Litres of suspected THC worth £2.5m seized in raid
About £2.5m worth of a suspected class B drug, used in liquid form to produce illegal e-cigarettes and vapes, has been seized by police at a home in Greater Manchester. The region's police force discovered five containers of a total of 25 litres of suspected pure THC during the raid in Elm Way, Oldham on Tuesday. Officers also found £150,000 in cash, a Sur-ron motorcycle, and other luxury items. Three adults and a teenager have been arrested on suspicion of drug production and supply, and possession of criminal property, a Greater Manchester Police spokesman said. All three have been released on bail, he added. Officers said they discovered a "professional setup" at the property, with a large number of cigarettes and vapes for wholesale and bulk supply after community-led intelligence. Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is a cannabis derivative and a class B controlled drug which is illegal to produce, distribute and possess. Police said the raid followed "community-led intelligence around the illegal production and supply of THC e-cigarettes and vapes across Greater Manchester". It included reports of vapes supplied to children, who reportedly became unwell after using them. Sgt Tom Layton of Greater Manchester Police said: "We're particularly pleased to have been able to seize such a high value of assets from the property. "But most importantly put a stop to the illegal sale and supply of illicit products which can cause harm in our communities." The raid occurred before a nationwide ban on the sale and supply of single-use vapes comes into force on Sunday. Drug-fuelled driver who caused girl's death jailed
A van driver who took at least 20 lines of cocaine before crashing into a tram, then hitting and killing a three-year-old girl with his vehicle, has been jailed. Louisa Palmisano, from Burnley - known as Lulu - was hit by a van while walking with her parents on Mosely Street in Manchester city centre on 22 February, and later died in hospital. Rawal Rehman, who initially fled the scene before being arrested the next day, had binged on the cocaine and visited two massage parlours in the city on the morning of the crash. The 36-year-old, of Lambton Road, Manchester, was sentenced to 12 years in jail at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving. Rehman had ignored stop signs when he careered straight into the tram, causing his van to mount the pavement and hit the victim, at about 10:00 GMT on 22 February, the court heard. He ran away from the crash, after flagging down a taxi, and was arrested a day later following a manhunt by police. Lulu's family said they had been on a family trip to Manchester before the "unimaginable tragedy" had occurred. They said Rehman's sentence "brought a measure of legal closure, but nothing can fill the void left by her absence". CCTV of the incident was played to the court, showing the family walking along the pavement, with Lulu between her parents, holding their hands. After the crash, Rehman, with his hood up, got out of the van and walked around the vehicle, before retrieving his phone and leaving in search of a taxi. The court heard he had a number of previous convictions, including being jailed in 2017 for three years for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, after he torched a car involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision which killed a 25-year-old man, in Chorlton, Manchester. David Toal, appearing for the defence, said his client had admitted to things for which the prosecution had no evidence, which demonstrated he had taken responsibility for his actions, stating Rehman had planned to hand himself in to the police before his arrest. He said: "An aggravating factor is that he left the scene - there is no excuse for this. "His explanation is that he panicked, and that panic turned into shock when he learned, via social media, that a young girl had lost her life." The child's parents said Lulu was their only child and "the centre of our world". "Her joyful spirit, vivid imagination, and kind heart touched everyone who knew her. "At just three years old, she brought more light and love than we ever thought possible. "Her life was full of promise, and her loss is something we will carry with us for the rest of our lives." Three more held after 'gun pointed at police'
A further three people have been arrested after a gun was allegedly pointed at a police officer's face. The incident unfolded when officers approached a group seen riding e-bikes dangerously on Great Clowes Street, Salford, at about 12:00 BST on Tuesday. When they went to arrest one member of the group, another aimed a "suspected firearm" in an officer's face before fleeing. A 32-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night in the Whalley Range area of Manchester on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. Two women, aged aged 56 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of assisting him and a gun believed to have been used in the incident was also recovered, Greater Manchester Police said. It comes after two men, aged 20 and 21, were arrested shortly after the incident, which saw one police officer using a Taser and calling for support. Det Supt Simon Moyles said: "This was a frightening and totally unacceptable incident that occurred in broad daylight." Witnesses or anyone with information has been urged to contact police.
