BAN, SA emerging players in on-field physical altercation

The incident unfolded midway through the final four-day match in Dhaka when Ripon Mondol struck a straight six off Tshepo Ntuli, leading to a physical confrontation An intense on-field altercation marred the final four-day match between the Bangladesh Emerging Team and South Africa Emerging Team in Dhaka on Wednesday. The clash erupted when South African bowler Tshepo Ntuli confronted Bangladesh batter Ripon Mondol after being hit for a straight six. As the players exchanged heated glances, Ntuli charged at Ripon, triggering a scuffle that shocked spectators and commentators alike. The officials have not taken immediate disciplinary action, as match protocol requires the on-field umpires to file a formal report before sanctions can be imposed. This match marks the conclusion of the tour, where previous incidents had already highlighted rising tensions between the two sides. What actually happened? The incident unfolded midway through the match when Ripon Mondol launched a straight six off Ntuli. As Ripon turned to walk back to his partner Mehidy Hasan, the South African quick reportedly glared at him before charging forward. What followed was an unexpected physical tussle, where both players shoved each other before Ntuli grabbed and pulled at Ripon's helmet. On-field umpire Kamruzzaman attempted to defuse the situation, but Ntuli managed to tug at the helmet a second time before being restrained. Shockingly, a few South African teammates of Ntuli appeared to support his aggression, advancing towards Ripon, who had taken off his helmet by then. Things got a bit heated in the BAN Emerging vs SA Emerging game #Cricket — Priyansh Jain (@priyansh0327) May 28, 2025 Just three deliveries after the scuffle, Ntuli again sparked controversy by throwing the ball at Ripon after a defensive shot. Ripon narrowly avoided being struck, further escalating the drama on the field. Reactions and expected consequences TV commentators were left stunned. Nabil Kaiser noted during the broadcast that while verbal altercations are not uncommon in cricket, physical confrontations of this magnitude are rare and deeply concerning. He emphasised that Ntuli's act of striking Ripon's helmet crossed a serious line. According to a report from ESPNcricinfo, the match referee is preparing an official report, which will be submitted to both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA). Disciplinary measures are expected soon. Previous clashes on tour This was not the first sign of friction between the two teams. During the one-day series in Rajshahi earlier in the tour, South Africa's Andile Simelane and Bangladesh's Jishan Alam were suspended after a heated exchange in the second match, ruling them out of the series decider. The South Africa Emerging side lost the ODI series 2-1, while the opening four-day game in Chattogram ended in a draw. The current match, now overshadowed by controversy, is the final fixture of the tour.

Helmet grab sparks chaos in Emerging match

Dhaka, May 28 (UNI) The four-day match between the South Africa Emerging Team and Bangladesh Emerging Team was marred by an ugly on-field scuffle on Wednesday, with South African pacer Tshepo Ntuli physically tugging at the helmet of Bangladeshi batsman Ripon Mondol, twice, even as the umpire tried to intervene. The shocking incident occurred at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium shortly after Ripon struck Ntuli for a straight six. As he walked over to his batting partner Mehidy Hasan, Ripon appeared to exchange glances with the bowler. Ntuli then charged at him, leading to a heated confrontation. The two players initially shoved each other before Ntuli grabbed Ripon's helmet. On-field umpire Kamruzzaman stepped in to separate them, but Ntuli again tugged at Ripon's helmet, ignoring the umpire's attempts to calm the situation. The batsman eventually removed his helmet as tensions escalated. Several South African players on the field did not restrain Ntuli; in fact, a couple of them appeared to charge towards Ripon, further aggravating the situation. The scuffle drew immediate and sharp reactions from the commentary box. "This is extreme, this is unacceptable. Normally we see verbal altercations on a cricket field but we don't often see a scuffle. Ntuli struck Ripon's helmet at one point," said commentator Nabil Kaiser on air. The tension did not end there. Just three deliveries after play resumed, Ntuli threw the ball back aggressively at Ripon after the batsman defended it, forcing Ripon to fend it off to avoid being hit. Despite the seriousness of the incident, no immediate disciplinary action was taken. As per ICC protocol, sanctions can only be announced after the on-field umpires submit an official report. The match referee enjoys the prerogative of filing reports with both the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA), with strong disciplinary measures. This was not the first flashpoint of the tour. Tensions had flared earlier during the one-day series in Rajshahi, where South Africa's Andile Simelane and Bangladesh's Jishan Alam were both suspended after a separate confrontation in the second one-dayer. The ongoing four-day match is the final game of South Africa Emerging's tour. They lost the one-day series 2–1, while the first four-day match in Chattogram ended in a draw. UNI BDN GNK

South Africa bowler storms at BAN batter, grabs his helmet twice in 'extreme, unacceptable' scuffle during Emerging Test

An "unacceptable" and "extreme" situation unfolded in Dhaka on Wednesday when South Africa bowler Tshepo Ntuli and Bangladesh batter Ripon Mondol got into a scuffle during the four-day red-ball match between Bangladesh Emerging Team and South Africa Emerging Team. The on-field umpires are yet to submit an official report on the incident, after which the sanctions will be announced. The incident happened after Ripon scored a six against Ntuli. As he made his way to the other end of the pitch, towards his batting partner Mehidy Hasan, he exchanged glances with the bowler, after which the Ntuli stormed at him. The two shoved each other, before Ntuli grabbed and pulled the batter's helmet twice. Umpire Kamruzzaman immediately ran to intervene but did not get support from fellow players. In fact, a few South African players too, had joined Ntuli in charging at Ripon, who then removed his helmet. The incident drew flak from commentators and on social media. "This is extreme, this is unacceptable. Normally we see verbal altercations in a cricket field but we don't often see a scuffle. Ntuli struck Ripon's helmet at one point," Nabil Kaiser, one of the on-air commentators, said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. The fight did not end there. Three balls later, Ntuli hurled the ball towards the batter after Ripon had defended the delivery back towards the bowler. The batter managed to duck it. According to ESPNCricinfo, BCB and CSA will receive the official report on the incident from the match referee, before the final action is taken. This was not the first such incident during the campaign. Earlier, during the 50-over contest in Rajshahi, Andile Simelane and Jishan Alam were handed suspensions following their acts in the second match. The ongoing red-ball match is the final game in the contest. Bangladesh had won the one-day leg 2-1, while the first four-day match had ended in a draw in Chattogram.
