43-year-old loses Rs 70 lakh in online trading scam
Hyderabad: A 43-year-old private employee from Alwal lost over 70 lakh to cyber fraudsters in a fake online stock trading scam. According to police officials, the victim was lured through WhatsApp by individuals claiming to represent Zerodha, a legitimate trading platform. The fraudsters, identifying themselves as Hanan Delvi and Ishita Paul, convinced the victim to install what they claimed was a 'Zerodha' trading app through a web link. Between April 30 and May 26, the victim transferred 72.55 lakh to various bank accounts provided by the fraudsters. To gain his trust, the fraudsters initially returned 1.73 lakh as 'profits' on May 14. When he later requested to withdraw 15 lakh, they claimed his account accumulated profits of 2.19 crore and demanded 43.93 lakh as a 'tax payment' for the release of funds. Alarmed by the demand for a huge tax, the victim visited the legitimate Zerodha office in Begumpet and realised that both the app and his trading account were fake. He immediately reported the incident to cyber crime authorities through the 1930 helpline and lodged a complaint with Cyberabad cyber crime sleuths. Based on his complaint, a case was registered at Cyberabad Cyber Crime PS under sections 318(4) (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 319(2) (cheating by personation), 336(3) (forgery for purpose of cheating), 338 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 340(2) (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record), r/w 3(5) (common intention) of the BNS, and section 66-D of the IT Act on Friday.

NIA Raids 15 Locations Across 8 States In Pakistan-Linked Espionage Case
Last Updated: Initial findings suggest that the individuals under investigation had acted as financial intermediaries and had direct or indirect connections with operatives working for Pakistan. In a significant counterintelligence operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted searches at 15 locations across eight states in connection with an espionage case involving Pakistani intelligence operatives. The raids took place in Delhi, Maharashtra (including Mumbai), Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal. The operation targeted people suspected of having links to Pakistan-based intelligence agents. During the searches, NIA teams recovered a range of digital devices, sensitive financial records, and other incriminating evidence. These materials are currently being analysed for information that could further expose a suspected espionage network orchestrated from across the border. Initial findings suggest that the individuals under investigation had acted as financial intermediaries and had direct or indirect connections with operatives working for Pakistani intelligence. These suspects allegedly facilitated the flow of sensitive information in exchange for money, thus posing a threat to national security. The case—registered as RC-12/2025/NIA/DLI—was initiated by the NIA on May 20, following the arrest of an individual accused of leaking classified national security data to Pakistani operatives since 2023. Investigations revealed that the accused had received funds through multiple domestic channels for his involvement in the information leak. The case is being probed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967. The NIA has stated that its investigations are ongoing, and more arrests and searches may follow as the agency works to dismantle the espionage network. First Published: May 31, 2025, 23:55 IST

In 2016, Chavan had crossed the Line of Control and remained in Pakistani custody for four months. His subsequent conduct, deemed unsuitable for a serviceman, led to his dismissal from the armed forces. A junior commissioned officer stationed in Nashik lodged the complaint, citing Chavan's YouTube videos containing incorrect and misleading information aimed at inciting mutiny. Despite his dismissal, Chavan continues wearing govt uniform. The complainant referenced specific videos where Chavan makes unfounded accusations against military officers and discourages the youth from joining defence services. Authorities said Chavan has been spotted in various cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, and Lucknow, wearing military-style attire with a banner while begging on the streets, allegedly spreading misinformation to gain public sympathy. Senior inspector Jayant Shirsath, of the Deolali Camp police station, confirmed that efforts are on to locate and apprehend the accused in connection with the registered case.
