Ree Drummond's Grandma Moves for Sofia Are Pure Joy to Watch!
You'd never know Ree Drummond is a first-time grandmother based on the way she is absolutely excelling at grandbaby duties! Ree has been outspoken about the uncertainties regarding becoming a grandparent since her eldest daughter Alex announced her pregnancy, but it's clear that The Pioneer Woman (endearingly called ReeRee in her new role) is already beyond loved by five-month-old granddaughter Sofia. Keep reading to see the adorable (and hilarious) video of Ree getting silly to entertain Sofia on their walk! In a new Instagram post, Ree can be seen dancing and skipping down the road while walking and pushing Sofia in her stroller as the song 'We're Off to See The Wizard' plays in the background, doing everything she can to keep the baby girl happy. 'Entertaining Sofia during her fussy pre-bedtime walk last night,' Ree captioned her video. 'We parents and grandparents do what must be done.' She also asked viewers to ignore the interruption of the family Basset Hound dogs, as they had to follow Ree and Sofia and investigate all of the smells along the ranch road (Alex's golden retriever George could also be seen joining the fun!) Later on, Alex shared her own point-of-view with a video shared to her Instagram stories (which you can see in this The Pioneer Woman blog post). The close-up of Sofia reveals that Ree's attempts were fruitful, as the baby sweetly laughed at her antics. 'ReeRee is so funny!!,' Alex captioned the video, where Ree can also be seen using a baseball cap to tap Sofia's tiny feet. 'She didn't want to hold the hat, she wanted me to pat her feet with the hat,' Ree chimed while re-sharing Alex's post. Ree is always sure to share moments captured when she visits with Sofia, and most recently, the family was all together to celebrate the wedding of Paige Drummond at the ranch. In her The Pioneer Woman recap of Paige marrying David Andersen, Ree included an adorable snap of Sofia with her parents outside on the sprawling Drummond ranch grounds. 'Alex and Mauricio got married in this spot four years ago,' she captioned the photo. 'And look at precious Sofia.' And, in an Instagram post where Ree shared some of her favorite pictures from the day, Sofia of course made multiple appearances. These special moments included Paige holding Sofia and kissing her on the cheek, and Sofia being carried down the aisle by her dad, Mauricio Scott, during the ceremony. Ree also shared photos of herself and husband Ladd Drummond holding Sofia during the wedding (complete with a zoom-in on Sofia's face), with the caption 'Our little pookie princess.' Top five calmest dog breeds for those looking for a peaceful pet including gentle giant
These pups are the least likely to bark and cause general chaos. Choosing which type of dog you want is a huge decision, with many elements to consider. And which breed you choose can have a huge effect on your pup's characteristics. Will they shed a lot? Or be likely to smell? Or be more likely to bark all the time? Different breeds of dog can have different personalities, so it's crucial to do your research to find the type of dog most suited to you and your needs. If you're after a more peaceful pet experience, you may be interested in a breed of pup renowned for their calm energy. The experts at Animigo have rounded up a list of the top five calmest dog breeds that aren't likely to be a total stress to own. Here's their list of the most chilled out canines for a calm and peaceful household. Top five calmest dog breeds 1. Pug Animigo says on their website: "A tiny ball of cuteness, pugs are great when it comes to lazy dog breeds. As a result of their squashed face, they're prone to breathing problems, so only require minimal exercise, making them ideal inside dogs. "In addition to this, being on average only around 20 pounds, they are great for sitting on your lap and chilling out on the sofa, so when looking for lazy dogs to accompany your laid-back lifestyle, look no further than a pug!" But while they may be quiet, pugs are also known for their flatulence, so while your home may be calm, it may also be stinky. 2. Great Dane The animal experts explain that despite their size, these pooches are gentle giants at heart. "Great Danes are pretty chilled and aren't likely to get over excited when you walk in the door or anxious when you leave the house", the animal pros said. "They're generally serene and quiet, making them one of the best calm dog breeds for those looking for a big dog!" 3. Basset Hound Basset Hounds are stereotyped to be calm and content, and as long as they are able to exercise regularly, they're typically lazy around the house. Older pet parents who don't want to be run off their feet will benefit from this dog's chilled-out attitude, as they aren't likely to cause chaos. 4. Shih Tzu Animago said: "Although they have a bit of a reputation as a 'yappy' breed, with proper training and care they can be a good example when it comes to calm dogs. Thanks to their tiny size, they don't require too much time exercising outdoors, making them perfect indoor companions." They still require plenty of playing and attention, and also need regularly groomed, but a Shih Tzu is a great option for those looking for a small dog. 5. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Also on our list of the most affordable pooches, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels can be easily trained, making them perfect when looking for calm dogs. Unlike many small dogs, a Cavalier isn't very loud, so they are a great quiet dog breed, and their small size means they don't require loads of exercise, and so are happy to lounge around the house. Update on Stray Basset Hound Who Gave Birth in a Shop Has People in Tears
All it takes is one person — one single person — to change an animal's world. Just take the incredible change in Bentley, a stray Basset Hound who's found a new lease on life. The dog has truly found her forever home. And now an update on the dog has people online in tears. The transformation is truly incredible. One day the Basset Hound was on the street and the next it's like she's a completely different dog. Shared by Caitie's Foster Farm, the turnaround has been truly incredible. When Bentley was first found, she was in rough shape. The dog looked like she hadn't been cared for in so long. But that would quickly change once she arrived in Caitie's care. Flash forward to today, not only does the Basset Hound look better, she seems so much happier too.'From a stray giving birth in a shop…to adopted and so loved,' the video's text overlay reads. Bentley even recently got to reunite with her foster mama! 'Bringing joy to your social media feed today with a mama Bentley update. There's nothing I love sharing more than their transformations,' the video's caption reads. People in the comments section were so happy to see the transformation. 'She is thriving,' wrote one person. 'What a sweetheart,' someone else agreed. 'Basset Hounds are the best,' praised one commenter. 'Awwwwww I love this,' gushed another person. Bentley was first found a year ago, when she was all by her lonesome with her puppies. She'd been found on the streets and brought into a shop by the workers. They gave her a place for her and her baby to stay and then called Caitie to come to the rescue. The family was covered in fleas when she found them. But a quick bath seemed to help take care of the pests. Things have only gotten better for Bentley and her babies. We can't wait to see what the future holds for them! Cute puppies help Greenacres and Border Collie Rescue
Cotton's Crèche at Bethesda near Narberth has held a dog show weekend every year of its existence, and this one was another huge success. With a variety of classes and even agility courses, there was a chance for every four-legged friend to shine, and more than £840 was raised to be shared between Pembrokeshire's Greenacres Rescue and the Border Collie Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre. And it was appropriate that some heartwarming stories were highlighted during the show. The title of Loveliest Lady and second best in show went to little Roxy who had lost both her eyes – one from a dog attack and the other from glaucoma. 'She's 16 and still beautiful as ever,' said the owner of Cotton's Crèche, Annie Thomas. Meanwhile, Brenda the Cardigan Corgi claimed the award for Best Rescue Story. Cardigan Corgi Brenda has a happy new life after a sad start. (Image: Cotton's Creche) Brenda was adopted from Greenacres after being used for breeding and then dumped. Annie added: 'Her white fur was all yellow and she was kept in a small cage and she was terrified, but she's finally coming around and growing her confidence.' The overall winner of Best in Show was another Roxy – this time, a Basset Hound who also scooped the agility award. Third place went to handsome Brodie, who won the Waggiest Tail category. Annie added: 'We just want to say the biggest thank you to everyone who came along to our ninth annual dog show weekend – what a day it was! "The field was packed, the dogs were on top form, and the atmosphere was absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Cotton's Creche was a hive of activity throughout the day. (Image: Cotton's Creche) 'Thanks to everyone'sgenerosity (and some very enthusiastic raffle ticket buying!), we raised an amazing £842.34 for our two chosen dog charities – that's over £200 an hour! "Every single penny will help give dogs a better future, and we're so proud to support the work these amazing rescues do. "'It was busy from the word go, and we couldn't have pulled it off without our incredible team. Everyone mucked in – setting up early, running stalls, organising the show rings, serving food, keeping the dogs happy and safe, and keeping the whole day running like clockwork. "To everyone who helped, attended, donated, cheered on a pup, or entered the dog show – thank you. It really does take a village to pull something like this together and we're so grateful to have such a kind, supportive community around us. "Here's to next year – which will be ten years and even more wagging tails!"

Virginia Aquarium responded to record number of sea turtle hypothermia cases this season
A small crowd gathered Friday morning to watch Basset Hound scoot toward the shore north of the Virginia Beach resort area. Basset Hound, a young loggerhead sea turtle, had not touched the water in four months. On Jan. 5, members of the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center's stranding response team received the call that the turtle had been stranded in Portsmouth. Back at the Darden Marine Animal Conservation Center, staff found that the turtle's internal temperature was 41 degrees Fahrenheit, a concerning sign since a healthy temperature for the species is about 75 degrees. Basset Hound was cold-stunned. When the sea-water temperature drops to about 55 degrees, sea turtles can be 'cold-stunned,' a type of hypothermia, said research scientist Joanna Daniel, and for Basset Hound, pneumonia had already begun to set in. In other cases, it's common to see sepsis or other secondary infections. 'Their organs are shutting down,' Daniel said of the rescued turtles. 'Sometimes their heart rate can be, like, one beat in a few minutes. You may not be seeing them breathe at all, so they really look dead. They're totally limp.' This year, the team responded to 77 cold-stunned sea turtles from November 2024 to early 2025, a record-breaking year. Last year, the team responded to just 31 cold-stunned sea turtles stranded in the 2023-2024 season and 25 during the winter of 2022-2023. During stranding calls this winter, 27 live turtles were admitted for rehabilitation at the center, and each turtle received a name based on a theme picked at beginning of the season. This year's theme was dog breeds. Team members cared for 15 green sea turtles, six loggerhead sea turtles and six critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtles. Many of these turtles arrived non-responsive and in critical condition, according to the team. Eight did not respond to emergency intervention and died within the first few hours of being admitted to the rehabilitation facility. With Basset Hound back in the ocean, it's another success story for the team. It's the 18th turtle release of the season, with the others returning to the water in Florida and North Carolina. Now, there are only two turtles left at the center. 'It's been really rewarding, because we've gotten to release a lot of the turtles back into the water like (Basset Hound),' Daniel said. 'But it's certainly been a lot of work and resource load on our staff.' Daniel said beachgoers should always call the response team about stranded sea animals to give them the best chance for survival. The hotline, 757-385-7575, is monitored 24/7, and supporters can also donate to the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center Foundation, which supports the team's staff and volunteers with donations.
