Two projectiles fired at northern Israel from Syrian territory
Jerusalem, June 4 (UNI) The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday it had recorded two missiles fired from Syrian territory into northern Israel, landing in open areas. "Following the sirens that sounded in Haspin and Ramat Magshimim at 21:36 [18:36 GMT], two projectiles were identified crossing from Syria into Israeli territory, and fell in open areas," the IDF wrote on Telegram. No information about injuries or damage to property was provided. Israeli broadcaster Kan reported, commenting on the incident, that those had been the first shelling of Israel from Syria since former Syrian President Bashar Assad was ousted in December 2024. Islamic State group claims first attack on Syrian government forces since Assad's fall
BEIRUT (AP) — The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for two attacks in southern Syria, including one on government forces that an opposition war monitor described as the first on the Syrian army to be adopted by the extremists since the fall of Bashar Assad. In two separate statements issued late Thursday, IS said that in the first attack, a bomb was detonated targeting a 'vehicle of the apostate regime,' leaving seven soldiers dead or wounded. It said the attack occurred 'last Thursday,' or May 22, in the al-Safa area in the desert of the southern province of Sweida.

Israel issued its strongest threat yet against Iran yesterday, warning it would do to it what it has done to Hamas in Gaza after an attack on Ben Gurion airport by Iran-backed Houthi rebels. Along with Hezbollah and Hamas, Yemen's Houthi rebels are part of Iran's 'axis of resistance' against Israel and its ally the United States. They say their repeated attacks on Israel and on shipping in the Red Sea are in solidarity with Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, where Hamas sparked a war in October 2023 by launching an unprecedented attack on Israel. Israel hit back against the Houthis' attack on its main airport on Sunday by striking the airport in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, as well as three power stations in the impoverished country. 'I warn... Iranian leaders who finance, arm and exploit the Houthi terrorist organization: the proxy system is terminated and the axis of evil has collapsed,' Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a statement. 'You are directly responsible. What we have done to Hezbollah in Beirut, to Hamas in Gaza, to (now ousted Syrian president Bashar) Assad in Damascus, we will do to you in Tehran too.' Warning that Israel would not allow 'any entity to harm Israel', Katz added: 'Israel should be able to defend itself... against any threat and against any enemy.
