Noida daycare horror: Attendant ‘slaps and bites' 15-month-old toddler, ‘bashes head into wall'
A teenage attendant and the owner of a daycare centre at a residential complex in Noida's Sector 137 have been arrested after the parents of a 15-month-old toddler accused the former of allegedly assaulting and biting their child. CCTV footage from the daycare centre surfaced on social media, in which the attendant is seen repeatedly slapping, hitting and throwing the child on the floor as she cries in pain. In the 10-minute-28-second video, the attendant holds the toddler in her arms and shuts the door of a room in the centre. The attendant is then seen picking up a green plastic bat from the floor with her foot and hitting the toddler's head multiple times. She then walks around the dimly-lit room, hitting the toddler's head against the wall and later throwing her on the floor. The parents later noticed the marks on the child's body and rushed her to a doctor. In her complaint to the police on August 7, the mother said her child goes to the daycare centre for two hours every day. On August 4, when she brought her child from the centre, she was crying. 'I was changing her clothes when I saw bite marks on both her thighs. I rushed her to the doctor, who said it was a bite mark,' the woman said in her complaint. 'To find out what happened, I went to the daycare centre and asked them to show me the CCTV footage. I saw the attendant slapping my child, throwing her on the floor, and hitting her with a plastic bat. It was the attendant who bit her on her thighs,' alleged the mother to the police. She said that despite her daughter's frantic cries, the daycare owner did not intervene. The complaint further alleged that when the mother confronted the owner and attendant, they misbehaved with her and issued threats. The Noida Police has registered an FIR against the two under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of peace) of the BNS. Speaking to The Indian Express, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vir Kumar, said they had taken both women into custody on the same day the FIR was filed. 'They were arrested, but since it was a bailable offence, they filed a bond. The girl who was assaulting the child was a minor and had joined the daycare only 10 days earlier,' he said. 'The toddler underwent a medical examination to assess her injuries,' said the ACP.. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. Days after his release, Sambhal mosque panel chief booked for ‘celebratory rally'
A CASE was registered on Wednesday against the chairman of the Shahi Jama Masjid Management Committee, Zafar Ali, and around 60 others for allegedly taking out a celebratory procession in Sambhal following his release from jail, police said on Wednesday. The move comes days after Ali was released after spending four months and 13 days at the Moradabad jail. He was earlier arrested after the police accused him of playing a role in inciting the violence in Sambhal in November last year. Four civilians were killed in firing as the police confronted the protesters and 29 police personnel were also injured. The violence erupted during a court-mandated survey of the Mughal-era mosque in Sambhal town. Ali is also the main lawyer representing the Shahi Jama Mosque committee. A day after the violence, Ali had alleged during a press conference on November 25 last year that the deaths happened as a result of police firing. Ali was released on bail around 9:30 am on August 1 and as soon as he came out, a group of around 60 supporters were waiting for him to celebrate his release. A video of the purported celebration surfaced on social media. According to the police, the case was filed at Sambhal Kotwali police station on the basis of a complaint by a sub-inspector, Ashish Tomar. 'As per information provided by Tomar, we learnt that around 9:30 am on Friday, Zafar Ali, three advocates, Sarfaraz, Tahir, Haider, along with 50-60 unidentified supporters, allegedly violated the prohibitory orders given by the public servant concerned. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Sambhal, Alok Kumar, said an FIR was registered against Zafar Ali and around 60 unidentified individuals under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). 'An investigation is underway,' he said. 'They organised a 40-km-long roadshow from Moradabad to Sambhal on August 1 to mark Ali's release,' said Kumar. ‘Thought we won't be poor anymore': Noida man's account credited with Rs 1 billion 13 lakh crore due to app glitch, then frozen
It was just another Sunday. Dileep Singh (20), a Class 12 dropout from Noida, decided it was time for a change. He had been using his old phone for some time, and was finally switching to a new one. He carefully transferred his SIM card into the new device, ready to set it up. But things didn't go as smoothly as expected. Once the device was on, his mobile data wasn't working. He quickly recharged his phone, reinstalled all his applications, and started logging into each of them. Then came the moment that changed everything. He opened a digital finance app. As the interface loaded and his account balance appeared, Dileep blinked in disbelief. The number on his screen didn't seem real. 'I couldn't believe it,' he said. 'It was an amount with 37 digits. The balance read: Rs 10,01,35,60,00,00,00,00,00,01,00,23,56,00,00,00,00,299. (1 billion, 13 lakh and 55 thousand crore)'. The astronomical sum meant he was richer than Forbes billionaires. 'For a few seconds, I thought, I was dreaming. Then, I informed my grandmother about it,' he said. Dileep lost his mother two months ago and his father 10 years ago. After losing his parents, he had been staying with her maternal grandmother, Maya Devi (65). 'I asked him to transfer some money from his account to someone and check. I was so happy. I thought we will not be poor anymore,' Maya Devi told The Indian Express. When he attempted to transfer the money, he could not. 'There was a message instead. Message mein tha ki koi technical issue hai bank se (The message said that there was a technical issue with the bank). After I tried transferring again, my account was frozen,' he said. Deepak said he was told by the bank that his account was frozen for a probe. According to the officers of Dankaur Police Station, a technical glitch in the digital finance app appears to have caused the app to erroneously display such an inflated account balance. 'This was likely due to a bug and only appeared within the app. Upon logging into his account through another application, Deepak's current balance showed to be zero. Further, an official bank statement was obtained via email, which also confirmed no account balance like before,' said the officer. When contacted, Station House Officer Munendra Singh confirmed that it was a bug that caused the confusion. 'We verified the claims. There is no amount in his account. We have not received any complaint from the consumer and therefore are not taking any legal action,' he said. Meanwhile, Deepak said that he had visited the bank and officials told him that his account will be recovered in two to three working days. Neetika Jha is a Correspondent with The Indian Express. UP: Five convicted of killing SHO in 2018 Siyana mob violence
Nearly seven years after Station House Officer (SHO) Subodh Kumar Singh was killed in a mob violence over cow slaughter protests in Bulandshahr's Siyana area of Uttar Pradesh, a local court on Monday convicted five persons of murder. Thirty-three others were convicted of attempt to murder and rioting. The sentencing will take place on August 1. According to prosecution lawyer Yashpal Singh, police had filed chargesheet against 44 people. 'Five of them died during the trial and one was a juvenile whose case is pending in a juvenile court. Among others, 38 have been pronounced guilty under several sections and taken into judicial custody,' he said. The five who have been convicted of murder are Prashant Nat, David, Rahul, Johnny, and Lokendra aka Lokendra Mama – all residents of Chingravathi village, where the violence took place. On December 3, 2018, villagers from Mahav and surrounding areas claimed to have found a cow carcass in fields. Protesting against cow slaughter, around 50-60 villagers put the carcass on a tractor-trolley and blocked the highway outside the Chingravati police outpost. As SHO Subodh Kumar Singh reached the spot, the mob began to pelt stones and set the local police outpost on fire. Eyewitnesses and police officials said that as the policemen tried to flee, they were attacked with stones and firearms. Subodh Singh sustained a gunshot wound and was left behind as the officers fled for their lives. 'We tried to carry Subodh sir's body, but the situation was too dangerous,' Ram Ashray, the driver of the police vehicle, had told The Indian Express. SHO Singh died of gunshot injuries. A local youth, Sumit Kumar (20), also died in the violence. Following the incident, the Bulandshahr police registered an FIR based on the complaint of officer Subhash Chandra, who was present during the incident, and named 27 individuals and 50-60 unidentified individuals. Following the investigation, charges were framed against 44 individuals. The police had also registered a separate cow slaughter case against 10 individuals. Travelling for work today? Avoid these routes in Noida and Greater Noida
The Traffic Police of Gautam Buddha Nagar has issued an advisory ahead of a major farmers' protest scheduled for Wednesday in parts of Noida and Greater Noida, said officials on Tuesday. According to the police, the protest will be organised by the United Farmers' Front. It will include plans for a dharna, demonstration, and a mahapanchayat across multiple high-traffic locations in the district, disrupting the traffic. In anticipation of the large gathering for the protest, traffic movement is expected to be diverted or regulated temporarily in several key areas. These include: 'The traffic police have assured that emergency vehicles will be given safe passage and will not be affected by the diversions. 'Commuters are advised to avoid these areas and make use of alternate routes to minimize inconvenience. For any traffic-related queries or assistance, the public can reach out to the Traffic Helpline at 9971009001,' said officials issuing a helpline number. Talking to The Indian Express, the Youth President of Bharatiya Kisan Parishad, Atul Yadav alleged that the government, despite making several promises to the farmers during the process of land acquisition, has not fulfilled any of them. 'Our demands are still the same,' he said. The farmers are protesting to demand that 10 per cent of the developed land be allocated back to them. In case of residential and commercial land, they are seeking a 64.7 per cent rise in compensation rates to match inflation rates. Noida witnessed a similar protest in December last year, which resulted in 150 farmers being detained after they had blocked the Noida Expressway near Dalit Prerna Sthal. 'The authorities had formed a committee to look into the demands, but nothing had moved from there,' alleged Yadav. The Uttar Pradesh government on December 5 had formed a committee, headed by principal secretary (industries and infrastructure department) Anil Sagar, to look into the protesters' demands related to land compensation and rehabilitation facilities.
