Two men nabbed in Ipoh with drugs
IPOH: Police arrested two men and seized about RM4,361 worth of drugs at a house in Jalan Sungai Nibong in Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said the two men, aged 35 and 37, were believed to have been involved in distributing drugs like heroin and syabu. ACP Dr Bakri said the arrests were made during an operation at the house, rented by one of the suspects, on Monday (May 19) at about noon. "During the operation, the police also seized 104.17g of heroin, 8g of syabu and 42g of MDMA (ecstasy). "Both suspects confessed to being involved in drug activities since their early 20s," he said in a statement. "The first suspect tested positive for morphine, while the second suspect tested positive for methamphetamine. "Both men also have a total of nine previous drug cases," he added. ACP Dr Bakri said the drugs seized could be used by 308 people. He said the case is being investigated under Section 39B, Section 39A(1), Section 12(2) and Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act. "Those found guilty could face the death sentence or lifetime imprisonment and be whipped at least 12 times," he said. "The police would like to remind the people not to be involved with drug distribution or abuse," he added.

Man who caused FRU crash tragedy is being investigated
Court day: The lorry driver involved in the crash (centre) has been remanded for four days. - Bernama TELUK INTAN: The lorry driver involved in the crash that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel on Tuesday has been remanded for four days from yesterday. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Bakri Zainal Abidin said the remand order against the 45-year-old man was issued by Magistrate Naidatul Athirah Azman. The man is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death through reckless or dangerous driving. If convicted, he faces a minimum imprisonment of two years and a maximum of 10 years, along with a fine of up to RM50,000. Additionally, he will be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a minimum of five years. ACP Bakri also said the police will record statements from more than 60 individuals to assist in the investigation into the accident. He said his department would call FRU members who witnessed the accident and the owner of the lorry company. 'This is to avoid a biased investigation. 'I also urge the public to come forward to provide information. 'We will look at it from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle as well as environmental issues,' he said when approached by reporters after the remand application for the lorry driver in the Magistrate's Court here yesterday, Bernama reported. Meanwhile, DCP Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in the Intensive Care Unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh due to internal bleeding with head and abdominal injuries. He added that eight more FRU personnel are still seeking treatment at the Teluk Intan Hospital. The crash took place at about 8.50am on Tuesday when a truck transporting 18 FRU personnel, who were returning to Ipoh from an assignment in Teluk Intan, was struck by a gravel-laden lorry along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam. Nine FRU personnel were killed in the crash, two were seriously injured and seven others sustained minor injuries.

TELUK INTAN: Police will record statements from more than 60 individuals to assist in the investigation into the accident that claimed the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) members on Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam yesterday morning. Lower Perak police chief ACP Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said his department would call FRU members who were at the scene of the accident as well as the owner of the lorry company to assist in the investigation. 'This is to avoid biased investigations and so on. I also call on the public to come forward to provide information that can assist our investigation. 'We will look at (the investigation) from all angles, namely human negligence, technical issues involving the vehicle as well as environmental issues,' he said when met by reporters after the completion of the remand application for the lorry driver in the Magistrate's Court here today. Meanwhile, Bakri said an FRU member from Unit 5 Ipoh was placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital Ipoh due to internal bleeding with head and abdominal injuries.
