Tayavva is a pivotal film about female infanticide: Geetha
Kannada film Tayavva, which is produced by Amara Films and releasing in theatres today, focuses on female infanticide. 'Devoid of fight or song sequences, it delivers a powerful message: every child, regardless of gender, deserves the right to live,' say the film's makers. The film's trailer was launched recently by Kannada superstar Kiccha Sudeep. Interestingly, Sudeep's very first movie was also titled Tayavva. Bangalore Times speaks to actress Geetha Priya , who will be seen in the lead role, and to Pradeep, of Out Of Syllabus fame, who was also one of the first few people to watch this new film. Read on: In its bid to educate people on the grave impact of female infanticide, I feel the story of this film was chosen very carefully, and handled with utmost care Pradeep THE FILM DRAWS ATTENTION TO THE WISDOM OF SULAGITTIS: GEETHA PRIYA Geetha Priya, who plays a sulagitti (midwife) in the film, suggests that these women have a spiritual connection. 'Beyond their skill and knowledge of Ayurvedic remedies for delivery, they possess a 'sixth sense' about the baby's gender. Delivering a baby is inherently painful; however, women in the past were consistently active with chores. They did not need modern medicine. This kept their bodies agile, facilitating easier births compared to today, when many women spend much of their time in front of a computer and are not accustomed to physical exertion. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Advanced Strategic Management IIMK ASMP Apply Now Undo ' For some, a girl child is seen as an expense, while a boy child brings money. Our film also sheds light on the fact that a child's gender is determined by chromosomes from both parents; it's not solely upto the woman Geetha Priya 'THE FEMALE CHILD SHOULD BE CELEBRATED, NOT SHUNNED' Geetha recounts the joyous celebration that accompanied her own daughter's birth. 'We saw her as our little angel. Unfortunately, that's not the reality in many rural parts of our country. For some, a girl child is seen as an expense. However, a child's gender is determined by chromosomes from both parents; it's not solely the woman's fault.' Pradeep adds, 'Tayavva effectively tackles the misconceptions that surround a girl child being a curse. It delivers the crucial message that all children are valuable, regardless of their gender. I hope this movie leaves a lasting impact and convinces people that female children deserve a chance to live.' I urge all movie lovers to watch this film in theatres during its first three days. That's when it makes the most difference, especially as we fight for screen space. Please don't just wait for it to release on OTT plaforms to watch it Pradeep 'WOMEN ARE CAPABLE OF DOING EVERYTHING MEN CAN' In today's world, men and women excel equally in all aspects of life; nothing is limited by gender. 'The movie delves into the impact of X and Y chromosomes, a concept we learn in high school. While we know the science of it all, truly understanding its implications is the real challenge,' says Pradeep. Geetha adds, 'Women are undefeatable. Be it as a scientist or an athlete, women are excelling in every field. Films offer a powerful medium to educate the audience and impart important messages, which is what we aim to achieve with Tayavva. ' This movie serves as a powerful reminder that opportunities should be for everyone, regardless of gender Geetha Priya Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies . I overcame self-doubt, learnt to accept myself: Meghana Raj Sarja
Meghana Raj Sarja recently shared a picture of herself on social media, which was accompanied by a caption that summed up the actor's personal evolution: 'From self-doubt, accepting and embracing I, me, myself,' she wrote. In a conversation with Bangalore Times, Meghana candidly spoke about how entering the film industry made her acutely aware of the intense scrutiny that women face, how she rebuilt her confidence amidst these pressures, and more. Excerpts: 'JUST WHEN MY CAREER WAS TAKING OFF, I HAD THE WORST BREAKOUTS OF MY LIFE' From believing I was the best to people suddenly pointing out 'flaws' I never even knew existed, showbiz felt different. Before I joined the industry, I had embraced every bit of myself. But the industry told me otherwise: from 'your skin is oily' to 'you're a little chubby' and 'try this for acne,' I got a lot of unsolicited advice. Just when my career was taking off, I had the worst breakouts of my life. And that led to a chapter of self-doubt and insecurity. 'AFTER RAJAHULI, I TRULY CAME INTO MY OWN' Looking back, I think I had the best body during Rajahuli. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo I was full of self-love and began taking care of myself. I remember I was shooting a Malayalam film with VK Prakash and going on set with make-up. He took one look at me and asked me to wash it all off. I had a little acne back then, but VK sir said, 'Meghana, you're beautiful.' That took away some of my self-doubt. 'MOTHERHOOD IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT ITS CHALLENGES STILL REMAIN UNSPOKEN' Motherhood is a beautiful chapter, whose challenges no one really talks about. I went through an emotionally turbulent time, and it didn't just have to do with Chiru's (Chiranjeevi Sarja) demise. The pandemic was at its peak, and my entire family tested positive. There was so much to deal with and yet, some of my closest people including family's first reaction on seeing me was, 'Why have you put on weight?'. Hearing this constantly wears you down. And it's hard to explain why your body changes. Something as simple as choosing clothes would be a battle. Until my friend Anusha picked out that sleeveless dress for me and said, 'You've forgotten that beauty goes beyond your body,' and that one sentence hit hard. 'Women are looked at differently' Growing up, I remember having this unshakeable confidence. I truly believed I was the best. I was a little chubby as a kid, became lean in my school years, but no matter what, I didn't really care because I was comfortable in my skin. It's only when I got into films that I realised how differently the world looks at a woman. 'THE UNSOLICITED ADVICE STILL DOESN'T STOP' People still tell me to do some diet or try a workout routine. Ironically, even my trainer has never called me fat. People love giving advice. But they don't understand. Body shaming is real. And it's cruel. Picking at someone's flaws online shouldn't be normal. The internet doesn't have to be this harsh. Recently, I wore a dress to an event. And then a video of me being shot from an unflattering angle made it online. Especially when I try to stay strong, being caught off guard can shake me. Check out our list of the latest Hindi , English , Tamil , Telugu , Malayalam , and Kannada movies . It's wonderful that Cannes is now more inclusive: Pranitha Subhash
As the Cannes Film Festival draws to a close, Kannada actor Pranitha Subhash shared her joy with Bangalore Times, beaming about her first time at the event. 'When I was in school, seeing Hollywood stars on the iconic Cannes stairs made me wonder how important they must be to get invited,' Pranitha recalled, adding, 'It felt incredible and inaccessible for a girl like me. ' She added that while she's since graced major global events as an actor and entrepreneur, Cannes remained on her wish list — until now. When she found out she'd be attending the festival this year, she was thrilled. 'One of the first events I attended was a panel discussion at the India Pavilion, where I spoke on how India is now a force to be reckoned with on the global stage, especially in entertainment. I was happy that Homebound proved exactly what I was talking about,' she says. 'I'm happy that today the festival has more representation across regions and has become more inclusive. I have attended many panel discussions and given many interviews at Cannes, and I'm glad my dream has come true. Cinema has made it possible for so many talents to come together from various countries, proving that art indeed has no barrier,' says the actor, who will be touring the French Riviera with her husband Nitin Raju before heading home.
