Photos: Thunderbirds fill sky at Beale AFB as base holds first airshow in years

The roar of the Thunderbirds filled the sky Saturday over Beale Air Force Base, long known for the more clandestine surveillance and recon missions of the U.S. Air Force. The Air & Space Expo is Beale's first air show in seven years. It concludes Sunday. In addition to the Air Force's premier demonstration team, the show also features the U-2 Dragon Lady and the T-38 Talon — planes based at Beale — along with aerial exhibitions that include the MV-22 Osprey, the U.S. Navy F-18 Rhino Demo Team, and a KC-135 Stratotanker. On the ground, the show features displays of the new collaborative combat aircraft that were recently assigned to the base. Admission to the event is free The final day of the show opens Sunday at 9 a.m., with aerial performances beginning around noon and concluding at 4 p.m. Attendees must be in line to park by 1:30 p.m., when the gates close.

Rochester community unites in support as search for missing 5-year-old continues

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The search for 5-year-old Zy'Jae St. Pierre continued along the Genesee River for a fifth day Thursday. The young boy fell from the Andrews Street bridge Sunday afternoon, according to Rochester police. Earlier this week, police deemed their efforts a recovery mission. Search efforts continue for 5-year-old who fell in the Genesee River, declared 'recovery operation' In an update Thursday afternoon, the Rochester Police Department shared they were still unable to locate St. Pierre despite ongoing efforts. The department credited assistance from RG&E in helping to control and redirect the river during the search, including lowering the water level between the Andrews St. bridge and High Falls. Police say St. Pierre was walking with his mother, who was pushing another child in a stroller, when he ran ahead of her. Witnesses said he climbed the railing, and before his mother could reach him, he fell over. Police say she ran along the waterway and was unable to reach the boy before he left her sight. Balloons, candles, and toys now line the span of the bridge. News 8's Natalie Kucko spoke to community members there, who are continuing to show their support for the family. 'They were very happy. It was a very happy family. He used to go outside and play, things like that. He was a very good little boy. Good memories. It's devastating,' said Nichelle Beale, a former neighbor of the family. 'I want him to be found and I want justice. I want the family to be at peace, and to know where he is and not to wonder every night.' Outside Rochester City Hall Thursday, community members shared a call on the city in the wake of this tragedy. 'We're calling for the city of Rochester to put up a higher gate on not just that bridge, but any bridge, whether it's over water, or a highway. We want to prevent this tragedy from every happening again to any family. There's no words to express what they're going through,' said Marquita Ladd, a Rochester resident. News 8 spoke with Rochester Mayor Malik Evans for his response to those concerns. 'I think it's admirable the community is concerned about families' safety and that's what this is about — and we'll go back and look to see if there's anything that can be done from preventing a tragedy in the future. Right now, the focus is to make sure the family has what they need. But more importantly, the recovery is what we're focusing on right now and we will continue to be focused on that until we get some closure for this family,' said Evans. At this time, community members like Beale continue to visit Andrews Street to reflect. 'It hurts. Because if it was my child, I'd be hurt, too. I wouldn't know what to do,' Beale said, 'Embrace your kids every day and let them know you love them every day.' The Rochester Police Department plans to resume search efforts Friday morning. The department continues to ask for awareness from local boaters and fishermen in an effort to locate St. Pierre. Two GoFundMe accounts have been created to assist the family during this time. Judge's update on mushroom cook's trial

The Supreme Court judge overseeing Erin Patterson's triple-murder trial has given jurors an update on what to expect in the coming weeks. Addressing the 14-person panel about midday on Thursday, Justice Christopher Beale told jurors the trial length had 'probably been on your minds'. Justice Beale said at the start of Ms Patterson's trial six weeks ago he'd given jurors an estimate of six weeks and, while he would not provide an updated time frame, he would summarise 'how things will play out from here on'. 'It's likely that Ms Patterson will be in the witness box for the rest of the week and probably into early next week,' he said. 'After she has completed giving evidence, it will be necessary, or the law requires it for me to have some legal discussions with the parties. 'And those discussions could take a couple of days.' Justice Beale said this could see out the hearings next week, which will be a day short due to the King's Birthday public holiday in Victoria. Erin Patterson has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Supplied. Credit: Supplied Justice Beale said the discussion would include whether there is to be any more evidence in the case and what directions of the law would be necessary for him to give at the end of the trial. After all evidence had been adduced, the judge said the prosecution and defence would deliver their closing addresses which could take a couple of days. 'And then my final directions to you, which involves three parts: giving you directions about legal principles that apply in this case, which takes quite a bit of time; identifying for you the key issues in the case and summarising for you the evidence and arguments in relation to those issues; that also takes a fair time,' Justice Beale said. 'So I haven't put a figure on it, but I have tried to put you in the picture as to how this is going to play out and it may be necessary for you to make some arrangements.' Don and Gail Patterson died a day apart in early August 2023. Supplied Credit: Supplied Gail's sister Heather Wilkinson also died while her husband, Korumburra pastor Ian Wilkinson, survived. Ms Patterson is facing trial after pleading not guilty to the murder of her husband's parents and aunt, and the attempted murder of his uncle. Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister, Heather Wilkinson, died in hospital in the week after eating a beef wellington lunch at Ms Patterson's home on July 29, 2023. Heather's husband, Ian Wilkinson, survived after spending about a month and a half in hospital. Prosecutors allege the accused woman deliberately spiked the lunch with death cap mushrooms. Her defence accepts there were death cap mushrooms in the meal but argues she did not intentionally poison anyone and the case is a 'tragic accident'. The trial continues.

Why Shares of Nebius Group Are Soaring This Week

Nebius successfully raised $1 billion through convertible notes earlier this week. The new capital will help the company accelerate growth. A Wall Street analyst initiated coverage on the company with a very bullish price target. 10 stocks we like better than Nebius Group › Since last Friday, shares of the artificial intelligence (AI) data center company Nebius Group (NASDAQ: NBIS) had soared roughly 29%, as of 11:57 a.m. ET Thursday. The company successfully raised capital this week and received more positive sentiment from Wall Street. On Monday, Nebius announced that it had successfully raised $1 billion through two different tranches of unsecured convertible notes. Half is in the form of 2% convertible notes due 2029, while the other half is 3% convertible notes due 2031. Nebius' founder and CEO Arkady Volozh said in a statement: Since our $700 million equity financing in December 2024, we have been scaling rapidly and expanding our global AI infrastructure footprint. The fresh capital we are raising now gives us more firepower to go faster, paving the way for increased revenue opportunities in 2026 and further accelerating us toward our medium-term target of mid-single-digit billions of dollars in revenue as a high-margin business, with potential upside. This morning, Arete Securities analyst Andrew Beale initiated coverage of Nebius with a buy rating and $84 price target, implying significant upside from current levels. Beale also said he prefers Nebius to another larger and similar company, CoreWeave, due to Nebius' more attractive valuation. While CoreWeave is more of a pure play on AI, Beale thinks Nebius' neo-cloud valuation is too low. Nebius and CoreWeave are essentially in the business of running data centers for customers looking to build and run AI applications on, so if the AI industry continues to thrive, these two companies stand to benefit. While I believe in AI's potential, I usually stay away from most AI stocks because of extremely high valuations. Nebius, however, actually came to the market last year at a very affordable valuation. The company had been delisted from the Nasdaq for close to three years due to being a Russian-owned company, although this is no longer the case. After the stock's big run, the company trades at close to an $11 billion market cap, so it's more expensive than it once was. However, if management can hit its mid-single-digit billions revenue guidance over the next few years, the stock won't look expensive at today's value.
