Manchester rapist targeted drunken men and woman on nights out
A man who pursued and raped two drunken men and a woman on nights out before stealing their mobile phones and credit cards has been Ali Djelid targeted his victims in Manchester's China Town and Canal Street areasThe 39-year-old, of Gatcombe Square, Manchester, was convicted of five counts of rape in the city centre following a five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court. Djelid, who initially gave a false name to police and the courts, will be sentenced on 6 October. A Crown Prosecution Service spokeswoman said the case began with Djelid first appearing as Mourad Malki, 38, which was the name he gave the police and the name used in several court hearings. She added: "It seems at some stage during proceedings; the court determined his true identity."Greater Manchester Police said in the first of his three rapes CCTV footage showed Djelid leading a female victim down a "secluded back street" near China Town before raping her and stealing her phone early on 18 February phone was tracked to Cheetham Hill, very close to his home at the raped his second victim, who was visiting Manchester for work, four months later on 12 spoke to the man outside a bar on Canal Street before walking him to a remote area near Richmond Street, raping him and stealing his phone, his watch and a necklace. 'Good Samaritan' A final attack saw him raping and robbing a tourist on 18 said Djelid offered to help the man back to his hotel and acted as a "concerned Good Samaritan but his intentions were anything but sincere".He led the victim to a secluded area near Jutland Street before assaulting him and stealing his mobile phone and then used a stolen bank card at a service station in Cheetham Hill before attempting to make a further transaction which was declined. Rebekah Tomlinson, district crown prosecutor in the north, said Djelid was a serial sex offender who posed a serious danger to men and women carrying out "horrifying crimes in one of the most celebrated and historic nightlife hotspots in the country".She added: "Canal Street holds a special place in the heritage of Manchester and the LGBT community, and those on a night out have the right to enjoy themselves free from the fear of abuse and attack."Det Insp Paul Davies said: "Being drunk is not a crime. Everybody who visits the city centre should feel safe in the knowledge that they can go and enjoy themselves without fear of being attacked."He said what made his "horrific" sexual attacks "particularly heinous" was their "deliberate and premeditated nature" by seeking intoxicated people and posing as an "upstanding member of the public".Djelid previously admitted four counts of theft at an earlier hearing. 'If we're going to sell, it will be at the end of the window'
The Stretford Paddock's Joe Smith spoke to BBC Radio Manchester's The Devils' Advocate podcast about the scope for potential outgoings at Old Trafford: "I think we are going to struggle to sell players, but I also think that if we are going to sell, it will come at the end of the window."If you are a buying club, why would you come in for their outcasts now? [You wouldn't] give United the money they want and allow us to move on and buy players. You would wait until the end of the window when United have to decide between selling at a discounted rate, bringing them back into the team, or having them in exile for a full season."When we get desperate at the end of the window, I imagine there will be more offers for these players. We probably won't get good money for them but we probably will be able to get rid of them towards the end of the window."The only question is if we would then have the time to buy the players we want with the money that we get."Listen to the full episode of The Devils' Advocate on BBC Sounds

'We just got married and we're going straight to see Oasis – it's the best day'
Two Oasis fans certainly made the most of their day as they headed to Heaton Park for the concert just hours after they married one another in Leeds Two Oasis fans decided to head to Heaton Park straight after saying "I do," wearing their wedding outfits. 80,000 fans headed to the local park in Prestwich for the first of Liam and Noel Gallagher's five-night residency in their hometown, marking their first performances in Manchester since 2009. But despite having tickets for the event, one couple decided to add an extra touch to their day and got married just hours before heading to Manchester. Kim and Gareth Gladman secured tickets last year, thanks to Gareth's dad, who waited in the agonising online virtual queues. The couple said getting tickets would be the best day of their lives, but after a cheeky comment from Kim, their day got off to an even better start. Despite the scorching temperatures, with the weather reaching 30 degrees, Kim and Gareth decided to head straight from Leeds to Heaton Park in their wedding clothing. "I had thought about getting changed but I really like what I've got on," Kim said, before adding: "I thought what's the point so I'm just going to keep it on - if it gets mucky, it gets mucky, I'm not going to wear it again." Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Gareth said: "It's been part of my life forever, so this couldn't be any more perfect today - get married and see them live. Brilliant." For their big day, Kim, who is a dressmaker, designed a special denim jacket with lyrics from the Oasis hit, Live Forever, on the back. Ahead of their wedding, Gareth told the Manchester Evening News: "When I first met Kim, the very first conversation we had was about how, if Oasis ever stopped messing around and actually got back together, it wouldn't matter what it cost or where in the world it was, we had to get tickets. Oasis: What's Their Story? An unofficial celebration magazine on sale now! A few simple words on social media on August 27 in 2024 were enough to spark pandemonium among Oasis fans and were the catalyst for the most eagerly awaited UK gigs of all time. This special unofficial magazine, available to order here, marks the reunion and honours the band both now and down the years with our incredible archive of photos and interviews - and with exclusive reviews and photographs of their first show! "I was too young and didn't have the money to see them the first time around. So when they made the announcement back in August 2024 that they were reuniting, we knew it was important. We were lucky to even get tickets during the impossible Ticketmaster scramble. "A few weeks later, as we were getting ready for work one morning, Kim casually said, 'Wouldn't it be funny if we got married before we went to Manchester?' Just like that, off the cuff, but it stuck." The couple instantly saw that their local registry office had the perfect date, which was free – July 12, the day of their Oasis gig. Gareth commented: "I booked it straight away, walked downstairs and I told Kim, 'check your e-mail, we're getting married.'" The pair will be joined by 80,000 Oasis fans at tonight's Heaton Park. But it's not just Kim and Gareth who are feeling the love at the Oasis gigs. On Friday, one couple got engaged mid-concert, leaving everybody around them overcome with emotion. While Noel and Liam belted out Slide Away, one man got down on one knee, leaving his now fiancée in a state of disbelief as he presented a ring to his partner. The couple were both seen wearing blue Oasis t-shirts in the video, appeared to then kiss before hugging. Other fans are seen celebrating, including cheering and clapping, whilst surrounding the pair after the proposal last night. After the adorable moment was shared on social media, one fan said: "She definitely maybe said YES!!!! Congrats guys." Another responded to the video: "This is how much brings people together and makes memories last forever." viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused.
