Dumfries care home worker receives long service award after working at Lochduhar Care Home for 25 years
Margaret Murdoch started working at Lochduhar in May 2000 as a carer before moving to work in the activities team . An activities co-ordinator at Lochduhar Care Home in Dumfries has received a prestigious 25 Year Service Award from Barchester Healthcare. Margaret Murdoch started working for Barchester in May 2000. She originally joined the team at Lochduhar as a carer before moving to work in the activities team. Margaret has worked tirelessly with residents and their relatives to ensure that their needs have been successfully met over the years. Adele Keenan, employee services director at Barchester, said: 'I'm always pleased to hear stories about the long service of Barchester staff and am delighted that Margaret has achieved this milestone. It is dedication like this that ensures our residents are provided with a happy place to live.' Gillian Ward, general manager of Lochduhar, said: 'We're delighted to be celebrating 25 years of loyal service with Margaret. She has demonstrated her dedication and loyalty to this home and its residents year after year. I speak for all of us here at Lochduhar when I say that I'm looking forward to many more years of working with Margaret'.

Care home directors swapping suits for chefs' whites in cook-off
Two care home regional directors will swap their business suits for chefs' whites. Maria Stefea and Jayne Holloway, directors at Barchester's Moors Manor care home in St Leonards, Ringwood, are stepping "completely out of their comfort zones" to take part in a charity cook-off. The Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2025 will see the pair go head-to-head with two regional directors from each of Barchester's four other divisions to raise money for the foundation. The foundation helps connect vulnerable people, and those living with a disability, to community groups in their local area by providing grants to improve mobility and quality of life. (Image: Barchester) Each year the foundation distributes thousands of pounds to individuals, small community groups and charities across England, Scotland and Wales. In 2024 the foundation achieved a donation milestone of £335,000 which enabled the charity to provide vital help to 239 small groups and charities, plus 104 individuals in one year alone. Maria said: "Jayne and I are passionate about the foundation and we both jumped at the chance to be able to raise funds and give back. General manager of Moors Manor care home, Gemma Chalkley, said: "We are all so proud of Jayne and Maria for taking part in this challenge, they really are amazing – is there nothing they can't do? "Their dishes look absolutely fantastic and they will raise so much money for the foundation, we think they are absolute superstars."

Swindon care home chefs to take part in charity cook-off
Two care home directors are competing in a charity cook-off. Claire Brewer and Isabela Andriuca, from Barchester's Central Division, are taking part in the Barchester Charitable Foundation Cook Off 2025. The duo, who work at White Lodge care home in Braydon, Swindon, will be competing against two regional directors from each of Barchester's four other divisions. The aim is to raise funds for Barchester's Charitable Foundation, which supports vulnerable people and those living with disabilities. Claire Brewer said: "Isabela and I are passionate about the Foundation so we both jumped at the chance to be able to raise funds and give back. "We both love cooking, I am self-taught because I think it is so important for my kids to eat well." Care home recognises team with afternoon tea
A care home celebrated its activities team by hosting an afternoon tea. Shelburne Lodge care home, in High Wycombe, recognised the efforts of its staff during National Activity Providers and Professionals Week, which takes place from January 20 to 24. The team was thanked for its 'hard work and dedication' and was treated to an afternoon tea. Staff were joined by family and friends for the occasion. (Image: Barchester) Residents also showed their appreciation by giving activity coordinator lead, Helen Abbott, a special gift. Diana Nica, general manager, said: "It is so wonderful to be able to celebrate National Activities Providers and Professionals Week and thank our fantastic activities team for all their hard work by organising something for them for a change. "Helen is truly amazing and her bubbly personality and infectious smile is loved by all at Shelburne Lodge." The care home is part of Barchester Healthcare, which is one of the UK's largest care providers, supporting more than 13,000 residents across 258 homes and hospitals.
