Iran says it will not give up its uranium enrichment programme
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday that Iran will not give up its independent uranium enrichment programme under any circumstances, even if a regional nuclear consortium is established. "The crucial point is that a consortium is not an alternative and cannot replace uranium enrichment in the country," Esmaeil Baghaei said, according to the Tasnim news agency. He declined to comment on whether this demand was included in the latest proposal made by the United States to Iran. Unconfirmed reports suggest the US demanded a complete halt to Iranian uranium enrichment in a written proposal to Tehran. In return, Washington is said to have offered the country the civilian use of nuclear technology, including uranium enrichment, within the framework of a regional consortium under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Baghaei said that Iran will give an appropriate response to the US proposal in due course. Until then, the country will insist on both its own uranium enrichment and the lifting of US sanctions in the next round of negotiations, he said.

The pair has conducted seven weeks of negotiations over the nuclear programme, with the US seeking assurances that it is peaceful, while Iran hopes to escape punishing sanctions that have battered its economy in recent years. However, Tehran is now demanding Washington detail what it is offering, reflecting scepticism voiced earlier this year by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In remarks carried by the official IRNA news agency, Baghaei stressed the need for guarantees regarding the 'real end of the sanctions', including details on 'how and through what mechanism' they would be removed. 'The American side has not yet provided the necessary clarity in this regard,' he also reiterated Iran's intention to continue enriching uranium for 'peaceful' purposes. US envoy Steve Witkoff has said President Donald Trump opposes Tehran continuing any enrichment, calling it a 'red line'. A leaked United Nations report shows that Iran has ramped up production of uranium enriched to 60 percent, short of the roughly 90 percent required for atomic weapons but significantly above the 4 percent or so needed for power production. Baghaei dismissed the report as biased, accusing unnamed Western countries of pressuring the UN to act against Iran's interests. Official sources cited by The New York Times said the recent US proposal includes a call for Iran to end all enrichment. While Tehran has confirmed receipt of the proposal, which the White House described as being in Iran's 'best interest', it has said it is still reviewing the document. 'Receiving a text certainly does not mean accepting it, nor does it even mean that it is acceptable,' Baghaei said. Iran has held five rounds of talks with the US since April 12 in search of a new agreement to replace the deal with the leading powers that Trump abandoned during his first term in 2018.

Iranian FM condemns Zionist aggression on Yemen
Tehran - Saba: The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the new Zionist aggression targeting Sana'a International Airport and the destruction of a Yemenia passenger plane, describing it as "a new indication of the Zionist regime's barbarism and hostility toward the Muslim Yemeni people and the region." In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei described the Zionist regime's aggression during the Hajj season, aimed at preventing Yemeni pilgrims from reaching the holy lands and participating in the Hajj rituals, as a major crime. He called for immediate and serious action by international organizations, especially the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), regarding this situation. The Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed to the Zionist regime's repeated attacks on Yemen's economic infrastructure and civilian facilities, including ports, airports, food warehouses, and the like. He dubbed these attacks as a clear example of war crimes and crimes against humanity. He added that the Zionist regime's brutal aggression toward the Muslim peoples of West Asia is clear evidence of its structural and fundamental disconnection from the peoples of the region, and its leaders' efforts to spread wars and insecurity in the region and the world. Baghaei highlighted the legal and moral responsibility of all countries in the region and the world to confront the Zionist entity's violations of the law and its crimes in occupied Palestine and against other countries in the region. Iran condemns Israeli airstrikes on Sanaa International Airport
Tehran, May 29 (UNI) Iran has strongly condemned Israel's airstrikes on the Sanaa International Airport, said a statement released by the ministry. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei described the attacks as another sign of Israel's "brutality and hostility towards the Muslim peoples of Yemen and the West Asia region," according to the statement on Wednesday night. According to the Al-Masirah TV operated by the Houthi group, Israeli warplanes on Wednesday morning targeted the Sanaa airport's runway and a Yemenia Airlines plane in four strikes, destroying Yemen's last remaining commercial aircraft operated by the airline. Baghaei said Israel's strikes aimed to "prevent the transfer of Yemeni pilgrims to the Saudi Arabian city of Makkah for the imminent Hajj pilgrimage and was a big crime," calling on the international community, especially the International Civil Aviation Organization, to pay immediate and serious attention to the situation. He also condemned Israel's "repeated aggressions" against Yemen's economic infrastructure and civil facilities, including ports, airports and food warehouses, calling the attacks "clear examples of war crimes and crimes against humanity." Baghaei highlighted the legal and moral responsibility of all countries in West Asia and the world for confronting Israel's "law-breaking and crimes" in the occupied Palestinian territories and against other countries in the region. The Houthi group has been conducting attacks against Israeli targets since November 2023 in what it describes as solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The group has stated it would only cease its military operations if Israel ends its military campaign and blockade of Gaza. Israel has responded with several major airstrikes on Yemeni targets.
