Miley Cyrus' Boyfriend & Dating History

All of us know who Miley Cyrus is. She was the star of Disney Channel's Hannah Montana. She's released banger after banger in her 10 years in the music industry. And her dad is, you know, Billy Ray Cyrus. What's more secretive is Miley Cyrus' dating history, which has been hush-hush since she entered the spotlight more than a decade ago. Most of us know Miley as the longtime girlfriend, then fiancé, then wife of Liam Hemsworth. The two, who dated on and off for about 10 years (more on that later), split in August 2019. Since then, Miley has had several high-profile relationships. And while the Disney Channel alum was in a longterm relationship for most of the time we knew her, there wee some off periods from Liam where she had brief flings with other stars. With more than 20 years in the biz, it may be hard to keep track of Miley's dating life. She is one of the most written-about stars in Hollywood. Ahead, we try to trace her dating history, from the first moment she met Liam Hemsworth on the set of The Last Song to her 2020 relationship with Cody Simpson. As Miley's fans know, the 'Wrecking Ball' singer is one of a kind. So who is Miley Cyrus dating now? Read on to find out. Miley was linked to musician Maxx Morando after her fling with Cody Simpson. The former drummer of The Regrettes was spotted with the Bangerz singer at Gucci's Love Parade runway show, which took place in November 2021. E! News confirmed their relationship status in October. 'Miley and Maxx are still going strong and their relationship is very serious,' an insider source revealed. 'They have been together for about a year now and Miley is really happy.' They added, 'Everyone in her family loves them together and thinks they mesh really well.' Another source told Entertainment Tonight, 'Miley and Maxx have been having a good time together,' the source tells ET. 'They've been together for a little while and are just enjoying their relationship. Miley likes the fact that they are low-key as a couple and is just focused on doing her thing and being around people that make her happy, and Maxx does that.' Another insider revealed that the two are madly in love. 'They are both artistic and creative, so they bond over being musicians,' and did confirm he joined her at her 2023 NYE party, saying, 'He was backstage with Miley and Pete [Davidson] at the New Year's Eve rehearsals and taping having a good time with them. They were are all super friendly with one another and seemed to have a great night. A source recently told Us Weekly that the two really enjoy having a private relationship. 'Everyone close to Miley says Maxx brings out the best in her,' the insider said. 'They make a lot of sense as a couple.' Miley and Cody were longtime friends before they started dating in October 2019 after her split from Kaitlynn and Liam. The 'Malibu' singer confirmed the relationship with a shirtless photo of Cody with the tweet: 'Get used to me dating – this is where I am at !' Miley confirmed that she and Cody had split in August 2020. 'But, for right now, two halves can't make a whole and we're individually just working on ourselves to become the people that we wanna be,' she said on her Instagram Live at the time. 'Like everybody else at this age, we're just deciding who we wanna be with our lives, what we wanna do with our lives. And so, don't make it some drama story if next week we're out hanging out or getting pizza. We've been friends for 10 years and we're gonna continue to be friends.' Kaitlynn was Miley's first public relationship after her breakup with Liam. The two sparked romance rumors in August 2019 (days after Miley announced her divorce from Liam) after they were photographed kissing in Italy. The two dated for a month before splitting in September 2019. Miley also dated Patrick in between her relationships with Liam. The two started dating in 2014 but split a year later after Schwarzenegger was photographed doing body shots on a mystery woman, according to Us Weekly. The two eventually reconciled before splitting for good in April 2015. In between her breakup and makeup with Liam, Miley dated Kellan. The two had a short romance in late 2013. A source told Us Weekly at the time that Liam wasn't bothered with Miley's fling with his friend. 'It doesn't hurt that he's Liam's pal,' an insider told the magazine at the time. 'They really enjoy each other's company.' Liam is Miley's big relationship. The two met on the set of The Last Song in 2009 in which they both starred. The two broke up in 2010 and reunited a month later. Liam and Miley were then engaged in 2012 when Liam proposed to Miley with a 3.5-carat ring from Neil Lane. 'I'm so happy to be engaged and look forward to a life of happiness with Liam,' Cyrus told People at the time. A source told People the engagement had the blessing of Miley's family. 'Billy Ray loves Liam. He's happy his daughter has found the right guy,' the source said, adding that Hemsworth has spent a lot of time with her family, barbecuing together. 'The whole family loves Liam.' However, the two called off the engagement on September 2013. Months earlier, rumors came out that the Hannah Montana alum and the Hunger Games star split. Miley dispelled the rumors by saying, 'I am so sick of La. And sick of the lies that come with it,' she posted. 'I didn't call off my wedding. Taking a break from social media. #draining' The Independence Day: Insurgence star and the Bangerz singer reunited in January 2016, resuming their engagement less than a month after. Miley and Liam were wedded on December 26, 2018. In a now-deleted Instagram post, they confirmed the wedding, 12.23.18' and '10 years later …..'Miley captioned the post. In the photo of them kissing, the singer wrote: 'This is probably our one–millionth kiss.' Less than a year later, Liam made a post on Instagram about his separation from Miley. 'Hi all, Just a quick note to say that Miley and I have recently separated and I wish her nothing but health and happiness going forward. This is a private matter and I have not made, nor will I be making, any comments to any journalists or media outlets. Any reported quotes attributed to me are false. Peace and Love' Miley's rep confirmed they had separated. 'Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time,' the rep said. The rep continued in the statement: 'Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what's best while they both focus on themselves and careers. They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart. Please respect their process and privacy.' Liam filed for divorce in August 2019. In one instance in an interview with Howard Stern, Miley also revealed that she didn't think she and Liam would ever tie the knot. 'We were together since 16,' she said. 'Our house burned down. We had been like, engaged—I don't know if we really ever thought we were actually going to get married, but when we lost our house in Malibu—which if you listen to my voice pre- and post-fire, they're very different so that trauma really affected my voice. And I was actually in South Africa, so I couldn't come home, and like, my animals were tied to a post at the beach. I lost everything.' The divorce was finalized on February 22, 2020. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2020, she revealed that the Malibu house fire 'did what I couldn't do myself'. 'It removed me from what no longer was serving its purpose,' she told the magazine. 'And then as you drown, you reach for that lifesaver and you want to save yourself. I think that's really what, ultimately, getting married was for me. One last attempt to save myself.' The Bangerz singer denied the cheating rumors when she was fresh out of the divorce. In August 2019, she tweeted, 'The truth is, once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it, & I was committed. There are NO secrets to uncover here. I've learned from every experience in my life. I'm not perfect, I don't want to be, it's boring. I've grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP. I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I've said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.' She continued, 'BUT at this point, I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind. I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time. You can say I am a twerking, pot-smoking, foul-mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar.' On January 13, 2023, which is Liam's birthday, Miley released the song 'Flowers' which is speculated to be about their relationship. Pop culture Twitter PopTingz claimed that the set of the music video was where Hemsworth allegedly cheated on Cyrus with 14 women. 'The house where the music video for Miley Cyrus' 'Flowers' was recorded was previously used by Liam Hemsworth to cheat on Miley with more than 14 women while they were married,' the account tweeted, but the tweet itself is unverified. The tweet went viral with more than 40,000 likes and 10,000 retweets, however it's not confirmed whether he actually cheated on the singer with 14 women. Her 2023 album Endless Summer Vacation is filled with stories about a cheating partner, which lots of fans are speculating that it's about Liam. In 'Muddy Waters,' The lyrics are pretty blunt about her anger towards a partner who is guilty of cheating. 'I don't know / Who the hell you think you're messin' with / Get the f*ck out of my house with that sh*t / Get the f*ck out of my life with that sh*t.' She later sings, 'And you smell like perfume that I didn't purchase / Now I know why you've been closing the curtains / Get the f*ck out of my house.' Miley hasn't verified the reports that it's about her ex Liam Hemsworth, but like 'Flowers' it kind of heads in that direction. 'Muddy Waters' even slyly references another type of flower: 'You've watered the weeds and you killed all the roses.' Miley and Nick dated from June 2006 to December 2007. As fans remember, Miley and Nick, who were both 13 at the time, were stars on the Disney Channel when they dated. Nick's band, the Jonas Brothers, also opened for Miley on her Best of Both Worlds Tour toward the end of their relationship. 'It seemed like my life was over, but everyone still living,' Miley wrote about the breakup in her 2009 book, Miles to Go. One of Miley's most well-known songs about her relationship with Nick is her 2008 single, '7 Things.' In the music video, she even showed a photo of her and the JoBro. The two reunited years later to duet on the Jonas Brothers song 'Before the Storm.' Dylan revealed in a 2008 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he dated Miley for a hot second—a.k.a. one day—when he was around 11 or 12 years old. 'We met at her set, I believe, and we dated. And then Nick Jonas walked by and it was over,' he joked at the time. Miley had a puppy-love romance with Tyler in 2000 after they met on the set of her dad's show, Doc. As Tyler revealed in a past Entertainment Tonight interview, Miley was his first kiss when she was 7 and he was 9. 'We were so damn young…I would get excited when we would hold hands,' he told ET. The Biggest Takeaways From Miley Cyrus's 'Something Beautiful,' According to ELLE Editors

If anyone's long overdue for an eras tour, it's Miley Cyrus. The 32-year-old artist has gone from Disney child star to rebellious teen, to experimental oddball, to a bonafide Grammy winner. Her latest album, Something Beautiful, marks the next stage of her evolution, one with a high-fashion wardrobe, artistic visuals, and a theatrical film to boot. It's sophisticated and mature, emotional but playful—a side of Cyrus we might not have ever seen, or heard, before. But how does it stack up following her chart-topping, award-winning previous album, Endless Summer Vacation? After a recent screening of the Something Beautiful film, which brings all 13 tracks on the album to the screen, two ELLE editors broke down Cyrus's latest offering. There are '80s influences (a saxophone solo and Joan Jett and Pat Benatar vibes); collaborations with her musician boyfriend, Maxx Morando; and even a feature from the one and only Naomi Campbell. As she told fans at the event, this LP is about her finding beauty in destruction, imperfection, and even in pain. Here's how it turned out. Samuel Maude, content strategy manager: So, I'm a Bangerz and Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz apologist. And, by apologist, I mean I think that Bangerz is good music. I have some issues with the era and a lot of the things she did. However, I think it is my favorite Miley album, and after [listening to Something Beautiful], that will stay true. I do think this album is probably what Miley Cyrus has always wanted to make. Erica Gonzales, deputy editor, culture: It seems like that. I think she hinted at saying that in her Zane Lowe interview. SM: Yes. It feels like this is, to her, her best album, and I think that's great. Her albums have really all had a different sound to me. You had Bangerz, which was definitely like that era of pop. You had Dead Petz, which was just experimental. You had Younger Now, which was country, folky, and then you had Plastic Hearts, which— EG: I love Plastic Hearts. I was going to say, that's what I'm an apologist for. SM: I've actually been listening a lot to that album recently, like 'Night Crawler.' EG: I was just listening to that before! SM: And then you have Endless Summer Vacation, which I think is her biggest hit. And coming off of an album like Endless Summer Vacation, this almost feels like a sophomore album in a way, merging her entire past. There are moments of Younger Now. There are moments of Plastic Hearts. There are moments of Endless Summer Vacation. Maybe no moments of Bangerz. But if I had to distill what I think Miley Cyrus wants to sound like as an artist, it is this album, which was exciting. Is it my personal favorite Miley album? It's not. I think there were snoozy elements of it. EG: I hear you. I have never been a diehard 'Smiler.' But I did grow up alongside her. I was in middle school when she was on Hannah Montana, and she's only a year older than me, so we did kind of grow up together, even though she has no idea who I am. SM: I remember when she was in High School Musical 2. EG: And her Jonas Brothers era. We can go on and on. So I think it is interesting seeing this part of her evolution as an artist. It does feel, visually and sonically, like her most mature album. I liked it. I feel like I was more impressed with it because I didn't know what to expect, and I didn't love Endless Summer Vacation as much as everybody else did. Even 'Flowers,' though it's a big hit and a total crowd-pleaser, I feel like it could have been a little more surprising melodically, but it was very simple and approachable. But as a lover of Plastic Hearts, which did not get enough noise as it deserved, the '80s elements [on this record] resonated with me. There were some '80s funk pop vibes on it, funk guitars, and things like that that I thought were interesting. Even visually, the video for the Naomi Campbell song, 'Every Girl You Ever Loved,' kind of looked like the George Michael 'Freedom! '90' music video with the supermodels in the warehouse. I was like, Oh, I see the references here. I feel like there were some moments where the sound felt very big, and maybe that's just because we saw it in a theater. And also re-listening to the 'Prelude' just now, there's a narration; there's an overture, basically. That feels cinematic to me. There were parts that I did find interesting, even though right now, a week out from when we heard it, I don't remember every single song. But I do remember there were certain moments that surprised me, like the Brittany Howard feature. I was like, 'That's so interesting. And you guys do sound good together,' because when Miley does a rock vocal, she sounds so good. She's playing around with her voice and her sound in ways that I find amusing and surprising. SM: I find it fascinating she's marketing this as a capital 'F' film when, as she said, a lot of it is just her posing in Mugler, which, slay. All for it. But is there a story in the film? No. EG: I agree. I don't really know if it counts as a film narratively, but the wardrobe— SM: Ate. EG: Wardrobe department ate, makeup department ate, hair ate, but also had interesting choices. The high ponytail. SM: The high ponytail was really shocking to me. EG: And the three pointy spikes. That was very fun. SM: I've been thinking about how I have friends who are Swifties, Little Monsters, members of Rihanna's Navy, but I don't have friends who are Smilers. Maybe that's on me, but they seem harder to identify. In that case, I don't see this as an album that welcomes new fans in. I don't know if there's a hit that does that. Maybe it's the Naomi Campbell song or 'Walk of Fame,' but I don't think she has a 'Flowers' here. Her 2024 Grammys performance felt so celebratory, and I don't know if this will continue the hype. SM: I'm going to say something bold: I think we need to start recognizing Miley Cyrus as one of the best vocalists of our generation. I think she is often overlooked, but her vocals are so unmatched. She has this growl that is incredible. The notes she hits are insane. I actually don't know if I've ever heard her off-pitch. I think she is a phenomenal vocalist with such an incredible range and ability to do a variety of genres. When we're talking about the great vocalists, we often forget about her. And I think this album showcased her voice in a really great way. EG: There were parts of 'More to Lose' or one of the other ballads where you could really feel the emotion. I love hearing her on a rock or folky sound. I will always remember her backyard session cover of 'Jolene.' It's so good. It was 12 years ago, and I remember at that time thinking, 'Oh my gosh, this is the direction she's going to go in and it will fit so well. She's going to be a folky singer-songwriter-y artist.' But she really kept me on my toes because she went on to do Bangerz, Younger Now, Plastic Hearts, Endless Summer Vacation, and now this. It just says that there's so much in her, and she has so much to explore. SM: That's a really good track. It's wild to me that, before the album came out, she was releasing songs in order [of the track list]. She did not pick the singles correctly. EG: Right. And something we've discussed a lot is to not release your best song as your first single, but like, release it as one of them. SM: It shouldn't be the first single, but the second, sure. EG: Like 'Abracadabra.' SM: I literally wrote, 'Very '80s Joan Jett, Billy Idol.' EG: And those are two features on Plastic Hearts! EG: I did like 'Easy Lover.' SM: I said it was 'jazz country.' EG: It had an upbeat vibe, but it was also kind of rustic at the same time. Her voice was raspy there, and that was really cool. I also wrote, 'She's making a ponytail comeback.' SM: I did not enjoy, unfortunately, 'Golden Burning Sun.' And I do think a lot of the songs melded together, and that was one where I was like, 'Let's go, let's go, let's go [move it along].' Unfortunately, this album reminds me a bit of Radical Optimism. I think there are pure bangers on that album. I loved 'Falling Forever.' I was listening to 'Training Season' this morning. I love 'Houdini.' But then the rest of it, I'm like, 'Okay.' I felt very similarly about Something Beautiful too, where I love certain ones, but I was like, 'This album's falling a little flat for me.' I'm curious if it's going to have a similar treatment where it's like, you have this hit album—for Miley, Endless Summer Vacation, for Dua, Future Nostalgia—then you release a follow-up that doesn't hit the zeitgeist as much. SM: 'Every Girl You've Ever Loved' with Naomi is incredible. That is going to become a 'Sam in his underwear at 1 A.M. with a glass of whiskey, dancing with my microphone' song. EG: The living room concert series. I need to know how she got Naomi Campbell not just in the video, but as a feature on the song. SM: The crowd gasped when she showed up. EG: And then was fully screaming when they strutted together. SM: I mean, it was iconic. I have had this experience with Normani on 'Take My Time,' Dua Lipa with 'Falling Forever,' when you're not 100-percent vibing with an album, and then a song comes, and you're just like, 'We're back.' I was like, 'Pose.' EG: Obviously the Madonna inspiration seems so present there. Again, another '80s influence. SM: And ballroom, which, she said this is her gayest album. EG: It was interesting that not only was he in the videos, but he was also credited with writing a lot of the songs. They're really in it. SM: I mean, that's such a trend right now: Fall in love and write music with your person, like Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky. SM: I think she's a really cool celebrity. She seems down-to-earth. Seeing her in person, she really seems to care about her fans. I just think she has a great persona. Hit me up, Miley. Let's be friends. This interview has been edited and condensed for clarity.

Miley Cyrus Explains How a Late-Night Appearance Enabled Her Viral VMAs Twerking Moment

Miley Cyrus appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, May 22, and confessed to the host that he had a role in her infamous 2013 VMAs performance The Grammy winner explained that she used Kimmel's show as a "trial run" to see if her controversial performance would work During their conversation, she also acknowledged that she's happy Kimmel invited her back while she's in her "new era"Miley Cyrus is reflecting on her viral 2013 VMAs performance — and crediting Jimmy Kimmel for his help. The 32-year-old Grammy-winning artist appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday, May 22, and acknowledged that the late-night host has watched Cyrus grow before his very eyes. The singer explained that her first touch with the controversial Bangerz performances in 2013 began with an appearance on Kimmel's show. 'Let me tell you, I am so happy to see you in my new era,' she began. 'This new era is very sophisticated and I have to tell you, your show allowed me to create the VMAs in 2013.' 'I came here first and I kind of used the show as a trial run, you know, where I dance as a teddy bear like half naked, and everyone thought I was crazy,' she continued. 'But to see if it was going to work, I did it here first.' The 'Angels Like You' singer performed an outdoor show with a few of her big hits on Kimmel's show in June 2013. Then, in August 2013, she notably performed at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, where she was nearly nude twerking performance with Robin Thicke. Despite shocking audiences, it catapulted her to new levels of controversy, while also becoming standard fare for the singer. Since the performance, she has reflected on its impact on her career. In a 2018 interview with Wonderland magazine, she said it helped her grow and realize her potential to reach people. "Not only was culture changed, but my life and career were changed forever," she told the outlet. "It inspired me to use my platform for something much bigger. If the world is going to focus on me and what I am doing, then what I am doing should be impactful and it should be great." She then reflected on her "controversial" VMAs outfit in a 2023 British Vogue's Life in Looks video. The costume, she said while looking directly at the camera, "was extremely controversial and made a lot of people angry. I repeat, this teddy bear costume made a lot of people angry." She also explained the backstory behind the look. "This was inspired by a Todd James sculpture that I had fallen in love with. The bear reminded me of myself for some reason, I thought it was beautiful," Cyrus shared. During Cyrus' Thursday, May 22, appearance, she also chatted about her upcoming film, Something Beautiful, which will accompany her May 30 album of the same name. The project was driven by the songs on the album's tracklist, and she explained that fans shouldn't expect a traditional film with a plot. "The music is the story. Every song is storytelling," Cyrus explained. She continued, saying, "Even though this has become very kind of psychedelic and over the top [like] everything that I do, but at the end of it, really the heart of it is just the music. Really, the storytelling. So there was no need for characterization because I'm the character. And I never want to become something or someone that I'm not."
