Cameron Highlands police arrest man in public disturbance, investigate viral assault video

KUANTAN, May 30 — Police arrested a man for causing a public disturbance in the Centrum area of Brinchang, Cameron Highlands, on Wednesday. Cameron Highlands police chief Deputy Superintendent Azri Ramli said they received a call regarding the incident around 11 pm on May 28. 'Upon arriving at the scene, a 42-year-old man was found to be acting aggressively. Efforts to calm him down were unsuccessful and we had to use minimal force, in accordance with the standard operating procedures, to ensure the safety of the public and officers,' he said in a statement today. A background check revealed that the man had been reported missing in Bera since May 22, and preliminary investigations suggest that he is believed to be suffering from mental illness. 'After contacting his family, police brought him to the hospital for treatment, where he was confirmed to have mental illness. Following treatment, the man was handed over to his family and taken to Bera,' he added. Meanwhile, Azri said police are tracking down an individual believed to have punched the man in a video that has gone viral on social media. — Bernama

Medicaid cuts not the way to improve system: Rep. Bera

(NewsNation) — Despite President Donald Trump's demand to GOP lawmakers not to cut Medicaid when passing his 'big, beautiful bill,' a new Congressional Budget Office analysis paints a different picture. The CBO shows that the bill now proposes about $716 billion in cuts to Medicaid over the next 10 years, making it the largest cuts in the program's history and would lead to some 7.6 million people being left without health insurance. Judge scolds DOJ in dismissing ICE facility trespassing charge against Newark mayor California Rep. Ami Bera, a Democrat, joined 'NewsNation Now' on Wednesday to talk about the bill. He said the numbers coming from the CBO concerned him because of the number of people who would lose coverage. Some holdouts from the Republican Party have said there are not enough cuts being made to the program, which has been preventing the bill from being passed. Bera said he would be more than willing to work with his Republican colleagues to find solutions and improve Medicaid's efficiency, but large cuts are not the way to go. 'There's a lot we could do there to get better, affordable health care,' Bera said. 'This is not the way to go about doing it. It should be done in a bipartisan way.' The Gujarat Forest Department on Saturday began the 16th Asiatic Lion census, to be held in two phases, according to officials familiar with the census — the first field census since 2015 — will be carried out across 11 districts, covering approximately 35,000 square km and using the Direct Beat Verification (DBV) method, said the government statement. Confirming the development, Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera said, 'It is an auspicious beginning of the lion census. 'A total area of 35000 square km in 58 talukas will be covered by 735 counting units in 32 zones… This time, apart from the forest officials, volunteers and about 600 sarpanches have also joined the census,' Bera added.
