Doctor Who's Ncuti Gatwa says final farewell to the TARDIS as the Fifteenth Doctor regenerates

In Doctor Who season 2 finale The Reality War viewers saw Ncuti Gatwa's final scenes as the Doctor as he steps down from one of the most iconic roles in British television. In an epic two-part season finale, viewers saw the Doctor face the Rani in an extraordinary battle to save the world and the Doctor made the ultimate sacrifice to save the life of one little girl. Watch Doctor Who on BBC iPlayer and add to your Watchlist Since being announced as the Doctor in May 2022, Ncuti Gatwa was launched into the Whoniverse and immediately taken into the hearts of Doctor Who fans across the globe. With his first appearance being part of the show's 60th anniversary celebrations in November 2023, Gatwa's arrival into the show was a never seen before bi-generation which saw him split from the Fourteenth Doctor, played by David Tennant. His portrayal of the Doctor won Gatwa a Best Actor award at the BAFTA Cymru Awards in 2024, as well as nominations for a BAFTA Scotland Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen, and Best Actor in a Drama Series at The Critics Choice Television Awards in the US in 2025. Gatwa's first full episode, The Church on Ruby Road saw the Doctor team up with companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson, and the two travelled on out of this world adventures, with episodes including The Devil's Chord, Rogue and Boom with Gatwa winning praise globally for his iteration of the iconic character. In season two, Gatwa gained another companion, Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu and the stakes got higher, with battles bigger than ever before with the duo going back in time to Miami in Lux, travelling to Lagos in The Story & the Engine as well as attending the 803rd Interstellar Song Contest before facing the Rani and Omega in his final battle to save earth before regenerating once more. Speaking of his decision to leave, Ncuti said: 'You know when you get cast, at some point you are going to have to hand back that sonic screwdriver and it is all going to come to an end, but nothing quite prepares you for it. This journey has been one that I will never forget, and a role that will be part of me forever. There are no words to describe what it feels like to be cast as the Doctor, nor are there words to explain what it feels like to be accepted into this iconic role that has existed for over 60 years and is truly loved by so many across the globe. "The fans are truly the final character and beating heart of this show and I can't thank the Whoniverse, and the Whovians, enough for welcoming me in, and making this such a touching experience. I've loved every minute of it, but now is the time to hand over the keys to that beloved blue box and let someone else take control and enjoy it every bit as much as I have. I'll truly miss it, and forever be grateful to it, and everyone that has played a part in my journey as the Doctor.' Speaking of Ncuti's departure, Russell T Davies, Showrunner said: "What a Doctor! Thank you, Ncuti! As his final words say, this has been an absolute joy, and the team in Cardiff and everyone who has worked on this show for the past few years, are so lucky to have been part of Ncuti's great adventure as he shoots off to stratospheric new heights." Lindsay Salt, Director of Drama added: 'When Ncuti Gatwa first stepped foot on the TARDIS we instantly knew he was going to be an iconic Doctor and it wasn't long before his dazzling performances captured the hearts of so many around the globe. The role of the Doctor is like no other and Ncuti's dedication, charisma and magnetism has taken the Doctor into unchartered territory which we have never experienced before. As Ncuti himself said at the start of this journey - unlike the Doctor he may only have one heart, but he is giving it all to this role - I think we can all agree that he did that, and more. Thanks, Ncuti for being such a special part of the Whoniverse.' But as viewers said goodbye to the Fifteenth Doctor they got a hello from a much-loved face... As everyone said farewell to this iconic Doctor, they also got sight of a very familiar face as the Doctor regenerated and it was none other than Billie Piper... Billie first appeared in the Whoniverse when Doctor Who returned to screens in 2005, as Rose Tyler, the much-loved Companion to the Doctor played by Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant. But just how and why she is back remains to be seen… Speaking of the surprise twist, Russell T Davies adds: "Billie once changed the whole of television, back in 2005, and now she's done it again! It's an honour and a hoot to welcome her back to the TARDIS, but quite how and why and who is a story yet to be told. After 62 years, the Doctor's adventures are only just beginning!" Speaking of her return, Billie says: "It's no secret how much I love this show, and I have always said I would love to return to the Whoniverse as I have some of my best memories there, so to be given the opportunity to step back on that TARDIS one more time was just something I couldn't refuse, but who, how, why and when, you'll just have to wait and see." Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television. EP/NH/JA2

'Mind-blowing' series is now available to stream for free

The critically-acclaimed series has a 93% Rotten Tomatoes rating, and is based on the real-life hunt for the Unabomber, who terrorised the US with a 20-year bombing campaign The celebrated US drama Manhunt: Unabomber, with an impressive 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is now accessible for streaming at no cost in the UK. Initially launched on Netflix, the series has found its new home on STV Player, which serves viewers across the UK. ‌ Manhunt: Unabomber offers a dramatised retelling of the gruelling FBI pursuit to capture the 'Unabomber', a notorious criminal genius whose campaign of domestic terrorism spanned decades, resulting in three fatalities and 23 injuries. ‌ In this compelling eight-part series, A-list actor Sam Worthington portrays Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald, a rookie FBI profiler determined to apprehend the cunning terrorist. The intelligence and skill of the Unabomber aren't the only hurdles for Fitz, as he confronts the internal struggles within the UNABOM Task Force – the joint law enforcement group established to pursue the Unabomber's case, reports Surrey Live. ‌ Although Fitz introduces the innovative technique of forensic linguistics to the investigation, it faces scepticism from his peers in the task force due to its unorthodox nature. With obstacles looming, the question remains whether Fitz can navigate the bureaucratic impediments to secure the capture of the mastermind behind two decades of terror in the United States. Adding to the star-powered cast, BAFTA nominee Paul Bettany features as Ted Kaczynski, the mathematical prodigy and ex-Berkeley professor, who was eventually exposed as the Unabomber in 1996. ‌ Critics have showered the series with accolades, with The Hollywood Reporter describing it as "interesting in its depiction of how years of using traditional methods and failing to catch America's most notorious serial bomber gave way to something experimental and new". The Los Angeles Times has extolled the series, which is part thriller, part true-crime drama, as a "win on all fronts". Fans of the Manhunt anthology can also indulge in the second series, Manhunt: Deadly Games, available on STV Player, following the FBI pursuit of the 1996 Olympic Games bomber. If Manhunt isn't quite your thing, STV Player offers a rich variety of alternatives. Among these are the Canadian legal drama Burden of Truth, the Irish police procedural Red Rock, and New Zealand's longest-standing soap opera, Shortland Street, all ready for viewing.

Loose Women star bags major new role days after ITV's brutal daytime TV cuts

A Loose Women icon recently took to her Instagram page to announce the release of her new podcast, with its first episode released today (Friday 30 May) An iconic Loose Women panellist has landed a brand new job just days after ITV announced its shock changes. The popular daytime programme will air for just 30 weeks each year from January, one of several changes ITV is making to "reinvest across the programme budget in other genres." It reportedly left some Loose Women stars worried for their future, particularly Coleen Nolan, who a source had said was "shocked and blindsided" at the decision. It also emerged some panelists were "in a state of panic and up in arms" about the bombshell changes that were only recently announced – while Nadia Sawalha broke down in tears and said "I could be let go tomorrow" as she discussed the cuts. ‌ ‌ Amid the panic, panellist Judi Love revealed she landed herself a podcasting gig. On Friday morning, the 44-year-old comedian took to her Instagram to reveal the first episode of Our Table. Fellow Loose Woman panellist Charlene White is joining her for the brand-new show, along with David Gyasi, comedian Michelle de Swarte and actress Deborah Ayorinde. "Our Table will launch on Friday, the 30th, on YouTube and all major podcast platforms!," Judi recently posted on social media. "We have an exciting series lined up, featuring incredible guests and engaging conversations. Join us at Our Table!!" ‌ Fans congratulated her on her new venture, as one said: "Well done Judi, an incredible trajectory," and another posted: "Yesssssssss! Congratulations our Judi." Nadia Sawalha added: "Truly overwhelmed at how fabulous this show is..." The guests of the first episode discussed "identity, ambition, and the life experiences that have shaped them" over a Caribbean-inspired meal made by Chef Dom Taylor. ‌ "Honest, moving, and often hilarious, this episode sets the tone for a series that's all about real people and real talk," the description explained. Meanwhile, ITV recently stressed Loose Women plays an important part in its daytime schedule, and told the Mirror that wholesale changes to the panel are unlikely. The ITV source said: "We are not planning any radical changes to the panel. All of our Loose Women are hugely valued and we celebrate each and every one and the experience and opinions they bring to the show every day. ‌ "Many of our long standing panellists have appeared on the show for the majority of its 25 year run on screens and those stalwart, Loose legends are at the core of the show's success and hugely popular with the audience. The show remains a big priority within our daytime slate, having secured a BAFTA nomination, launched a podcast and celebrated a milestone anniversary in the last year alone." The programme, which first aired in 2000, won a Royal Television Society award earlier this year for its Facing It Together campaign against domestic violence.

Film fans have just days to watch 'most perfect film ever made' before it's axed from BBC

Paddington 2 has been described as the perfect feel good movie Fans of the film will be sad to learn it's making a great escape from the BBC, with just days left to watch the 'perfect' feel-good movie. Paddington 2 was the follow-up success to the first Paddington film, based on the famous British bear who first apeared in a children's book in 1958. The sweet bear's legacy lives on in the modern take on the character and the second film has a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes of 99%. ‌ The film sees Paddington the bear happily settled down with his loving family and a vital part of the community, all while he's working hard to save for a special present for his Aunt Lucy's 100th birthday. Although, in the process, before he gets a chance to buy her the beloved book, it's stolen and Paddington is framed for the crime. ‌ He's soon sent away to prison after being wrongly accused, and even there his true kind-hearted ways find a way to transform even the most hardened of inmates. Now, he and his family, the Browns, are on a mission to find the real culprit and prove to everyone that Paddington is innocent. It helps that the film has an outstanding cast of iconic British actors, including Hugh Grant, who plays Phoenix Buchanan; Hugh Bonneville as Henry Brown and Sally Hawkins as Mrs Brown. Viewers have praised the acting in the film for its quick wit and family-friendly appeal. ‌ One review states: "Paddington 2 is a spectacular film, full of whimsy and delight. The visual gags provided by Paul King are amazing and very creative. Hugh Grant is electric in his role, and Sally Hawkins provides a great warmth and heart to the film." While another viewer writes: "one of the best movies I've ever seen. I recommend it to anyone. It's really kid-friendly. The actors are really great, and the plot is just 10 out of 10." The first Paddington film was a box office hit, went on to gain BAFTA nominations and saw the likes of Nicole Kidman on screen, so expectations were high for its sequel - fans seem to think it didn't disappoint. A viewer said: "Paddington 2 surpasses its predecessor while maintaining its original context but expanding the narrative into a more adventurous and life-enriching experience. "These lessons continue to elevate the core of the Paddington stories. In a rare occurrence, a golden family film that merits Oscar recognition is seldom seen, Paddington 2 undoubtedly deserves this recognition for its solid family-friendly qualities. " One Paddington fan believes it was a "cinematic masterpiece", and they left the cinema in "absolute tears". A few years later after the 2017 release, the third addition to the Paddington film hit the big screen in 2024, Paddington in Peru. Before it disappears from BBC on June 10, you can watch Paddington 2 now for free on BBC iPlayer.
