With their black-and-brown fur, Bernese mountain dogs have very distinctive markings that make them instantly recognizable. But one adorable pup, named Bauer, certainly stands out after losing his regular markings and developing an almost-entirely white fur coat instead. Bauer has vitiligo, an uncommon skin condition among humans and animals that causes skin to lose its natural pigmentation. The slideshow of images shows Bauer as a puppy with seemingly no signs of the condition. The next image shows him fully grown with minor white patches dotted around his face, which soon developed into a face covered in white fur. As the condition progressed, Bauer was left with a white face, white legs, and a trunk that is a mixture of black-and-white fur. By now, Bauer has lost almost all his pigmentation and is almost entirely white. Parts of his front legs still hold the rich brown color, but he has lost all of his usual markings. Indeed, his owner said that he's "not a Great Pyrenees," despite looking remarkably like one. Since the slideshow was shared online on May 13, it has gone viral with over 472,000 views and more than 64,000 likes on TikTok at the time of writing. There are two types of vitiligo: focal, which affects only one area; and generalized, which causes white patches across the body. Internet users can't get enough of Bauer's extraordinary appearance, which has led to almost 300 comments on the viral TikTok post. One comment reads: "Bro switched up, he's a Great Pyrenees now." Another TikTok user wrote: "Your Bernese identifies as a golden retriever." A third person posted: "He ran out of ink!" Millie the Bernese Mountain mix has one of those friends. Her neighbor and solid bestie, Lola the Golden Retriever, gave Millie a bit of a reality check after she got a little oversensitive over being denied a treat. In the TikTok from @manhattanmillie333, the two pals were having a playdate. It looked like some food — possibly cheese wedges — were brought out and Millie wanted a wedge for herself. When she didn't get one, the Bernese Mountain mix must have expressed her irritation. "My neighbor's dog just tried to console and calm my dog during a begging tantrum," the onscreen text explained as Lola gently put her paw on Millie while she displayed her disappointment. The gorgeous Golden even tried covering Millie's eyes with her paw, maybe thinking a darker room would provide some zen vibes. But Millie wasn't having it — she barked in protest. These two appear to hang out on a consistent basis, and apparently it's a two-way street when it comes to temper tantrums. A TikTok posted last year revealed that Lola had her own meltdown moment when she was over at Millie's for a visit. "My neighbor's Golden Retriever throws a tantrum whenever my dog has a toy that she wants," the onscreen text shared as Lola rolled around on the couch while Millie ran around with the coveted of the comments in this month's post were quite humorous, where followers guessed what they conversation may have been between the two furry friends. "No, listen, I'm telling you, listen. BE. COOL," one wrote. "Listen to me, this is not you, it's just the addiction, pull yourself together man"," another joked. "Come on - this is why they don't take us serious," a fan posted. She worried a puppy would disrupt Meisha's routine and that it wouldn't work out. However, she caved and the family welcomed home a Bernese Mountain dog. The result turned out better than she ever expected, as the puppy quickly stepped in to help Meisha. The family took Meisha and the puppy, Willow, on a walk in the May 9 TikTok video. Wanting to lend a helping paw, Willow picked up Meisha's leash with her mouth. She wanted to help her doggy sibling navigate around the fire hydrant, which she appeared to wrap herself around. The heartwarming moment is nothing new for this family. The owner told Newsweek via TikTok that Willow always tries to grab Meisha's dog leash. The pup will even pick up hers and attempt to walk herself. "Because she always keeps trying to get Meisha's leash, we had let them go to see what would happen, and we were amazed to see that happen," the owner said. "Meisha already does quite well walking, and she is more of an independent senior, so she doesn't always like it when Willow goes to grab her leash," she said. And yet, that hasn't stopped Willow. The owner added: "But Willow really, really wants to always take the leash, and sometimes we let it happen, but not all the time." Viewer Reactions As of Thursday, the TikTok clip amassed over 3.6 million views and 423,500 likes. People obsessed over the family getting Meisha her very own "guide dog." "Animals have the biggest hearts and widest set of smartness and emotional intelligence on this planet. This is funny and adorable at the same time," one viewer wrote. Another added: "Oh my God, how adorable and I'm sure your blind dog is teaching that puppy some stuff as well as that puppy is taking care of your dog.
