Terri J. Vaughn Stars In ‘Tyler Perry's She The People' Comedy Series

Terri J. Vaughn is ready for her political career, or so she thought, as the star of Tyler Perry's She the People. In her latest role, the actress brings to life Antoinette Dunkerson, who, after running a successful campaign for lieutenant governor, must figure out, 'how to thrive under a sexist and condescending governor, while attempting to keep her family in line now that they're all in the public eye.' The first eight episodes of the series are set to premiere on Netflix on May 22, 2025, with the second half due to be released on Aug. 14. Alongside Vaughn, the comedy stars Jo Marie Payton, Jade Novah, Drew Olivia Tillman, Tré Boyd, and Dyon Brooks. Tyler Perry's She the People is created by the acclaimed filmmaker who also serves as writer, director, and producer. Niya Palmer is co-creator of the series with Perry. Additionally, Palmer, former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and Vaughn executive produce. Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland will also produce for Tyler Perry Studios. The series is one of several projects that Perry currently has in the works at the streamer. As the hit drama Beauty in Black continues to play out, both original series and new movies are set to come from the 55-year-old. Fans of Perry's work can also expect Madea's Destination Wedding, Straw starring Taraji P. Henson, and the faith-based film R&B later this year. Also, last month, the Louisiana native announced the Dream Collective program to help empower the next generation of filmmakers from marginalized communities. Liz Garbus Ties ‘Lost Girls' to Arrested Suspect in ‘Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer' Trailer

Lost Girls director Liz Garbus returns to focus on a corrupt criminal system and crime victims and their families seeking justice in the trailer for Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer, which bows on Netflix March 31. The 2020 Lost Girls movie for Netflix that starred Amy Ryan centered on a mother searching for her missing daughter in Long Island and who makes a horrifying discovery in the woods where the murdered bodies of four girls had been dumped. 'There were red flags, one after the other, as to what was not looked into by the police,' one commentator says in the trailer for Gone Girls, a three-party documentary series. But that changed in 2023 when, after a 13-year search, the Suffolk County police arrested a Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect, Rex Heuermann. Now Lost Girls, a drama about the hunt for a serial rapist, has been followed up with Gone Girls, a doc series about a botched investigation into a serial killer at long last arrested and facing criminal justice. Emmy-winning director Garbus retraces the twists and turns in a case that is now winding its way through the courts after Heurermann pleaded not guilty to allegedly killing seven women, but has yet to go on trial and may face added charges as more victims are potentially uncovered. Garbus, who directs and executive produces the series, in a Q&A from Netflix explains her journey with the Long Island serial killer case: 'Lost Girls really told that story. We revisit the same case in Gone Girls. Why? Because thanks to a new regime in Suffolk County, we now have the answers the families were looking for over a decade. We got to explore what was going on in the police department and uncover a corruption scandal that made it clear why so little was being done for these women. I think it's a really powerful companion piece to the scripted film.' Gone Girls: The Long Island Serial Killer from Story Syndicate is also executive produced by Dan Cogan, Anne Carey, Jon Bardin, Mala Chapple, Elizabeth Wolfe and Kate Barry. Joshua Levine is producing. The Perfect Couple May Become Netflix Anthology, With Season 2 Based on Erin Hilderbrand's Swan Song (Report)

It appears that Netflix is looking to stay in the Erin Hilderbrand business. Though the streaming giant is not commenting, sister site Deadline reports that The Perfect Couple — which was based on Hilderbrand's 2018 beach read of the same name and dropped its six-episode season in September 2024 — will continue as anthology series. The Perfect Couple followed Amelia Sacks (played by Bad Sisters' Eve Hewson), a woman who was about to marry into one of the wealthiest families on Nantucket. Her disapproving future mother-in-law, novelist Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), spared no expense in planning what promised to be the premiere wedding of the season — until a body turned up on the beach. Liev Schreiber co-starred as Tag Winbury, Greer's husband. In Swan Song, the grand finale of Hilderbrand's Nantucket novels, there's a new couple in town — Bill and Leslee Richardson — and they derail Chief of Police Ed Kapenash's plans to retire when their $22 million summer home burns to the ground, and their personal assistant goes missing. Deadline hears that preliminary casting has started for the roles of Leslee and Bill, but again, Netflix is not commenting on this anthology/Season 2 report.
