Here's What 19 People Who Make Over $100K Do For A Living

Recently, I asked members of the BuzzFeed Community who make over $100K what they did and what kind of experience they had. I honestly loved the transparency from them, so here are 19 salaries from 19 different professions. "Bookkeeper – $120K, no degree. Just 12 years working my way from admin assistant, learning on the job, and progressing with the same company." "International school teacher in China – $159,000. 10+ years, Bachelor's in Education degree." "College professor – $120K. I got my BS and MS, did a year-long (unpaid) internship, and passed the credentialing exam. I worked a few other jobs, then moved into academia, where I've been for 11 years." "Clinical Director of a healthcare agency. I've been a Registered Nurse for 15 years and in leadership for five years. I have a BSN degree. Basically, it took 10 years of bedside nursing, two years of moving up the ranks, and two raises to be over $100K/year, and I barely am. People think nurses make a ton of money, and we really don't, especially in FL. "Nurse anesthetist – $216,000." "Creative Director – $165K. I've been in advertising for 12 years. No undergrad, but I went to a certificate program for graphic design for two years. It's a great career option for someone who is artistic or creative and doesn't want a super corporate job." "Project Manager – $140K. Concrete construction, no education, accepted challenges as they presented themselves." "Nurse practitioner for hospital medicine. Salary currently is $121,800 in a very HCOL area. I graduated from nursing school in 2010 and spent years at the bedside before starting my master's degree, which was a prolonged pursuit for various life reasons. I have been a practicing NP since 2020. I completed an advanced practice fellowship to expand my knowledge base and hone my clinical skills. I would do it again, but it was a massive pay cut ($40K) after already practicing. I've been with my division since 2022, and I've steadily made about an $8K increase every year after a significant pay increase after completing the fellowship. I work in academic medicine, so pay will always be less but my quality of life (I roll PTO into my schedule so every month I have at least seven days, sometimes more, off in a row while still being able to plan for vacation and get approved time off), access to ongoing education, benefits, and retirement are all top tier." "Architect – $135,000. Been working in the biz for 40 years. Five years of undergrad to get a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, one year to get a master's. Three years of internship, and an architectural license in New York (a week-long series of exams). I moved to California and had to take a supplemental exam to get licensed there." "Retired Army Officer. My pension, disability, and social security put me over $100K. I served 22 years, have three degrees, and traveled the world. After the army, I worked in heavy industry for 20 years, and now I work for myself. I own a small business and choose my own schedule." "I'm an Industrial Safety Professional. I've been doing it for about 10 years in various industrial settings (mining, oil, gas, and power generation). The pay is roughly $110K starting and goes up from there, depending on the company you're working for. It's pretty light work as long as you don't mind the public speaking/meeting leader aspect. Incident investigations can be rough and stressful, though. No formal schooling for the role, just sort of fell into it. Lots of colleges offer industrial hygiene or occupational health degrees that would be beneficial in the role." "I'm a travel physical therapist making between $100K–$120K for a two-year contract. I work for a company with over 600 outpatient clinics, and they have a high turnover with plenty of new grads, but the pay is some of the best in my field. I have a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, and this is my first job post-grad school." "I work at a large university as the director of a medium-sized program and make $106,000. I have a bachelor's, a master's, and am working on my doctorate. I have worked in higher education for over 15 years. I didn't make good money until accepting this position three years ago. The first 12 years were rough and I paid my dues. Working in higher education has changed so much; I wouldn't recommend it anymore." "Scrap crane operator for a steel mill, have been operating the crane for about two years now, but have been working in steel mills for seven. Last year grossed $110K, and that's with a GED." "VP, Legal – $199K with a 25% bonus target, which has been paid out over 100% for the past two years. I'm the sole in-house counsel of a software company, so their de facto general counsel. I've been with this company for four years. Prior to becoming in-house counsel (and getting promoted to VP) I worked in contracts management positions for a variety of larger corporations right out of law school. Definitely a different path to becoming in-house counsel since most do at least one stint at a law firm, but I figured it out without ever having to suffer through billable hours!" "RN, $150,000+. Worked my way through the ranks. I started as a phlebotomist drawing blood, then a medical assistant, then a CNA, then an LPN, and have been an RN for 34 years. I have a BSN and two national specialty certifications in wound care and ostomy care, which is a very niche market as not too many RNs have them." "Tattoo Artist, $180K, 9 years experience. Was previously a cook." "Nurse manager, $150,000/year, 10 years experience, master's degree." "Clinical Research Manager in mental health – $102,000. Got a master's in 2016 and slowly worked my way up from a research assistant." Are you willing to share how much you make and what you do? No more 80km trips: New ATM eases banking woes for Lojing's Orang Asli community

GUA MUSANG: More than 3,000 Orang Asli residents from several settlements in the Lojing Highlands no longer need to travel approximately 80km to access an automated teller machine (ATM), following the installation of the facility at the Lojing Highlands Rest and Service (R&R) area yesterday. A resident, Sani Alang, 45, said they previously had to travel to Gua Musang town at least once a month just to withdraw cash from an ATM. He said the new ATM service had brought great relief to the community, easing the long-standing hardship of having to make long trips for basic banking transactions. "Previously, I had to spend almost RM50 on fuel and travel around 80km to town just to withdraw money. Now, not anymore," he said. "However, we hope that a cash deposit machine (CDM) can also be made available in the future for the convenience of residents." Meanwhile, Galas assemblyman Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said the facility benefits not only the Orang Asli community in Lojing but also tourists and road users travelling between Gua Musang, Lojing, and Cameron Highlands in Pahang. He said this was the first ATM installed in the Lojing sub-district. "This long-awaited Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) ATM has finally been installed and is now operational at the Lojing R&R. "We are grateful to BSN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Awang Adek Hussin for the approval, and to the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister's Department for funding the building through the Galas assemblyman's service centre," he said. "We have opened access and provided the necessary facilities for the people in remote areas," he added.

Three cops claim trial to accepting RM20,000 in bribes

IPOH: Three police officers were charged in the Sessions Court here today with two counts of accepting RM20,000 in bribes. The accused, Lance Corporal Ahmad Rabani Rusnizal, 29; Lance Corporal Mohamad Shukre Mohamed Rowi, 37; and former Corporal Wan Mohd Nor Imran Wan Seman, 35, pleaded not guilty before Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi to both charges read jointly in court. According to the first charge, the three, who were serving at the Merbok Police Station in Kedah at the time of the offence, were accused of jointly and corruptly receiving a RM10,000 bribe. The payment was transferred from an AM Bank Islamic account belonging to Azizi Norhafizi Abu Bakar into a BSN bank account owned by Ahmad Rabani. The bribe was allegedly given as an inducement for the accused not to take action against Azizi for possessing methamphetamine, an offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. The act was said to have occurred at BSN-CPI Kamunting, in the Larut, Matang & Selama district, around 3am on July 24, 2023. For the second charge, all three accused were again alleged to have jointly and corruptly received another RM10,000 bribe — also transferred from Azizi's AM Bank Islamic account to Ahmad Rabani's BSN account. The inducement was for the same reason as the first charge, for not taking action against Azizi for methamphetamine possession, which is an offence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. This second offence allegedly took place at the same location (BSN-CPI Kamunting) at around 3am on the following day, July 25, 2023. If convicted, the offence under both charges carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, for each charge. The prosecution was led by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecuting officer, Mohd Zulfadli Azharudin, while all three accused were represented by lawyer Siti Salwa Ja'afar. Zulfadli proposed bail of RM10,000 with one surety for each accused, along with an additional condition that they report to the MACC office in Sungai Petani, Kedah, on the first Sunday of every month until the case concludes. However, Siti Salwa requested a lower bail amount, citing the accused's monthly income of around RM1,700 and family obligations, including the fact that Wan Mohd Nor Imran is now working as a lorry driver after leaving the police force. The judge granted bail at RM5,000 each and allowed the additional condition requested by the prosecution. He also set June 26 as the next mention date for document submission. All the accused posted bail.

RTD Retiree Gets Life-Changing Windfall As 111th BSN SSP Millionaire

Published : 20/05/2025 11:23 PM SEREMBAN, May 20 (Bernama) -- A retired civil servant was left stunned after winning RM1 million through Bank Simpanan Nasional's Premium Savings Certificate (BSN SSP) Jutawan programme, a life-changing windfall she never saw coming. Azizah Kamarudin, 65, from Negeri Sembilan, became the 111th winner from the state to receive the grand prize. She began saving with BSN SSP in 1990 with just RM10 and remained consistent over the years for the sake of her family's future. The former Road Transport Department officer said she was informed of her win by a BSN representative via phone on May 5 and later verified it at the BSN branch in Senawang. 'Before the call, I had seen the winner announcement on BSN's Facebook page. I noticed a name that matched mine. 'I thought it must be someone else with the same name. But deep down, I hoped it was me,' she told reporters today after receiving a replica cheque for the prize at her home in Seremban Jaya. It was presented by BSN Negeri Sembilan's chief of Deposit Management, Mohd Ruzaini Mohd Sani, and deputy president of Public Relations and Communications, Christina Geeta Thomas. The mother of three said she plans to use the winnings to perform umrah with her husband, Baharuddin Md Yusof, 67, during Ramadan next year and save the rest. 'Alhamdulillah, I am grateful for all these blessings. This year, my husband, children and I received the offer to perform hajj together, which was unexpected. Since we performed hajj in 2018, we chose to postpone this time to give way to our children and to care for our grandchildren,' she said. Azizah added that the BSN SSP savings scheme is an ideal long-term investment, as it not only encourages saving but also offers the chance to win substantial prizes. -- BERNAMA BERNAMA provides up-to-date authentic and comprehensive news and information which are disseminated via BERNAMA Wires; BERNAMA TV on Astro 502, unifi TV 631 and MYTV 121 channels and BERNAMA Radio on FM93.9 (Klang Valley), FM107.5 (Johor Bahru), FM107.9 (Kota Kinabalu) and FM100.9 (Kuching) frequencies.
