Paraglider in horror crash at Devon beauty spot as ambulances race to scene

Ambulances and police rushed to a popular costal path in Devon after a paraglider crashed on a cliff when her 'parachute collapsed' A paraglider terrifyingly crashed onto a cliff after her "parachute collapsed" while landing. ‌ Ambulances, police and other emergency crews rushed to the scenic Beer Head Coast Path in Devon on Friday afternoon following reports of the shocking incident. The female paraglider crash landed, falling the last 10ft after her chute collapsed according to the Beer Coastguard Rescue Team. She was transferred to an ambulance and then rushed to a hospital. ‌ The terrifying incident happened on the picturesque Beer Head Coast Path on the Devon coast, popular with walkers and tourists, DevonLive reports. It comes after a kitesurfer noticed a stick in ocean but then realised something was alive on the end. ‌ Sharing details of the incident, Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said it was "tasked to a female paragliding who had crasd landed falling the last 10 feet after her chute collapsed." They added: "She had landed on her back and was in a lot of pain. "Initial casualty care [was] provided by us until the paramedics arrived on scene. Lyme Regis Coastguard also tasked along with HART [Hazardous Area Response Team]. ‌ "Different extraction methods to get the casualty back to the ambulance were considered. It was decided to use the HART 6 wheeled polaris vehicle, this being the smoothest option. "The casualty was transferred to [an] ambulance for [the] onward journey to hospital. We wish her a speedy recovery." It comes after another paraglider and his pilot tragically plunged thousands of feet to their deaths after their parachute malfunctioned in a horror accident. The Brit had been in the Babadag paragliding spot in Fethiye, Turkey, and leaped from a 6,500ft mountain under the care of his pilot in April. ‌ Their parachute malfunctioned shortly after their 11.45am takeoff, Turkish media reported. A 22 and 29-year-old were sent plummeting on jagged rocks set along the mountainside. The two died at the scene after other paragliders raised the alarm, and flights in the area were cancelled following the distressing incident. Another person died after paragliding over a tourist hotspot in Tenerife in May. The tragic incident happened on May 31 at around 3.28pm at the natural pools of Puerto de la Cruz. Emergency services including firefighters, maritime rescue, local and national police rushed to the scene. A rescue helicopter was also dispatched to the scene. The alarm was raised when the Emergency and Security Coordination Centre received an alert from a lifeguard reporting the fall of a paraglider into the water. The victim was picked up by the GES (General Emergency Medical Services) and was taken to the Puerto de la Cruz pier esplanade, where he was sadly pronounced dead.

Miracle man survives iron stake plunging through body millimetres from heart

A man who was skewered through the heart in a tragic workplace incident after falling through a giant metal pole has somehow made a recovery after being cut free from the spike Despite having an iron stake pierce through his chest - from one side to the other - one man escaped death after a horror accident at work. ‌ It was a regular day for Assalam Alekium when he went to work on his construction site in Dagestan, Russia, until the 24-year-old lost his balance, falling through a giant iron rod that pierced straight through his chest, skewering him in what was set to be a gruesome and fatal incident. With the metal stake piercing through his back and missing his heart by just a few millimetres, in the first miracle, it managed to avoid any major organs - not killing him instantly. ‌ Doctors from the local hospital soon arrived at the scene, where a team worked using grinders to cut through the metal that was secured to the ground, allowing him to be carefully moved off the building site for some proper care. It comes after a schoolboy, 13, has both legs amputated after 'getting cramp' at sports camp. ‌ ‌ Speaking about the shocking incident, the local health ministry said: 'One of the [metal rods] went right through the man's chest, which, having penetrated from the back on the left, came out in the front on the right. The wound channel ran through the projection of vital organs and structures.' Once at the hospital, Assalam went straight into surgery, where they opened up his chest and attempted to pull out the rod. A spokesperson for the ministry added: 'The patient underwent emergency surgery. A wide opening of the chest was performed, the integrity of vital organs and structures was restored, internal bleeding was stopped. Surgical treatment of the affected bones and soft tissues was performed.' ‌ But in his second miracle, the 24-year-old's surgery was successful, with doctors managing to remove the sharp instrument and stop the bleeding, with his recovery beginning soon after. Still in the hospital, the builder is 'confidently recovering and preparing for discharge' and should soon be back at home with just a few scars. ‌ Dubbed 'the miracle man', Assalam said: 'I feel good. Thanks to all the doctors. They helped me a lot, they gave me [life].' The news in Russia comes shortly after a miracle escape on British soil when a man survived a 200ft fall at a popular Devon beach. The lucky walker who plummeted from the top of Haven Cliffs near Sidmouth somehow managed to walk away from the distressing experience with nothing more than a stern talking to. Having become stuck but uninjured after the fall, a HM coastguard helicopter had to come to the rescue to airlift him free. Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said he was then "allowed to go on his way" when he was rescued, with his calls for help having been heard by local kayakers.

Lucky man survives 200ft fall at nudist beach but gets telling off from police

The lucky walker was dropped off and allowed to 'go on his way' after plummeting 60 metres from the top of Haven Cliffs near Sidmouth, in Devon, and onto a naturalist beach below A lucky walker who plummeted more than 200 ft onto a nudist beach walked away from the distressing experience with nothing more than a stern talking to. The unnamed man was walking atop the Haven Cliffs near Sidmouth, in Devon, when he plummeted more than 200 feet onto a nearby beach. He raised the alarm soon after by shouting for help, with a massive emergency response including police, a lifeboat and rescue helicopter being scrambled to his aid. But he was found miraculously unscathed on a beach popular with naturalists known for its unsettled geography, and speedily airlifted from the area. ‌ ‌ The man was spoken to by police after he had been lifted to safety, with a spokesperson for the Beer Coastguard Rescue Team saying he was then "allowed to go on his way" when he was rescued, with his calls for help having been heard by local kayakers. He had fallen on a recent large landslide which had carved an indent on the cliff face three months ago, and was dropped off back on top of the ledge where he had fallen. The spokesperson said: "We were tasked to a person fallen 60 metres from cliff top onto the recent landslide below Axecliff golf course. Sidmouth lifeboat gave directions for us to get directly above the casualty and coastguard teams set up a rope rescue system while the helicopter was en route in case they could not recover the casualty from the air. "Thankfully the helicopter was able to recover the uninjured man to the clifftop. He was spoken to by the police and taken to Lyme Regis and allowed to go on his way." A Lyme Regis coastguard spokesperson said emergency services were called when kayakers raised the alarm, having heard his calls for help. They said: "Coastguard teams from Lyme Regis and Beer were tasked following reports from two kayakers who, while east of the Axmouth estuary, heard cries for help from the adjacent cliffs. ‌ "The kayakers' prompt and appropriate action in contacting HM Coastguard initiated a multi-agency response to assess the reported distress. "Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat, undergoing training exercises nearby, was immediately redeployed to the kayakers' position. Their crew successfully confirmed the source of concern and commenced a sea-based shoreline search of the area. Following a brief but effective search, Sidmouth Lifeboat guided the Beer and Lyme Regis rope rescue teams to the precise cliff-top location, around 60 meters above the casualties location. "While a rope rescue system was prepared for deployment, the inherent instability of the cliffs and the associated risk of further rockfalls necessitated a re-evaluation of the extraction method to ensure optimal safety." ‌ "As a precaution coastguard helicopter Rescue 187 was dispatched to the scene. The helicopter crew performed a delicate winch operation, safely recovering the casualty from the cliff face and transferring them into the aircraft. This incident underscores the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in complex rescue scenarios." Locals were stunned the man was uninjured, with Daisy Atkin telling Jam Press someone was "looking out for him". She said: "Uninjured after a 60 metre fall. Someone is looking out for him." Fiona Gripton said: "We are lucky to have all these people putting their lives at risk to help others. Well done and thank you." And Susan Gardner added: "Well done, always there when needed." The area is a hotspot for erosion and cliff falls. In March, another walker was seen sitting beneath the perilous cliff just moments after thousands of rocks plunged onto the beach. Local coastguard organisations have warned people to avoid the area.
