Man dead after being hit by car during fight on Geronimo Street in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating after a man died in a fight on Friday. Officers responded to the 3300 block of Geronimo Street after a man was hit by a car. According to BRPD, Montrell Green, 35, and another man were involved in an argument that led to Green firing a weapon. Police said the other man got into a vehicle. While trying to escape, they hit Green as he tried to block the way out. Green was taken to the hospital but died from his injuries on Aug. 2. Police said the driver was detained for questioning and later released. No charges were announced. The investigation is ongoing, and police ask anyone with information to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 225-389-4869 or call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867. Baton Rouge man charged with home invasion, armed robbery
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested a Baton Rouge man wanted on multiple charges, including armed robbery and home invasion. The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested Braelin Whitfield, 29, in connection with two separate outstanding warrants after detectives learned he had been taken into custody as a fugitive by deputies on June 12. Police said Whitfield was booked on two counts of attempted simple burglary of a vehicle in connection with an October 2024 case. According to BRPD, he had been arrested by deputies on the same night of the crime. In a second case, Whitfield is accused of firing a shot and stealing the victim's car in a home invasion from November 2024. Police said Whitfield crashed the car into a fence and fled. He was charged with armed robbery – firearm, theft of a firearm, home invasion, illegal use of weapons and two counts of attempted simple burglary. BRPD noted that Whitfield has previously been arrested on charges of simple burglary, theft and battery. Baton Rouge man arrested on car theft, gun charges
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation by the Baton Rouge Police Department into alleged criminal activities led to the arrest of a Baton Rouge man on theft and gun charges. Anthony Thomas Jr., 22, was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a machine gun. The investigation started in May of this year with Thomas as the focus. BRPD said Thomas was identified as a 'Youngin's Taking Over' member, which is tied to the 'Bleeda' gang. As the investigation unfolded, BRPD found that Thomas had a vehicle that was reported stolen. Police saw him with a Glock handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device during surveillance. The Baton Rouge man was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday, June 12. Police said he was found with a handgun equipped with a machine gun conversion device at the time of his arrest. Thomas has previously been arrested and charged with obstruction of justice, illegal carrying of a weapon, domestic abuse battery, distribution of Schedule I and possession of Schedule V. The Baton Rouge man was caught with the help of the United States Marshals Service Task Force and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Task Force. Police: 3 men charged after drug, gun trafficking investigation in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Police arrested three men after an investigation into drug and gun trafficking violations in Baton Rouge. The Baton Rouge Police Department announced the arrests of Jaquael Robinson, 20, Deonta White, 25, and Keyon Kyser, 23. Police said Robinson was identified as a member of the 'Shiesty Gang Kartel' after the investigation was launched in May. Investigators searched two homes on Jefferson Highway and Gwen Drive on June 9. Police noted that the Gwen Drive home was previously searched in April. Baton Rouge woman charged after kids found unattended outside apartment multiple times, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The Baton Rouge Police Department recently looked into whether children were left unattended outside of an apartment. The ensuing investigation led to a Baton Rouge woman being taken into custody. Ariana Dedeaux, 20, was charged with child desertion. BRPD responded to an apartment in the 2200 block of College Drive and were told by someone that two children kept exiting the apartment. The children were a 1-year-old and a two-year-old, BRPD said. They were 'found three weeks ago, unattended on the balcony near the home and playing on the outside stairwells,' according to the affidavit. Police were also told that the children were seen in the parking lot without any supervision on Monday, June 2. Residents located the children and took them to the office until Dedeaux was contacted, BRPD said. On Tuesday, June 3, the two-year-old was found again in the parking lot with no one around to watch him. He was taken to the office again by a resident. BRPD went to the children's apartment and found the door open. Dedeaux and someone else were seen asleep at that time, according to the affidavit. She was subsequently arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
