Man injured in street fight dies in hospital

A man who was seriously injured during a street fight in a town has died, police say. Officers say 19-year-old Liam Derret was out with friends in Market Place, Ilkeston, when an altercation broke out between other groups. He was taken to Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) in Nottingham in a critical condition where he died later on Tuesday. Two men, aged 23 and 24, initially arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent, have now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. The force said three others - two women aged 18 and 19, and a 19-year-old man - were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and bailed pending further inquiries. Specialist officers are supporting Mr Derrett's family, police added. Ch Supt Emma Aldred, who is in charge of policing the area where the altercation took place on Sunday, said: "I know how heartbreaking this news is going to be for our local communities in Ilkeston and surrounding areas. "I cannot even begin to imagine the devastation felt by Liam's family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. "I want to reassure people that we have a team of detectives dedicated to bringing Liam's attackers to justice and are working around the clock to do so." The force has urged anyone with information about the fight to come forward. Follow BBC Derby on Facebook, on X, or on Instagram. Clarkson's Farm: Harriet responds to 'awkward' Kaleb Cooper

Cooper has been Jeremy Clarkson's right-hand man since the show first hit screens in 2021. He was instantly a hit with fans, but now appears to have been 'replaced'. Cowan was introduced as the temporary replacement of farm manager Cooper on Diddly Farm. The full-time nurse, who recently urged viewers to 'be kind' following her appearance on the show, was recruited due to Cooper's professional commitments elsewhere. The newly minted millionaire is busy touring a one-man show after finding fame on the Prime Video series. Just started #ClarksonsFarm4 and Harriet is an instant hit with me. I'm sorry but Kaleb might have to start looking for new employment lol Fans of the show couldn't help but notice Cooper appeared rather unimpressed with Cowan upon their introduction when he returned to the Oxfordshire location. Jeremy Clarkson himself pointed out that Cooper needed to be kind to Cowan, telling him: 'Right, now, that's Harriet. Now be nice – behave.' Cooper then stood watching Cowan in silence as she worked, sarcastically questioning her farming skills, with Clarkson chiding him for his attitude. Recommended reading: Cowan has now assured viewers that she gets on with Cooper, and said that they have even become friends away from the cameras. During an appearance on BBC Derby, Cowan, who has a big following on TikTok, said: 'Kaleb's amazing. Me and him are so close now. He's such a good farmer and we got on really well.' She continued: 'He's another farmer to add to my phone list to ring. Everyone checks in to make sure everyone's fine.'

Driver 'left us for dead' after e-bike was rammed

A man who was riding an e-bike allegedly driven at by a 4x4 driver told police "he left us for dead pretty much", a jury has heard. Jordan Newton-Kay, 22, was riding the bike and his girlfriend Alana Armstrong was a passenger when they were allegedly repeatedly rammed by a Land Rover Discovery on a road in Derbyshire on 26 November last year. Jurors have heard Ms Armstrong, 25, was declared dead at the scene after suffering "catastrophic injuries", while Mr Newton-Kay had his leg amputated. Keaton Muldoon, 23 and of Tuckers Lane in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, denies murder and causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The trial at Derby Crown Court heard on Thursday Mr Newton-Kay's police interview, where he described what happened. He said he was riding the e-bike, with Ms Armstrong as his passenger, while his friend James Gilbert was riding another bike. They went past a 4x4 in a field and went back to see if anyone was in it and if they were all right. Mr Newton-Kay said in the interview: "He's turned the car on and turned it around and came flying at us down the lane. "He attempted to hit us four times; the fifth time he did. "I can just remember being under the car and the car flying off, and I looked down the road, and my missus said two words, not much, and she was gone. " He said Mr Gilbert came back - and "(he) tried to do CPR on Alana, but she was already gone". Mr Newton-Kay said he did not know why the vehicle had begun to chase them but thought initially it was to try and steal his bike, the court heard. He added: "He left us for dead pretty much, I don't know what was going through his head." Mr Newton-Kay said in the interview he and Ms Armstrong had been together for four years, and that he was a comfortable rider on the bike, having ridden for 13 years. He also said earlier in the day of the collision he had smoked cannabis, but said this did not affect his ability to ride the bike. The trial continues. Three arrested in missing woman murder probe bailed

Three people arrested on suspicion of the murder of a woman last seen 15 years ago have been released on bail pending further inquiries, as searches of a property in Derby continue. Izabela Helena Zablocka, who is originally from Poland, came to work in the UK in 2009 and lived in the Normanton area. Her family lost contact with her in August 2010, and despite their efforts to trace her, Ms Zablocka has never been found. Derbyshire Police launched an investigation into her disappearance after receiving a missing persons report last week and believe she is dead but said no remains had been found. Forensic teams and officers have been searching an address in Princes Street as part of the investigation and will remain there for the "coming days". Two women, aged 39, and a man, aged 41, were arrested on suspicion of murder, but on Wednesday the force said they had been released on bail pending further inquiries. Supt Becky Webster said: "Due to information we received recently, we believe Izabela is dead, however we have not yet found her remains. "I understand that this will cause concern amongst the community, not least due to the time passed since Izabela's disappearance. "We believe the answers around her disappearance are in the community - people will have known her, people will have worked with her and people will have socialised with her. "No matter how insignificant you think it is, please come forward and speak to us or CrimeStoppers. "You may hold the key to bringing answers to Izabela's family."
