey to clean energy, strengthening economic stability and generating new job opportunities.' For his part, Al Remeithi said: 'This significant project reflects the close ties between the UAE and the Union of the Comoros, demonstrating the UAE's unwavering commitment to promote sustainable development and enhance strategic partnerships across vital sectors, particularly renewable energy. The initiative is regarded as a prominent step toward achieving environmental stability, which highlights the UAE's dedication to supporting clean energy projects, showcasing the country's keenness to strengthen global efforts to address climate change.' Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADFD, said: 'This solar plant marks a milestone in advancing economic and social development in the Comoros. By investing in renewable energy, we contribute to long-term sustainability and environmental responsibility. We remain committed to working closely with our partners to ensure this project delivers lasting benefits for present and future generations.' He emphasised ADFD's focus on clean energy as a driver of stability, adding that the support for the energy sector is a priority for ADFD, given its critical role in reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions. 'Our investment in clean energy projects reflects our commitment to drive economic stability and a sustainable future,' he remarked. The solar plant will integrate with the Comoros' national grid via medium-voltage lines, ensuring stable electricity access for the region. This project underscores the Fund's longstanding partnership with the Comoros, which has included AED 439.4 million ($ 119.6 million) in concessional loans and grants since 1979 to fund critical sectors such as energy, health, education, and transport. By advancing clean energy infrastructure, the initiative directly supports SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 13 (Climate Action), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), while fulfilling ADFD's mandate to drive sustainable development globally.
