Cyprus approves Chevron survey for Aphrodite gas pipeline to Egypt
Basant Ahmed Cyprus has completed licensing procedures for Chevron to begin seabed surveys within Block 12 of the country's exclusive economic zone for a pipeline connecting the Aphrodite gas field to Egyptian infrastructure. The surveys will commence on 4 June and continue until late October 2025, according to information obtained by Phileleftheros. Chevron will conduct the research using the KOBI RUEGG vessel, which specialises in seabed surveys and technical data collection for offshore projects. The Bahamas-flagged vessel is already positioned in the area and will gather technical data for the natural gas pipeline to Egypt. A navigation warning (navtex) will be issued shortly to notify maritime traffic of the survey operations. The development follows reactivation of the Aphrodite consortium's agreement with Cyprus in February, after being frozen since 2019. The partnership includes Chevron Cyprus Limited, NewMed Energy LP, and BG Cyprus Limited. A memorandum of understanding signed in Cairo in February between Cyprus, Egypt, and the Aphrodite consortium established the framework for commercialising the Aphrodite natural gas field through Egyptian infrastructure. The surveys are a step toward developing Cyprus's offshore gas resources, which have remained largely untapped since their discovery. The Aphrodite field contains an estimated 4.1 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves. Chevron's pipeline project aims to transport gas from the Aphrodite field to existing Egyptian liquefaction facilities, providing an export route for Cypriot gas to international markets. The survey operations will gather data on seabed conditions and pipeline routing options for the proposed subsea infrastructure linking Cyprus and Egyptian waters. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Chevron-chartered vessel to complete oil cargo return in Venezuela, data and source say
HOUSTON, April 14 (Reuters) - A vessel chartered by Chevron (CVX.N), opens new tab carrying some 500,000 barrels of Venezuelan oil is about to complete the discharge of the cargo at a Venezuelan port, according to shipping data and a source, following state company PDVSA's order to return the crude amid payment uncertainty related to U.S. sanctions. At least nine tankers Chevron had chartered to carry Venezuelan crude to the U.S. in coming weeks as part of the wind down of its U.S. license through May 27 are now stalled in the Caribbean Sea waiting for directions after PDVSA last week ordered two cargoes to be returned and canceled loading permits to others, cutting the deadline short. The Bahamas-flagged vessel, Carina Voyager, managed by a Chevron unit, on Saturday began discharging at PDVSA's Jose port the cargo it originally intended to export, LSEG shipping data showed. The tanker is scheduled to finish the oil return on Monday, a source close to PDVSA's operations said, adding that a second cargo to be returned by Chevron, on Marshall Islands-flagged tanker Dubai Attraction, will discharge some 300,000 barrels of Boscan heavy crude at PDVSA's Amuay terminal in coming days after the U.S. company completes a port inspection. Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez, who is also the OPEC country's oil minister, on Friday blamed the U.S. measures for the issue, saying they prevented Chevron from paying for the oil. "Because of the economic war initiated by the U.S. government against oil companies, Chevron has returned cargoes of crude to PDVSA," Rodriguez said on social media. "This crude is being sold on international markets." Chevron did not immediately reply to a request for comment. A license issued in 2022 by the U.S. Treasury Department for Chevron to operate in Venezuela was revoked in March by President Donald Trump's administration, granting the May deadline to wind down operations and oil exports. The same deadline was granted to other partners of PDVSA, including Eni ( opens new tab, Repsol ( opens new tab, Maurel & Prom ( opens new tab and Reliance Industries ( opens new tab, to wind down oil cargoes bound for Europe and Asia.
