(Video) UK Singer Jessie J Praises M'sian Artist Amsyar Leee; Compares Him To Freddie Mercury
It's not every day that we see one of our local talents take to the international stage and represent the country. Singer Shila Amzah has done so multiple times, having competed in singing competitions in China, most recently in 'Singing With Legends (我们的歌)'. It seems that Amsyar Leee, who first rose to fame for his Siti Nurhaliza impressions on TikTok, is following in her footsteps, giving it his all in the 'Sing! Asia' contest, which also took place in China. Not only did he deliver powerful performances, but he also earned praise from UK superstar Jessie J. Here's what she said about the Malaysian artist: Last week, singer Amsyar Leee announced that he was one of the contestants for the 'Sing! Asia' singing competition on the iQIYI streaming platform. 'It's been an incredible journey sharing the stage with talented artists from all across Asia. Every moment was filled with growth, emotion, and memories I'll carry forever. Thank you to everyone who's been cheering me on from the start,' he wrote in his captions. In the latest episode, the young star performed his rendition of Marsha Milan's 'Cinta'. As shown in the video below, the judges, audience and fellow contestants were blown away by his powerful vocals, especially when he hit the high notes. Shortly after his performance, each judge, including UK singer Jessie J, gave their feedback. The 'Bang Bang' songstress praised the Malaysian artist for his vocals, even comparing his presence to the legendary Freddie Mercury of Queen, stating that they both carry a certain aura. 'I think [your performance] was amazing! I'd love to see you use the stage more—use that power. You have this Freddie Mercury [angel-like aura], and I love Malaysia. Fantastic. I really do think you need to celebrate,' she told Amsyar. And celebrate he did, as it was announced at the end of the episode that the Perak-born performer had been crowned the King of Singers for the show's opening battle, having earned the most votes. Congratulations to Amsyar Leee on his latest achievement! Watch the full episode below, or skip to 27:15 for Jessie J's comments: Source: YouTube

‘Fountain of Youth' movie review: Guy Ritchie's Indiana Jones wannabe is a mealy mouthed bore
It is unbelievable that Guy Ritchie's archaeological heist film, Fountain of Youth, is just over two hours long. It felt way much longer. Starting promisingly in Bangkok, with the Thai version of 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)', and a man with a painting rolled up in a tube being chased by scary people, the movie swiftly dissolved into a muddy, derivative mess. The man with the painting is Luke (John Krasinski) and he is on the hunt for the titular Fountain of Youth for Owen Carver (Domhnall Gleeson), a corporate raider and multi billionaire, who is dying of liver cancer and hopes the Fountain of Youth will give him a fresh lease of life. Fountain of Youth (English) Director: Guy Ritchie Cast: John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, Eiza González, Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Stanley Tucci Runtime: 125 minutes Storyline: A disgraced archaeologist and a dying corporate raider hunt for the Fountain of Youth The Fountain of Youth is protected by a secret society called the Protectors of the Path (see what I mean by a complete lack of imagination?). Luke is trying to find the Fountain of Youth from his father, Harrison's (gosh!) notes. While we do not know if Harrison was an archaeologist, grave robber or treasure hunter; the search for the mythical wellspring was his life's work. If any of this reminds of you of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, then it is surely intended, what with Luke talking in his sleep and all. As Luke flees Bangkok on a posh train, he is accosted by a mysterious woman, Esme (Eiza González) who also tries to take the painting from him but of course he escapes. Then we are in London where Luke's sister, Charlotte (Natalie Portman) is in the middle of a horrid divorce from Harold (Daniel de Bourg) and a custody battle for her 11-year-old son, Thomas (Benjamin Chivers) who is something of a musical prodigy. Charlotte works at a museum and up pops Luke to steal yet another painting (he stole a painting from gangsters in Bangkok, which is why the scary men were after him). We learn that the clue to the path was hidden in the works of six artists including El Greco, Velázquez, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Ruben. There is no The Da Vinci Code-style detour into art history with our favourite symbologist. Also, why anyone would want to hide a path only for it to involve such treasure hunts in anyone's guess. Such secrets ways are best lost in the mists of time. After raising the Lusitania and shooting up the Austrian National Library, the merry band land up in Cairo and blast their way through pyramids that have not been opened for millennia and speed reading hieroglyphics to reach X, which marks the spot. Esme and her boss, the Elder (Stanley Tucci) as well as Inspector Jamal Abbas (Arian Moayed) from the Interpol are hot on their heels. Everything comes crashing down after the good guys have got the prize and the evil villains have earned their just desserts in the true tradition of adventure movies. Ritchie's trademark style of slo-mos, flying coats in a blaze of bullets and bone crunching violence are anaemically present. Fountain of Youth is short on everything — from action and humour to thrills and locations. Fountain of Youth is currently streaming on Apple TV

Fountain of Youth Review: Guy Ritchie spins a flawed yet fun tale of eternal youth
Story: This fantasy adventure follows siblings Luke and Charlotte as they team up for a heist to uncover the mythical Fountain of Youth. Their quest leads them through masterpieces of renowned painters, cryptic clues hidden in musical notes, and a cunning tycoon. Review: Trust Guy Ritchie to kick off a film with the Thai rendition of Nancy Sinatra's 'Bang Bang'—a bold, stylish choice that instantly sets the tone. 'Fountain of Youth' is a wild, globe-trotting adventure, packed with Ritchie's signature quirks—snappy dialogue, dynamic visuals, and offbeat characters. Yes, the plot occasionally stretches logic, and there are moments that ask for a leap of faith, but it succeeds in grabbing your attention. From Thailand to the UK, Austria, and Egypt, the film charts an outrageous hunt for the mythical Fountain of Youth, and while this Indiana Jones knockoff might not win over those searching for perfection, it's an enjoyable watch for anyone open to cinematic mischief. At the heart of the story is Luke (John Krasinski), a charming art thief with a taste for priceless paintings. When Owen Carver (Domnhall Gleeson), a young billionaire suffering from liver cancer, offers to bankroll Luke's next heist—the search for the fabled Fountain of Youth—the proposition is too tempting to decline. The legend promises eternal health, beauty, and vitality. But Luke knows he can't pull it off alone. He reaches out to his estranged sister, Charlotte (Natalie Portman), now a museum curator caught in the middle of a divorce and a custody battle. Their relationship is strained, but her expertise is indispensable. The duo learns that in the 1600s, six master painters—Caravaggio, Rubens, Wildens, Velázquez, El Greco, and Rembrandt—concealed clues to the fountain's location in their works. With Carver's deep pockets funding their globe-spanning mission, the trio embarks on a thrilling race to crack the code. John Krasinski slips into the role of Luke with the ease of a seasoned thief—confident, sharp, and laced with the kind of cheeky swagger that keeps things light even during tense moments. His screen presence is magnetic, and his repartee with Natalie Portman, who plays Charlotte, provides the emotional core of the story. Portman balances intellect and restraint, portraying a woman torn between duty, scepticism, and sibling loyalty. Domhnall Gleeson as Carver deserved more screen time in this film and, as a billionaire puppet master pulling the strings from behind, is cool and calculated. But it's Eiza González who steals scenes as Esme, a fierce protector of the ancient path, blending grace and aggression in her combat sequences. Stanley Tucci makes a brief but impactful appearance as a Vatican elder. The story is built around a ninth-century Tibetan scroll that claims the location of the Fountain was hidden by God and protected over generations by a secret lineage of scholars known as the Protectors of the Path. These guardians are not just spiritual gatekeepers but formidable adversaries who stop at nothing to preserve the secret. While the film borrows elements from 'The Da Vinci Code' and 'Indiana Jones,' Guy Ritchie injects it with his unique flair—humour, chaos, and clever wordplay. The climax, set deep beneath the Egyptian pyramids, is visually breathtaking and masterfully executed with the help of slick CGI. The action is fast-paced, rarely allowing the viewer to lose interest. One of the standout sequences unfolds in Bangkok, where Luke thwarts a gang's attempt to steal a painting—shot with tight choreography and playful tension. At its core, 'Fountain of Youth' is no groundbreaking masterpiece and is a flawed film, but it is undeniably stylish and engaging. It embraces its own absurdity and makes the most of it. The film is smartly packaged—sexy in tone, brisk in pace, and anchored by a sibling dynamic that lends just enough heart. The action at the pyramids dazzles, the banter feels lived-in, and the British aesthetic adds a layer of sophistication. It may not be profound, but it knows exactly what it wants to be. It's a flawed film, no doubt, but it's clever, stylish, and a lot of fun.
