This announcement follows EA's earlier confirmation at the start of the year that a new Battlefield title was in development. EA confirmed the new game will indeed be named "Battlefield 6" via the official Battlefield social media account. No further details about the game itself have been provided at this time. The game is expected to be available in two editions: Standard and Phantom. The Phantom Edition , a digital-only deluxe version, may include extra in-game content but does not offer early access. EA may allow players with the Standard Edition to later upgrade by purchasing the 'Phantom Pack.' An open beta is also reportedly planned for August. The report also claims that Battlefield 6 will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with pricing varying by platform. The Standard Edition may be priced at €69.99 for PC and €79.99 for consoles, while the Phantom Edition costs €99.99 on PC and €109.99 on consoles, respectively. Players may also be able to upgrade to the Phantom Edition for €29.99. However, a version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 has not been confirmed. Pre-orders are expected to begin on July 31.

Essentially, there are passive, class-specific traits, while certain classes will gain a class perk when using a weapon typically associated with that class – though anyone can use it. For instance, a Recon class player wielding a sniper rifle will be able to hold their breath (and stabilise their aim) for longer than an Assault class player using the same rifle. Despite players expressing their disapproval in the comments, it appears this overhauled class system will feature in the Battlefield 6 open beta. As for the open beta's launch date, the EA App disclosed the build date as Monday, August 4 (via Reddit), so we might see it go live sometime in August.
