Rian Johnson reveals future plans for more parts of the 'Knives Out' franchise, ahead of the third installment's release
Filmmaker Rian Johnson is talking about what the future holds for the Knives Out franchise, and it appears that Benoit Blanc fans will have more mysteries to ponder after the third installment. Johnson recently told Rolling Stone that he is excited to continue the murder mystery story and that the process continues to inspire him creatively. 'I feel great! Because I have genuinely taken a swing each time that I didn't think would work,' Johnson said. 'Ultimately, that's the thing you're trying to avoid. The second you feel like you know how to do this, that leads nowhere good.' Every Knives Out film is intended to be a novel and distinctive experience, Johnson underlined. 'With the movies, we can keep doing that,' he stated. 'I don't have something in my head right now. You kind of burn the ship into the sea each time and ask yourself, 'How will I make anything ever again?' But I would keep doing them as long as I can.' The franchise started with the critically and commercially successful films Knives Out in 2019 and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022. By the end of 2025, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery, the third movie, will be available on Netflix. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it legal? 'It's incredibly different,' he remarked. 'It's much more a Gothic, much more grounded tone. It's more similar to the first one in that way. It kind of gets back to the real origins of the genre, which, predating [Agatha] Christie, go back to [Edgar Allan] Poe.' The future of Knives Out appears bright—and mysterious—with Daniel Craig returning to his role as detective Benoit Blanc and Johnson still full of new ideas.

Latest Daniel Craig Knives Out movie Wake Up Dead Man will open London film festival
The latest Knives Out film in the popular sleuthing series starring Daniel Craig as private eye Benoit Blanc will open the 2025 London film festival, it has been announced. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery is the third in the series written and directed by Rian Johnson. Like its predecessors, it is inspired by Agatha Christie murder mysteries but in 2023 Johnson said of the film: 'The goal is to strike out in a completely new direction tonally and thematically'. While Craig is returning as Blanc, Johnson has assembled a new cast including Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin and Mila Kunis. No details of the film's plot have been revealed, though both O'Connor and Brolin appear to be playing priests. The subtitle Wake Up Dead Man is, like the previous Knives Out film, a reference to pop music. It is the title of a song by U2, in contrast to the Beatles' Glass Onion of the second film. Craig was reported to have received about $100m (£74m) for his appearances in Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man, with the rights to both films costing Netflix a combined $450m. The writing and development stage of the third film was delayed by the writers' strike in 2023, and it was shot in the UK in the summer of 2024. The London film festival screening is billed as an 'international' premiere, meaning the film is to have a world premiere in North America, most likely at the Toronto film festival in September. The London film festival runs from 8-19 October.

'I went to a Knives Out-inspired whodunnit dinner and was not expecting this'
If you take Cluedo a little too seriously, this immersive dinner could be the next best activity date for you. I went along to The Perfect Bite experience, with tantalising drama and a murder to be solved Ever fancied yourself as Sherlock Holmes or Benoit Blanc? Or maybe you watched the Knives Out films and thought you'd love to be involved in a whodunnit investigation? Either way, if you're looking to add a little more bite to your usual romantic dinner, The Perfect Bite could be the next best dinner date idea. The Perfect Bite - hosted at Gaucho, City of London - adds a tantalising twist to your standard meal, serving up an evening of entertainment while you enjoy your steak and chips. By attending this limited time event, you're signing yourself up to a delicious four-course meal but you'll have to work for it, as you attempt to solve a twist-filled murder mystery, led by detective Logan Locke. READ MORE: Daniel Craig looks unrecognisable as he steps out in Venice with wife Rachel Weisz I have to say I wasn't expecting the level of suspense while enjoying my meal. Couples were embroiled in full blow arguments, suspects had breakdowns as we questioned them over their involvement and double lives were exposed. I worked alongside three other guests to find clues between courses, and watch the drama unfold as suspects revealed their true colours as the plot thickened. The Perfect Bite serves as an ideal immersive experience for a group of friends or as an exciting change to your usual date night. I left Gaucho feeling fulfilled, not only had I enjoyed a tasty meal, but I'd also solved a murder and had a decent dose of drama to go and tell my friends about. The Perfect Bite is inspired by Netflix 's Knives Out, which is set for a third instalment. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery sees Daniel Craig reprising his role as the charming sleuth Benoit. Joining him is an A-list cast including Josh O'Connor (known for Challengers and The Crown), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus, Priscilla), Mila Kunis (Black Swan) and the legendary Glenn Close (Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmations). Jeremy Renner is also making a comeback to the franchise. Devotees will recall his stint as the mascot for a hot sauce brand in Glass Onion, but his character in Wake Up Dead Man is entirely unrelated. The latest instalment will hit the streaming service on December 12, 2025, but Craig admitted that he'd love for the movie to go into theatres. 'Hopefully, Netflix will push it out a bit, and people will get to see it. The people I speak to – the fans, I suppose – all they want to do is take their families and go see it at the cinemas. That's all they want to do. Hopefully we can give them that experience,' the former James Bond star told Variety. Netflix's first-look prompted reactions from fans, with one saying: "Let's go. Love Daniel Craig in this role," while another commented: "I'm just here for Benoit Blanc's Southern charm and all the chaos in between." Another film enthusiast predicted: "This mystery is shaping up to be the best one yet."
