'Make My Blouse Tight': Why Hema Malini Made This Request During 'Baghban' Shooting
1/7 After the release of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham (2001), Amitabh Bachchan experienced a string of box office disappointments. 2/7 However, in 2003, his career saw a remarkable resurgence with the film Baghban, co-starring Hema Malini. 3/7 The film, which explored the emotional struggles of ageing parents neglected by their children, struck a chord with audiences. Made on a modest budget of Rs 10 crore, Baghban earned an impressive Rs 43 crore and became the fifth highest-grossing film of the year, according to Wikipedia. 4/7 Despite its later success, Baghban initially struggled to find a distributor. Many believed its story was too dated for contemporary cinema. But once released, the film was met with critical acclaim and commercial triumph. 5/7 The chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini, fondly known as Bollywood's 'dream girl', was a major highlight. Though both actors were well into their 50s and 60s at the time (Amitabh was 61 and Hema 55), their performances were praised for their grace, emotional depth, and timeless charm. 6/7 In a later interview, Renu Chopra, wife of director Ravi Chopra, revealed a unique behind-the-scenes detail. She said that for a romantic scene in which Amitabh Bachchan's character fastens Hema Malini's blouse, the actress made a specific request: 'Keep my blouse a little tight. His touch will help me give the right expression... I need to feel it.' 7/7

'His touch should...': Hema Malini asked Baghban makers for a tightly stitched blouse, wanted Amitabh Bachchan to...
Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini's performance in Baghban left everyone teary-eyed. The pairing was a superhit, and fans loved the two as an on-screen husband and wife. Even before Baghban, the two featured in movies like Veer-Zaara, Sholay, Naseeb, Andhaa Kaanoon, and Baghban were special. The emotion of ageing parents, husband and wife deeply in love but separated due to their kids—this movie felt different. A few months ago, Renuka Chopra, the wife of late director Ravi Chopra, who helmed Baghban, opened up new aspects of the film. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Renuka revealed that Hema made a special request to the Baghban makers. The actress told the makers to get her blouse stitched much tighter than usual. The wife of the late director revealed that in one scene, Amitabh Bachchan had to fasten her blouse, and Hema wanted a specific look on her face. During the conversation, Renuka said, 'There was a scene where she was getting ready, standing in front of a mirror. At that time, Raj comes from behind and, upon seeing her, says, 'Wow.' Hema asked me to stitch her blouse a bit tight so that when Amit ji comes, he can fasten it tightly. She said, 'That touch would give me the look I want'—one that conveyed, 'He's touched me. After so many years of being married, it meant so much.' She is a very romantic person in real life.' In the same conversation, Renuka revealed that Hema was not the first choice for the role of Pooja Malhotra. Initially, the makers wanted to cast Tabu. However, the actress turned down the role, stating that she didn't want to play the mother of four kids at 36. With that, the role was passed to Hema, and the pairing of Hema and Amitabh turned out to be a huge hit.
