Ron Howard Gets Some Hate After Giving ‘Cowardly' Responses To Questions About JD Vance

Director Ron Howard seems to want to think about anything other than politics — especially when it comes to Vice President JD Vance. In an interview published Wednesday, Vulture asked the filmmaker what he thinks about the legacy of his 2020 film, 'Hillbilly Elegy.' 'I don't think about it,' Howard said. 'I know it's a mixed bag and probably quite culturally divided. I also know that reviews were bad and the audience-reaction rating was pretty good.' 'Hillbilly Elegy' is based on Vance's best-selling 2016 memoir of the same name, which propelled him to national fame. Howard worked with the then-venture capitalist on the movie and spent time with him while they were promoting the film. Despite Howard's rather neutral response about his film, Vulture continued to press the topic of Vance, asking the director if he's 'able to reconcile the person you knew and the character in the movie with the person you see now?' 'Am I able to reconcile? Well, it's happened, so I know what I've observed,' Howard said. 'It remains a bit of a surprise to me. I would not have seen it coming, and I wouldn't have expected his rhetoric to be as divisive as it sometimes is. By the way, I'm not following him or listening to every word.' The 'Frost/Nixon' director's implication that he tunes out politics — or at least, Vance — to some degree seemed to irk a few people on X, formerly Twitter — considering Vance is now President Donald Trump's vice president. 'May we all have the luxury of non-thought!' one user said. 'Sorry Ron, but you can no longer sit on the fence in these times,' another said. 'this is such a cowardly answer,' a third echoed. The consequences of Trump's policies — which range from weak jobs numbers to forced disappearances — have trickled into Howard's own industry. CBS suspiciously canceled the 'Late Show' last month after host Stephen Colbert criticized parent company Paramount's recent settlement with Trump. The president has publicly threatened others in the entertainment business, including but not limited to Joy Behar, Jimmy Kimmel and Beyoncé. Howard did, however, offer Vulture a few tidbits about Vance that have nothing to do with the policies he's helping to peddle. Vance was indeed 'frustrated' by critics panning 'Hillbilly Elegy,' the director confirmed. 'He felt that, just as reviews had kind of turned on the book, his involvement was in some way tainting or coloring the critical response, and he resented it,' Howard said. The 'Beautiful Mind' director also admitted that Vance's 'run for Senate and the strategy he's chosen to follow' are not what he expected. Howard revealed that he did text Vance shortly after the 2024 presidential election. 'I did one text, after the election,' Howard said. 'Which was just sort of 'Godspeed. Try to serve us well.'' Rod Wave's attorney says he's a burglary victim as rapper faces 14 criminal charges

Rapper Rod Wave, whose legal name is Rodarius Marcell Green, was charged in connection to an alleged April incident that his lawyers say started with a break-in at his Georgia home. Green, 26, faces 14 criminal charges, including aggravated assault and firearms violations, following the alleged events that unfolded at his residence on April 21. Through his lawyer, he denies any wrongdoing. Police responded to Green's home after receiving reports of a domestic dispute around 9:30 p.m. Witnesses said they heard yelling and screaming from outside the residence, Milton Police department said. On arrival, officers say they found Manariah Andrews, 22, a former contestant on 'The Rap Game' and known on social media as Mini Barbie, crying outside the residence. According to police, Andrews reported returning home at 9 p.m. to find the house where she and Green live burglarized. Officers confirmed the break-in, saying they discovered an emptied safe that had been dragged across the basement floor. A handgun was also recovered from the scene, police said. Police say Andrews informed officers that Green, who was away at the time, would return the following day. No injuries were reported in the incident. Green, whose three albums "SoulFly," "Beautiful Mind" and "Nostalgia" have all topped the Billboard 200 chart, turned himself in to the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. He was released on bond the same day. His attorney, Drew Findling, strongly maintains Green's innocence. "There is no truth to these charges. Rod Green was a victim of a burglary and committed no crimes," Findling stated. "How he was even charged as a result of this situation is incomprehensible. This will absolutely be resolved favorably for Mr. Green." The charges against Green include criminal damage to property, pointing a firearm at another person, reckless conduct, tampering with evidence, aggravated assault and more. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, according to police. Rod Wave's attorney says he's a burglary victim as rapper faces 14 criminal charges originally appeared on

K-pop guitar bands to hit the stage

OneWe, Xdinary Heroes and Day6 headed for international tours K-pop's guitar bands are thriving like never before, with concerts and tours being announced one after another. OneWe, a five-piece group known for its emotional melodies, kicked off its first North American tour on Sunday. Starting in Orlando, the band will perform in 20 cities across North America, including Washington, New York, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle and Vancouver. The Orlando and Boston shows have already sold out, showcasing the band's rising popularity overseas. After wrapping up the tour, OneWe will mark the finale with encore concerts in Seoul, June 14 and 15. Lucy is returning with a series of concerts following the release of its new album. The band will hold its seventh solo concert 'Wajangchang' from May 2 to 4 at HwaJeong Gymnasium at Korea University in Seoul. The concert shares its title with Lucy's sixth mini-album, which is set to be released on April 23. Fans will get to hear the album's tracks performed live for the first time, including the pre-release song 'Wakey Wakey.' Ahead of the concert, Lucy surprised about 1,500 fans with a busking event in northern Seoul on March 27. Unlike other bands, Lucy features a violinist — Shin Ye-chan — in its four-member lineup, earning love for its childlike musical style and whimsical lyrics. Since drummer Shin Gwang-il is currently serving in the military, a session drummer will fill in during the concert. Rock band Xdinary Heroes will launch its second world tour, 'Beautiful Mind,' with concerts from May 2-5 at Olympic Hall in Seoul. The show comes just over a year since the group wrapped up its first world tour, 'Break the Brake,' which started in November 2023 and stopped at 12 cities across Europe and Southeast Asia. This time, the sextet plans to visit 15 cities in Korea, Southeast Asia and the United States. The group released its sixth mini-album, 'Beautiful Mind,' on March 24, featuring a heavy rock title track and six other songs. Following the tour, Xdinary Heroes is also set to perform at the major US music festival Lollapalooza Chicago for the first time on July 31. Day6 will conclude its third world tour with a grand finale of six shows in Seoul on May 9–11 and 16–18. Day6's "Forever Young" world tour began Sept. 20, 2024, at Inspire Arena in Incheon and has included 45 shows in 23 cities across Asia, Oceania and North America. Starting with its 2015 debut concert at a venue that held about 1,000 people, Day6 has grown steadily. In 2024, it drew 30,000 fans over three days at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul and later performed for 40,000 fans at Inspire Arena. In December, the band became the first K-pop guitar band to perform at Gocheok Sky Dome. Now, in its 10th year, Day6 will take the stage at KSPO Dome, one of Seoul's most iconic performance venues. Though its capacity is slightly smaller than Gocheok Sky Dome, with around 15,000 seats per show, Day6 plans to meet a total of over 90,000 fans over six performances.
