Graham Norton confesses he was overcome with emotion before 'secret' shoulder surgery as he was forced to confront his own mortality

Graham Norton has revealed he broke down in hospital before undergoing a 'secret' shoulder replacement earlier this year. The chat show legend, 62, admitted the moment left him unexpectedly emotional as he was forced to confront his own mortality. The presenter has so far been type-lipped about the reason for the major surgery, which left him in a sling for appearances at Eurovision and the BAFTA TV Awards in May. However, now speaking on the latest episode of his Wanging On podcast, Graham admitted that the magnitude of the operation caught him off guard and he was overwhelmed with emotion while waiting to be wheeled into surgery. 'I was sitting in the hospital room and I wasn't on any drugs or anything - it was before I was taken down - but you're in the gown and you just feel so vulnerable, and you're wearing those funny slippers,' he said. 'I did feel quite emotional. I knew I would, but you are facing your own mortality. You just feel quite vulnerable in that moment. I was surprised I got as totes emosh as I did.' The star also described in graphic detail the extent of the damage to his shoulder as he confessed: 'I now have a young bit of me. My shoulder's brand new. 'Sadly, there was no old shoulder left. It was all just ground down. 'One bit is plastic - it is a ball and socket - so one bit is now plastic, and [one] bit is porcelain but with a little bit of titanium stuck into the bone and a big long cut.' Graham said the surgery involved a dramatic incision that he compared to a shark attack, adding he got 'loads' of stitches. 'I mean, it's a big old I-was-eaten-by-a-shark kind of thing.' He also recalled a funny exchange with his doctor during a recent follow-up appointment: 'When I was at the doctors for the sign-off to get rid of the sling and everything, they did an X-ray. And he was showing me the X-ray, and went, "would you like to take a picture of that?" And I went, what for? And he looked hurt. He went, "well, people might want to see it".' Fans first noticed something was amiss when Graham appeared at the BAFTAs in May with his left arm in a black sling. Days later, he turned up at the Eurovision Grand Final without the sling but admitted on BBC Radio 2 that he was just two weeks post-op and still on a heavy course of medication. 'This is my left shoulder's first appearance on radio, (it's) a brand new shoulder. It's less than two weeks old. 'It feels a bit new, it's a little owie (painful), but forgive me, I'm on many, many medications right now, so if I say anything bad, it's not my fault!' The presenter did not elaborate on what caused his shoulder problems.

The The NHS says weaning often happens gradually as your baby begins to eat more solid foods. They note that solid food shouldn't replace breast milk, as there is evidence to suggest breast milk helps a baby's digestive system when processing solid food for the first time. "Once they are eating solids, your baby will still need to have breast milk or formula as their main drink up to at least their first birthday," recommends the NHS. "Cows' milk isn't suitable as a main drink for babies under one, although it can be added to foods, such as mashed potatoes." You can also combine breastfeeding with formula, too and the NHS says "phasing out" of breastfeeding is often For example, dropping one feed in the day or at night time. After around a week, you can begin to think about dropping another. "If your baby is younger than one year, you'll need to replace the dropped breastfeed with a formula feed from a bottle or (if they are over six months) a cup or beaker, instead," they say. Future of gritty BBC drama ‘with obvious parallels to Netflix's Adolescence' revealed

A TV insider said: 'The parallels between the new show's central topic and Netflix's recent hit, Adolescence, are obvious, but entirely coincidental. 'Though both deal with adolescent offending and its consequences, the third series of Time would most likely have gone down this path anyway. 'But it is certainly a theme which will prove highly immersive for audiences who have already been introduced to the world of young offenders through Adolescence. 'It's not clear yet which actors will take the lead in the new show, but the lead roles are guaranteed to be sought after.' The first series of Time aired on BBC One in 2021, starring Stephen Graham as a prison guard and Sean Bean as a lag. At the 2022 BAFTA TV Awards, it won Best Mini-Series, while Sean scooped the Best Actor gong and Stephen was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Season two aired in 2023, also on BBC One, starring Jodie Whittaker, fresh from playing the Doctor in Doctor Who, and The Last Of Us star Bella Ramsey. But before taking us back behind bars, writer Jimmy is likely to be preoccupied with the publicity for his next BBC show, Unforgivable, which stars Anna Friel, David Threlfall and Anna Maxwell Martin. Set and filmed in Liverpool, the BBC Two and iPlayer fictional drama will look at the impact of grooming and sexual abuse on a family, and is expected to air later this year. Former EastEnders star Brian Conley and his daughter Lucy, who's also an entertainer, join the line up. And yesterday Scarlette Douglas and her brother Stuart – hosts of Channel 4's Worst House On The Street – were also announced as contestants. As they all go on the run, it's likely Amy and Carlos will be lightest on their feet. The BBC's hunt for the next John Motson lands today. Maura Higgins sends pulses racing in a skimpy white bikini as she soaks up the sun during lavish Mykonos trip

sent pulses racing in a skimpy two-piece as she soaked up the sun during a lavish trip to Mykonos on Monday. The Love Island bombshell, 34, flaunted her incredible physique in the blue and white striped bikini, which featured an elegant flower detail. She seemed to be fresh out of the pool as the reality TV personality wrapped her brunette tresses into a fluffy white towel in the sizzling Instagram snaps. To accessorise her pool-side look, she wore a myriad of charm bracelets on one arm and some simple gold bangles on the other. As she sunbathed on a white sun lounger by the pool, Maura can be seen sipping from a white cup. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Maura also took to her Stories to share sizzling snap of her in a triangle yellow bikini and a white sun hat. The trip comes after her big return to the red carpet, following her 'drunken' kiss scandal with McFly 's Danny Jones earlier this year. The brunette beauty pulled out all the stops at the BAFTA TV Awards earlier this month, turning heads in a backless blue gown with a huge skirt. But while she made sure all eyes were on her on her arrival, Maura was later pictured sitting alone during the ceremony and reportedly didn't stay long before making a sneaky backdoor exit. In a photograph exclusively obtained by MailOnline, the presenter could be seen sitting by herself on her phone in her stunning ball gown at the event. Meanwhile, in pictures published on The Sun, she later risked the wrath of BAFTA as she left an hour into the ceremony as she snuck into a taxi. A source told the publication: 'Maura wanted her red carpet return to be a big moment. She thinks enough time has passed — she can't hide forever.' Explaining how her huge dress meant she was uncomfortable in the cramped hall they continued: 'She was talking about her dress taking up too much space and was absolutely boiling. 'So she snuck out with pal Luke Hamnett while a nominations reel was shown. It'll be frowned upon in TV circles as the Baftas is an incredibly prestigious event and leaving is a big no-no.' Maura hit the headlines in March, after she and Danny, 39, were spotted in a compromising clinch at the Universal Music's BRIT Awards afterparty, after appearing on I'm A Celeb together last year. The married singer is said to no longer have a 'normal relationship' with his wife Georgia, 38, and while they are still living under the same roof, they now have 'separate lives'. Both Danny and Maura have generally kept away from public events since the scandal, until her big return at the BAFTAs, where she kept mum on the kiss. While she wasn't at risk of any awkward reunions with Danny as he reportedly skipped the ceremony to avoid 'putting a foot wrong' with his wife. Danny previously issued a public apology to Georgia and their seven-year-old son Cooper, admitting he was 'deeply sorry' and vowing to deal with things privately. Sources previously claimed to MailOnline that despite their efforts, the couple are like 'passing ships' and friends fear their relationship is hanging on by a thread. A source said: 'Danny and Georgia have been trying to navigate a very difficult time in their marriage and for the best part they have been taking each day as it comes. 'They may be living under the same roof, but they barely see each other and right now are like passing ships. 'Danny is preparing for his summer gigs with McFly, and Georgia has been attending influencer events and collaborating with brands, all while looking after son, Cooper, who regularly features on her Instagram profile. 'But when they're not working, Danny is out on his motorbike or exercising in the gym, and Georgia is either on her own or spending time with family and girlfriends. Maura (L) hit the headlines in March, after she and Danny, 39, (R) were spotted in a compromising clinch at the Universal Music's BRIT Awards afterparty, after appearing on I'm A Celeb together last year (both seen on the show) 'They haven't actually been publicly seen together for six weeks and behind the scenes, their relationship is anything but normal.' But now the singer is also making his TV return and will join the second series of You Bet!, ITV's rebooted challenge show, hosted by Stephen Mulhern. Danny will appear alongside former I'm A Celeb campmate Oti Mabuse and Olympian Greg Rutherford, and has already filmed some segments at London's Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. In behind-the-scenes clips shared on his Instagram last weekend, Danny looked upbeat as he returned to work, grinning alongside his co-stars and cheering on contestants tackling extreme rides.
