Packaged drinking water bottles with fake ISI mark seized
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Madurai Branch, has seized around 17,500 packaged drinking water bottles of different capacities bearing fake ISI mark from a packaged drinking water company at Pampapadaiyur in Kumbakonam taluk, Thanjavur district, on June 25.
According to a Press Information Bureau release, the search and seizure operation was conducted at a packaged drinking water company at Pampapadaiyur where the packaged drinking water bottles bearing different brand names were produced without a valid BIS Certification Marks Licence. Around 3.8 lakh labels containing spurious ISI Mark were seized.
According to Section 17 read in conjunction with Section 29 of BIS Act 2016, action would be taken to file a criminal complaint against the unit.
BIS has appealed to the consumers to use BIS Care App to verify the authenticity of ISI marked products before its purchase. BIS conducts and seizure operations based on information of misuse of the BIS Standard marks on any products received through email or letter or BIS CARE application. The identity of complainants would be kept confidential, the release added.
