Public transport to operate as usual tomorrow, says Loke
Transport minister Loke Siew Fook encouraged rally participants tomorrow to use public transport in order to minimise traffic congestion in Kuala Lumpur. PETALING JAYA : Transport minister Loke Siew Fook says he has ordered all public transport, including Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd's train stations, to operate as usual tomorrow. In a Facebook post, he said the Madani government 'defends freedom of assembly, including for those not aligned with the government'. 'We cannot return to the times when democracy was oppressed to the point that Parliament was shut down. 'More importantly, our public transport must continue to function so that the majority can carry out their weekend activities without being disturbed by the opposition's rally. 'I encourage all rally participants tomorrow to use public transport so that traffic congestion in the capital city can be minimised,' he said. A mass rally organised by Perikatan Nasional is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Earlier today, KTMB denied issuing orders for the closure of its Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Kuala Lumpur stations, after a notice made the rounds on social media. When a netizen asked about the notice in the comment section of one of KTMB's Facebook posts, the firm said there had been no official announcement from the management. The notice said that the BNM and Kuala Lumpur KTM stations would be closed from 9am to 5pm tomorrow.

Short-term Interbank Rates Close Steady On BNM Operations
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 (Bernama) -- Short-term interbank rates ended steady today following Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) operations to absorb surplus liquidity from the financial system. Liquidity in the conventional system rose to RM17.0 billion from RM16.96 billion this morning, while liquidity in Islamic funds increased to RM30.4 billion from RM24.85 billion previously. Earlier, the central bank conducted a reverse repo tender and an overnight reverse repo tender. It also announced the availability of reverse repo, sell-and-buy-back agreements, and collateralised commodity murabahah facilities with tenures of one week, one month, and three months. BNM also revised the murabahah overnight tender from RM24.9 billion to RM30.4 billion. At 4 pm, BNM called for a RM17.0 billion conventional money market tender and a RM30.4 billion murabahah money market tender, both with three-day maturities. The Malaysia Islamic Overnight Rate (MYOR-i) stood at 2.75 per cent as of July 24, 2025. -- BERNAMA

When a netizen asked about the notice in the comment section of one of KTMB's Facebook posts, the firm said there had been no official announcement from the management. 'Updates will be shared from time to time through KTMB's official media channels,' the KTMB Facebook admin replied. The notice said that the BNM and Kuala Lumpur KTM stations would be closed from 9am to 5pm tomorrow. 'The KTM train will not stop at these stations during the closure period,' the notice said. A mass rally organised by Perikatan Nasional is expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow, to call for the resignation of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Participants will gather at Masjid Negara, Pasar Seni, Masjid Jamek Sultan Abdul Samad, Masjid Jamek Kampung Baru and the Sogo shopping complex before marching to Dataran Merdeka. Organisers expect up to 300,000 participants, although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300 people. Police have advised rallygoers to obey the law and assemble peacefully. Yesterday, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said no roads would be closed in the capital city ahead of the 'Turun Anwar' rally.

No stations closed tomorrow, says KTMB refuting message circulating on social media
IPOH: Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has refuted that its Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Kuala Lumpur stations will be closed Saturday (July 26), following an alleged notice circulating on social media. In response to a query by a user on its official Facebook page comment section Frida (July 25), the KTMB admin responded that there had been no official announcement from the management. 'At the moment, there has been no official notification from the management regarding this matter. "Any latest updates will be shared from time to time through KTMB's official media channels,' the response read. The alleged notice said that the BNM and Kuala Lumpur KTM stations would be closed from 9am to 5pm Saturday. The notice also said that trains would not stop at these stations during the closure period. The circulation of the notice comes ahead a mass rally expected to take place in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. Earlier, acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Usuf Jan Mohamad said no roads would be closed in the capital city ahead of the 'Turun Anwar' rally. More than 2,000 police officers and personnel will be stationed at all key gathering points, including Sogo shopping mall, Masjid Jamek, Masjid Negara and Pasar Seni, from 11am. The rally is anticipated to draw 15,000 participants and is expected to march to Dataran Merdeka at 2pm. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail previously said the police would facilitate the rally following a Federal Court ruling on July 1 that struck down Section 9(5) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 as unconstitutional, meaning organisers are no longer legally required to notify authorities in advance.
