The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 Are Nearly Free on PS5, Play the Story That Goes Beyond the HBO Series
The latest PS5 remake and remaster of the game series that kicked off HBO's biggest ongoing series is on sale for over 50% off. HBO's prestige drama The Last of Us pits Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie Williams) against the American wasteland of infected fungal monsters and the even more dangerous people out there trying to survive them. If you haven't already heard, The Last of Us is based on a video game series of the same name. And those games are on sale over at Amazon for just $30 (-57%) a piece. The PlayStation 5 version of The Last of Us Part 1 is the breathtakingly gorgeous remake we got in 2022 of the original 2013 game. Additionally, the recently remastered edition of The Last of Us Part 2 which adds new modes and improved graphical fidelity is also down to $30 (-40%). See The Last of Us Part 1 at Amazon See The Last of Us Part 2 at Amazon Now as a fan of the games with Part 2 being one of my all-time favorites, I am enjoying my time with the show—to an extent. Ultimately HBO's version has left me feeling underwhelmed due to a lot of the changes made to adapt this Americana tale of grief in an unforgiving world for general television audiences. Without spoiling, some things that get lost are hard to replicate with actors on camera as being in control changes your relationship to the characters. Stuff like that is inevitable when adapting from one medium to another. Other tweaks to the story feel like they come from a lack of confidence in the source material. Showrunner Craig Mazin has spoken extensively on some of the changes you see between the games and his version. This problem becomes even worse in season 2 as the series plot jumps into the sequel. Endure and Survive (the Online Discourse) Now it's a tale as old as time for someone to say 'the source material is better,' but that's a cliche for a good reason. Regardless of if you're really enjoying the series or if you find yourself frustrated with the show, but have not played the games, let this be your opportunity to hop in. Even if you are new to gaming and haven't experienced a shooter before, both The Last of Us games on PS5 make for a great starting point. The developer Naughty Dog included a slew of welcomed accessibility options and difficulty controls to help cater to your level of skill. These can help with navigation, adjust the number of resources you'll find, and mess around with the damage you can both take and dish out to extremely precise degrees. Now is a great time to get into the games. The show is barely even halfway through Part 2 following Season 2's finale so you can be all caught up before it returns to HBO in 2027. The Last of Us Part 1 and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered are each available for just $30. See The Last of Us Part 1 at Amazon See The Last of Us Part 2 at Amazon

Bella Ramsey Wants ‘The Last of Us' Fans to Watch Upcoming Indie Films Like They're ‘Game of Thrones'
'The Last of Us' Season 2 went out with a bang, but star Bella Ramsey wants fans thinking about their upcoming indie film projects as much as the eventual return of HBO's zombie apocalypse. Ramsey spoke positively to IndieWire about seeing themselves grow up on screen at the prestige network, having broken out at 13 years old playing the steely Lyanna Mormont for 'Game of Thrones.' Now, age 21, Ramsey is a globally recognized superstar who is ready to use their clout in other corners of the industry. 'I really hope that people will stick with me throughout stuff with 'The Last of Us' and beyond with all the little indie films I'm going to be doing as well,' Ramsey said. 'I hope that those will get as much love as amazing shows and franchises like 'The Last of Us' and 'Game of Thrones.' I feel very grateful for the support that I've had.' All in various stages of production, Ramsey has announced four upcoming film projects. Writer/director George Jacques' sophomore effort (following 2023's 'Black Dog') takes place at a summer camp for children impacted by cancer. It casts Ramsey as Ivy, an unwilling participant in remission, alongside a younger cast with Ruby Stokes, Quinn-Toye, Earl Cave, Conrad Khan, and Jasmine Elcock. Meanwhile, Carrie Coon and Lily James have joined Ramsey and co-star Odessa Young on the upcoming thriller, 'Harmonia.' Directed by Guy Nattiv, the production from Bleecker Street is expected to release in U.S. theaters sometimes in 2026. Set in the 1980s, the script was co-written by Nattiv and Noa Berman-Herzberg. The story follows sisters Ella (Ramsey) and Jo (Young) as they attempt to rescue their mother (Coon) from a mesmeric cult leader (James). This time last year, Ramsey was attached to star as the real Samantha Lewthwaite in 'The White Widow' from writer/director Bruce Goodison. Lewthwaite is the widow of the terrorist behind the 2005 London bombings, believed to be responsible for hundreds of deaths. BFI backed the film's development. In 2023, another fiction based in fact found Ramsey when filmmaker Romola Garai ('Atonement') tapped them to play Barbara Field in 'Monstrous Beauty.' The 17th-century period piece follows a playwright in the court of King Charles II, whose rare medical conditions leaves her covered in hair. Dominic West, Ruth Negga, and Fiona Shaw were also announced. Ramsey has repeatedly voiced their desire to be 'challenged' by new roles and is expected to return for 'The Last of Us' Season 3. The Last of Us S2 finale sees 55% drop in viewers, but S2 beats S1; the curious case of Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey show
The second season of The Last of Us came to an end with the finale this Sunday. The video game adaptation has managed to hold its own with the critics, but the TV viewership ratings are another matter. According to figures released by HBO (the platform airing the show internationally), The Last of Us S2 finale had 3.7 million viewers across platforms, which was a 30% drop from the S2 premiere and a staggering 55% drop from the S1 finale. Yet, overall, the second season has fared better than the first outing, which is curious. (Also read: Bella Ramsey becomes the 'most hated' star; all because they acted in a video game adaptation) The Last of Us season 2 peaked with its premiere in April, which brought in 5.3 million viewers in the first 24 hours. In comparison, the season finale on Sunday had 3.7 million viewers. The dip looks much bigger when taking into account that the season 1 finale in 2022 had 8.2 million viewers. However, Variety reports that while the viewership count is low on release day, the show is making up for it in the days and weeks to come. The Last of Us S2 is tallying 37 million viewers per episode as opposed to 32 million for S1. The fact that S2 will continue to accrue more viewers. The gap may just widen. Since season 1, The Last of Us has received polarising reactions. Many have praised the show's tone, its loyalty to the original video game's plot, and visualisation. The performances of the two leads - Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey - have been praised too. Yet, Bella has been subject to ugly trolling and hate online for 'not looking like' Ellie from the video game. In season 2, after Pedro's character, Joel, was killed off in episode 2, the trolling for Bella intensified. Many 'fans' of the show felt Bella could not carry the show herself, leading to intense backlash online. Kaitlyn Dever, the new entrant to the show this season, also faced opposition. While Bella was ridiculed for 'not being pretty enough', ironically, Kaitlyn's casting was called out as she was 'not as muscular and buff' as her character in the game. The internet rhetoric has certainly worked against the show in the short run, with fewer 'loyal fans' tuning in for the episodes on release day. However, the show continues to expand its viewer base with consistently good reviews. More new fans are discovering the show over time, leading to increased viewership as time passes. The Last of Us will return for a third season, and showrunner Craig Mazin says a fourth may also be possible. For the first time, Pedro Pascal will not be leading the show. So, it will be interesting to see how 'loyal fans' react, and how the internet trolls take it. The Last of Us is streaming in India on JioHotstar.

Why is Bella Ramsey getting so much hate online?
The second season of HBO's hit series The Last of Us wrapped up on Sunday with a dramatic finale. But in recent weeks, the show's star Bella Ramsey, who plays Ellie, has become the target of a significant amount of online criticism and ridicule. Worse, a lot of it has been specifically directed at their non-binary identity. Today on Commotion, culture reporter Kat Tenbarge explains how the online hate campaign against Bella Ramsey got so bad.

Harry Potter and the curse of fame: why I'm scared for the fresh batch of child stars like Arabella Stanton
Fandoms have also become increasingly powerful — and toxic. Adult fans have a lot of disposable income to spend on cinema tickets (which are expensive these days), merchandise, and theme parks. They also don't always behave well on the internet. Look at how Bella Ramsey is currently being treated by fans of The Last of Us video games. Or how the young stars of the Star Wars sequel trilogy were appallingly treated. Daisy Ridley had to quit Instagram over the harassment she faced, much of it sexist, while John Boyega was frequently the target of racial abuse. Fan is a truncation of fanatic, and in the febrile atmosphere of online platforms it doesn't take much to spark a torrent of hate at a public figure.
