James Gunn Says THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD Isn't DCU's Priority Yet, Keeps Batman Casting Under Wraps — GeekTyrant
James Gunn is in no rush to reveal who will wear the cape and cowl in The Brave and the Bold . While fans are eager to meet the DCU's new Batman, Gunn made it clear that the project is still in early development. Gunn was asked about casting on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, and he responded: 'There's people out there I think about, but let's see where the script comes in. It's not the furthest along thing. I mean, we have things that are much, much further along.' This means fans shouldn't expect news anytime soon. Gunn also confirmed that Matt Reeves' The Batman Part II and The Brave and the Bold likely won't share a release year. He avoided confirming whether this film will serve as the official debut of the DCU's Dark Knight but did tease its significance, noting it will introduce Damian Wayne as Robin, marking the first live-action appearance of Bruce Wayne's son. For those keeping track, Gunn and Safran's DCU rollout is pacing differently than Marvel. After Superman , the only other major DC release this year is Peacemaker Season 2, which arrives on HBO Max August 21. Supergirl follows on June 26, 2026, and Clayface lands on September 11, 2026. That's two DC films in 2025 compared to Marvel's three movies and three series before mid-year. As for Batman , patience will be key. The Batman Part II is set to start filming in 2026 with an October 2027 release date, making it almost certain that Reeves' sequel will arrive before Gunn's take on the Dark Knight. For now, The Brave and the Bold has no set release date, so it may be a while before we see the Bat-family enter the new DCU. Would you rather see Gunn introduce Batman sooner in a cameo or wait for a full introduction in The Brave and the Bold ?

‘The Fantastic Four' film they won't let you see (and how to watch it)
'I want a Fantastic Four flick, and I don't want it good – I want it Tuesday!' With these immortal words, German producer Bernd Eichinger commissioned legendary independent filmmaker Roger Corman to make a film based on Marvel Comics' The Fantastic Four. The twist? It was never meant to be seen by the public. In the first issue of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's The Fantastic Four comic, published in November 1961, four astronauts – inventor Reed Richards, his scientist fiancée Susan Storm, her younger brother Johnny, and their friend Ben Grimm – were granted superpowers following exposure to an alien phenomenon during the first spaceflight of their experimental rocket. Richards was reborn as 'Mr. Fantastic', able to elongate any part of his body; Susan became 'The Invisible Girl' (self-explanatory); hot-headed Johnny could ignite himself into living flame, becoming 'The Human Torch'; most tragically, Ben's body took on stone-like properties, granting him superhuman strength and the nickname 'The Thing'. It was an instant success, but – Invisible Girl aside – the special effects required to bring such superpowers to the screen were not available to filmmakers until the late 1980s. It was then that Eichinger took an open-ended option to make a Fantastic Four film, on the proviso that it entered production by the end of 1992. In the meantime, Tim Burton's Batman became one of cinema's biggest ever box office and merchandising success stories, opening the doors to anyone with the rights to a hot superhero property. Eichinger hatched a plan as brilliant, cunning and diabolical as any the Fantastic Four's nemesis, Dr Doom, had ever dreamed up. By making an ultra-low-budget film, the producer could hold onto the rights, hoping that in the meantime, he would be able to set up a big deal at a major studio. If such a deal could not be made, the producer would still be left holding the negative of a Fantastic Four film, which could be released at a profit. Roger Corman, who – according to the title of his own autobiography – 'Made a Hundred Movies in Hollywood and Never Lost a Dime' was chosen to make the film, and Oley Sassone (Bloodfist III: Forced to Fight) was hired to direct. Principal photography began on Boxing Day 1992, just five days before the rights were due to expire. It lasted a mere four weeks. The producer hatched a plan as cunning and diabolical as any of Dr Doom's Alex Hyde-White and Rebecca Staab played Reed Richards and Susan Storm respectively; actor/stuntman Carl Ciarfalio (The Incredible Hulk Returns) donned a convincingly concrete costume to play Ben Grimm, while Jay Underwood burned his scalp and almost fried his hair off, dying his brown locks blond to play Johnny Storm. Lee had longed to see his self-styled 'World's Greatest Comic Book' on screen, but understandably had concerns about the $1.5 million budget – a fraction of Batman's $35 million price tag. 'I have a sentimental attachment to The Fantastic Four,' he said, 'and I was heartbroken to think it might appear only as a low-budget quickie'. Then, just days before its January 1994 premiere, it emerged that Eichinger had bought back the film's negative, intending to shelve it – permanently. 'I feel very, very sorry for the actors and the director and most of the people involved in it,' a disappointed Lee commented. Six months later, 20th Century Fox announced that it had secured the rights from Eichinger, hiring Home Alone and Mrs Doubtfire director Chris Columbus to direct a brand new $40 million movie, with real-life couple Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan tipped to star. Corman's budget-challenged yet well-meaning production would be relegated to fuzzy bootlegs sold at comic conventions and under the counters of video rental stores. Ironically, Columbus' film never happened, torpedoed by post- Batman superhero flops such as The Phantom and The Shadow. It would be another decade before Fox cashed in on the noughties success of The X-Men and Spider-Man by making a Fantastic Four film, with the then-unknown Chris Evans – Marvel's future Captain America – as Johnny Storm. A year before its 2005 release, moviegoers had marvelled at another family of superheroes, featuring super-strong inventor Mr Incredible and his wife, stretchy superhero Elastigirl, clearly a riff on the Fantastic Four. The success of The Incredibles did not doom the box office prospects of The Fantastic Four, however: it was as big a hit as The X-Men. But the 2007 sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, was a flop and a third film failed to materialise. Now, as Marvel's own The Fantastic Four: First Steps towers over the summer box office like the shadow of Galactus, Roger Corman's 1994 version remains officially unreleased anywhere in the world.

NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season
NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season originally appeared on The Spun. After scrapping their Bumblebee uniforms back in 2018, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now reaching back to a similar era with their new throwbacks set to debut this year. On Monday, the team officially unveiled the first look at its 1933-inspired threads that call back to the beginning days of the franchise with gold helmets, gold jerseys with black stripes and large block lettering; along with the City of Pittsburgh crest on the left shoulder and beige pants. The uniforms will reportedly be worn in the team's "Sunday Night Football" matchup vs. the Green Bay Packers this October after last making an appearance in the mid-'90s. It didn't take long for fans to give their (mostly negative) opinions online. "I am issuing a full apology to the Chargers yellow jerseys, it could always be worse," a user said. "Are these the jerseys from Batman?" another person asked. "Ngl this is hideous," a fan commented. "🗑️" "maybe the worst thing ive ever seen," Zach Frydenlund posted. "So cool of the Steelers to pay tribute to the Gotham City Rogues." "This is ….. something," a Chiefs account replied. "these are so incredibly ugly I cannot believe any person with a functioning brain signed off on these," another user admitted. "These should be illegal." There haven't been a lot of changes to the Steelers uniforms over the years. So when they do decide to throw it back, it's usually to a bygone era like the 1930s when the team's look was more... colorful. Should Pittsburgh have brought these back? Or are these ones that could've stayed in the archives?NFL Fans Trashing Steelers' New Uniforms For 2025 Season first appeared on The Spun on Jul 21, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 21, 2025, where it first appeared.

DCU boss James Gunn says Batman and Wonder Woman won't start production until they have good scripts because they "deserve the best"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Now that David Corenswet's Superman is flying high at the box office and Milly Alcock's Supergirl is hitting cinemas next year, DC fans are already thinking about the next major superheroes that are set to join the franchise. Of course, we're talking about Batman and Wonder Woman, who are yet to be cast in the new DCU. When asked about when fans will be able to see these characters again, DC Studios co-head James Gunn said it's all about finding the right script. "I mean, it's not going to be until the scripts are ready. So, both the scripts are being written now, and, if they're good, then we'll go into production immediately," he told radio Urbana Play. "So it really depends on how we can get the scripts done," he added, "because the one thing I'm just not going to do is go into production without a script that I feel is fantastic, especially for those characters who deserve the best. I'd rather wait a year than go too soon". This is not the first time Gunn says the script is a priority for him. The Superman director recently revealed that he chose Supergirl as the next DCU movie because of its "incredible script", and he prioritised an unexpected project like Clayface because of Mike Flanagan's horror-inspired script. So we'll have to wait and see if Gunn loves the Batman and Wonder Woman scripts that are being written right now. Beyond The Batman 2, which is part of an alternative DC universe called Elseworlds, another Batman movie titled The Brave and the Bold is in the works. The film is set to follow Batman and his son Damian Wayne as Robin. "It's a strange father and son story about the two of them and based on Grant Morrison's run of the Batman," Gunn explained during the original DCU presentation. Robert Pattinson would not be reprising the role for this movie. In a exclusive interview with GamesRadar+ earlier this month, James Gunn revealed that "there's really no new updates" about the upcoming Batman movie, but they have a screenwriter "who's hammering away at it." There is even less news about a new Wonder Woman movie, after a third movie starring Gal Gadot was cancelled at DC. The recasting has been the source of much speculation since Gunn confirmed a brand-new Wonder Woman movie was in the works earlier this year. Gunn addressed Adria Arjona's fan casting saying that she would make a "great" candidate, but it's too early to confirm anything at this point. A separate Wonder Woman prequel series, titled Paradise Lost, is also on the way, focused on the Amazon island of Themyscira. Superman hits the big screen on July 11. DC boss James Gunn says we can expect to see Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman on screen together in the DCU, but not just yet
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. DC boss James Gunn has confirmed that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will appear on screen together in his new DCU, but it won't be for a little while yet. "Of course, yeah! But, not in the next movie," Gunn told Deadline on the red carpet at Superman's London premiere when asked if the three would cross paths in the new shared universe. Of course, we've seen the trio together in the DCEU, in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, played by Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot. The DCU has rebooted the comic book universe, however, and now David Corenswet is taking on the role of the Man of Steel. Batman and Wonder Woman have yet to be recast. Corenswet will be joined by Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor in Superman, alongside a supporting cast that includes Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Fantastic, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. A DCU Batman movie (separate from Matt Reeves' The Batman and its upcoming sequel) is also in the works. The Brave and the Bold, which will center around Batman and Robin, will be directed by IT's Andy Muschietti, but not much is known about the movie just yet. A new Wonder Woman movie is currently being written, but details are thin on the ground about that project, too. Superman flies onto the big screen on July 11 as the first feature-length installment of the DCU Chapter One. While we wait, check out our guide to the other upcoming superhero movies on the way in 2025 and beyond. Solve the daily Crossword
