The Kingdom of Bahrain has been chosen to chair the Committee responsible for drafting the Arab Space Strategic Plan, following a decision made at the 11th meeting of the Arab Space Cooperation Group, held in Egypt. This appointment reflects Bahrain’s expanding leadership in the regional space sector and its demonstrated strengths in strategic planning and international collaboration. Rasha Al Amad, Chief of Strategic Planning at the Bahrain Space Agency (BSA), has been appointed to lead the Committee, which comprises representatives from eight Arab space agencies. Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, CEO of Bahrain Space Agency, welcomed the appointment as recognition of BSA’s regional leadership and expertise. He emphasised the importance of collaboration among Arab space agencies to craft a strategic roadmap that reflects shared ambitions and responds to evolving global trends. Once the strategy is ratified, the Committee will oversee its rollout, track performance using clear indicators, evaluate progress, and issue periodic reports to ensure continuous improvement and adaptability to changing regional and international conditions. This leadership role builds on Bahrain’s experience in shaping national space policy and regulatory frameworks, further establishing the Bahrain Space Agency as a key regional player in space governance and strategic development.

Nashik city police to soon get two new forensic vans

Nashik: The Nashik city and rural police will soon receive forensic vans to improve evidence collection at crime scenes involving offences punishable by seven years or more. Senior officers from both city and rural police have confirmed that each police division will get one forensic van. These vehicles will enable forensic experts from the directorate of forensic science laboratory to reach crime scenes and gather crucial evidence. In Dec 2023, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) replaced the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and Indian Evidence Act, respectively. The introduction of these new criminal laws has significantly changed policing practices. Previously, in serious cases such as murder, the police conducted the panchanama (crime scene documentation) with assistance from forensic experts. Now, under section 23 of the BSA, a four-minute videography of the crime scene panchanama must be recorded and uploaded to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) directly from the scene. In case there is a network issue at the crime spot, the officer at the crime spot can make a note of the same and upload the video from the police station. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo Hence, the need for forensic vans is felt in the city as well as in the rural area. Currently, there is one forensic van with the city police and two with the rural police that are insufficient. In view of this, the forensic vans are being provided by the govt, which will enable swift panchanama and related legal procedures. DCP (HQ) Chandrakant Khandvi said the city police commissionerate would receive new forensic vans soon, which will be of great utility considering the city's expanding expanse.

Witness protection scheme implemented: Saha

1 2 Agartala: CM Manik Saha on Sunday announced that the state govt has implemented a witness protection scheme to ensure the safety and cooperation of witnesses, a critical aspect in the delivery of justice, reports Biswendu Bhattacharjee. Addressing a workshop of three criminal laws here Saha said the initiative is part of the state's commitment to effectively implement the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which came into force from July 1, 2024. "These laws are a testament to the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah . They reflect a shift from colonial-era frameworks towards a justice-driven, technology-enabled system that is citizen-centric, victim-friendly and time-bound," he said. He noted that new offences such as terrorism, mob lynching, and organised crime have been incorporated, which were previously missing from the legal framework. Moreover, the new laws provide stricter penalties for crimes against women and children, ensuring faster and more transparent justice. Recalling a meeting chaired by Shah in Guwahati on March 16, 2025, the CM said discussions were held with all northeastern states to monitor the preparedness for implementing these laws.

Tripura CM Manik Saha bats for better implementation of new criminal laws, hopes it will push up conviction rate

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha Sunday described the three new criminal laws – Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – as victim-friendly. He expressed hope that the better implementation of these three laws would push up the conviction rate in the state. 'We have seen that these are friendly Acts. To implement criminal laws, the stakeholders are required to work in coordination and benefit the common people. I urge you all to cooperate with each other,' CM Saha said while addressing a workshop on 'New Criminal Laws and NDPS Act' held for legal practitioners, the police, and administrative officers at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala. 'I think this workshop is a step in this direction. Awareness is very important. People don't know about that. But every person should know these laws, and for this, I think, awareness campaigns should be done vigorously,' he added. 'These laws reflect a victim-friendly, technology-driven, and time-bound approach to justice delivery… The FIR (First Information Report) can be filed from anywhere, any part of the country, or across the state without being physically present in the police station and irrespective of the jurisdiction. The victims are entitled to have a free copy of their FIRs. Victims are to be informed about the status of their cases every 90 days…' said CM Saha.

SC to hear suo motu case on probe agencies summoning advocates for legal advice

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear on July 21 a suo motu case over the issue of probe agencies summoning advocates who offer legal opinions or represent parties during the investigation of cases. The matter is slated to come up for hearing before a bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justices K Vinod Chandran and N V Anjaria. The case comes in the wake of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoning senior lawyers Arvind Datar and Pratap Venugopal. However, on June 20, the ED said it has directed its investigating officers not to issue summons to any advocate in money laundering investigations being carried out against their clients, adding that an exception to this rule can only be made after "approval" by the agency's director. The statement from the federal probe agency came in the wake of the lawyer-client privilege-linked controversy that erupted after the ED issued summons to the two advocates for giving legal advice to Care Health Insurance Limited on the employee stock ownership plan given to Rashmi Saluja, former chairperson of Religare Enterprises. The ED, tasked with combating money laundering crimes, issued a circular for guidance of its field formations, stating that "no summons" should be issued to any advocate in violation of Section 132 of the Bhartiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), 2023. "Further, if any summons needs to be issued under the exceptions carved out in proviso to Section 132 of the BSA, 2023, the same shall be issued only with the prior approval of the director, ED," the agency said. The summons issued to these advocates was condemned by the Supreme Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association, calling it a "disturbing trend" that struck at the very foundations of the legal profession.
