Regragui Backs Aznou to Seize Bayern Club World Cup Chance
Morocco head coach Walid Regragui supports Adam Aznou as the young left-back looks to secure a place in Bayern Munich's squad for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup. The 18-year-old left-back was left out of Morocco's squad for the June friendlies against Tunisia and Benin, but Regragui confirmed the decision was deliberate and supportive. 'We received calls from several clubs about releasing players, and we insisted on their presence,' said Regragui. 'But in Aznou's case, I allowed him to stay with Bayern. It's a major chance for him to earn his place at the Club World Cup. I know his quality – and this serves the national team in the long run.' Aznou, who made 13 appearances for Real Valladolid during a loan spell last season, has been under close observation by Bayern's coaching staff, especially with Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito both out injured. German outlet Sport Bild reports that Aznou is being considered for the left-back role in the tournament, which begins on June 15 in the United States. Despite Valladolid's relegation, Aznou impressed during his time in La Liga. The teenager is under contract with Bayern until 2027. Regragui added that Aznou's absence from the June camp also allows Morocco to assess new talent in the squad. 'This camp is a chance to look at other players. Aznou needs to push for his future – and that will benefit Morocco when he returns stronger.' Morocco face Tunisia on 6 June and Benin on 9 June, with both matches set to take place at Stade de Fès, marking the national team's first return to the venue in 16 years. Barça in Talks to Swap Araújo for Aznou
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are reportedly exploring a swap deal that could see Uruguayan centre-back Ronald Araújo head to Bavaria, while Moroccan full-back Adam Aznou returns to Catalonia. Spanish outlet Carpetas Blaugranas broke the story, suggesting discussions are gaining traction. Bayern boss Vincent Kompany is said to be pushing for Araújo's signature, viewing him as the ideal anchor for a backline that's faltered under the pairing of Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. Kompany reportedly sees the Barcelona defender as a cornerstone for his project. On the other end, Barça are keen to reinforce the left side of their defence – a position that's been problematic since Alejandro Balde's recurring injuries. Aznou, who came through La Masia before leaving on a free to Bayern in 2022, is seen as a smart fit. Still only 18, Aznou was loaned to Real Valladolid in January and is set to return to Munich this summer, possibly just in time to be shipped back to Barcelona under this proposed exchange. No official confirmation yet, but if sealed, the deal would be a rare win-win: Bayern get a top-class defender ready for now, and Barça reclaim a promising gem for the future. Adam Aznou Set for Bayern Munich Return
'The plan is for him to go to the Club World Cup,' Freund said. Aznou's loan runs until June 30, but FIFA's special transfer window from June 1 to 10 allows Bayern to bring him back before the tournament starts in the U.S. on June 14. Valladolid, bottom of La Liga, will have finished their season by then. Bayern's defense is in crisis. Alphonso Davies is out for months with a knee injury, while Dayot Upamecano is sidelined with a knee issue. Hiroki Ito and Raphael Guerreiro are filling in at left-back, but Bayern needs options. Aznou, who barely featured in Bayern's match squad in the first half of the season, has been a regular starter since moving on loan to Valladolid last January. Freund says the loan move has helped the 18-year-old develop. 'He's taking big steps in his career. It was the right decision,' he argued. 'Now he needs as much game time as possible.' Davies will miss six to eight months after tearing his cruciate ligament. Upamecano could be out for weeks. Despite the crisis, Bayern isn't rushing to sign replacements. Freund says there's 'no need for action' in the transfer market. The club has been linked with 19-year-old Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen, but Freund dismissed the rumors. 'That's not something we're looking at.' Bayern have been drawn in Group C of the Club World Cup alongside Benfica, Boca Juniors, and Auckland City. If Aznou returns to the Bundesliga side by this summer, he could get his chance to play in an international competition sooner than expected. Tags: adam aznouBayern MunichClub World Cupreal valladolid
