A salon with luxury treatment has been voted by the public as the best in the borough. Thomas Herbert in Wigan Road, Westhoughton, has won our Bolton's Best Hairdresser 2025 competition. The salon, which has been running for eight years, is Redken exclusive - a high-end hair products company. Owner Gemma Hulton has been a hairdresser for 20 years and opened the salon to showcase her own abilities and vision for innovative hairdressing. She said: "We would like to thank our loyal customers, who went just to take the time to vote for us. "We were surprised how many went out of their way to post their votes. "Lots mentioned how they had submitted their slips, it is really nice, especially as we didn't even ask them to do it. "We have really loyal customers from the eight years we have been here. "We have won an award before when we were in Bolton town centre, but I did not actually know about this one until we were in the final for it. We are made up." Woman who opened dream salon in lockdown is Best Hairdresser 2025 finalist
A HAIRDRESSER who took the plunge to open her dream salon during lockdown is today's hairdresser competing for the title of the Best Hairdresser 2025. Amy Louise Hairdressing is the sixth of ten finalists in the York Press Best Hairdresser contest. RECOMMENDED READING: The winner is set to be announced during the week of March 10 and each copy of The Press in the coming days will feature a short profile on each business and why it thinks it deserves to be voted number one in York. Amy Louise Hairdressing is run by Amy Taylor in Linton-on-Ouse. It offers colour, cutting, and hair services for men, women, and children. Amy said: 'My journey began with excellent training during my apprenticeship at Oasis in 2006, followed by a fantastic opportunity to hone my skills at Haircut One Hundred.' After five years at fellow finalist Haircut One Hundred, Amy transitioned to mobile hairdressing – a job that she spent nine years doing alongside raising her two sons. Some of Amy's work (Image: Provided) The decision to open a salon of her very own came during the lockdown when she finally took the plunge to make her dreams into reality – creating a intimate space to help clients relax as they receive their hair treatments. She said: 'I love and am incredibly grateful for my salon, Amy Louise Hairdressing, and my wonderful clients. The intimate and personalised setting I've created in Linton-on-Ouse allows me to build strong relationships with each client, and it's amazing to see how a great hairstyle can boost someone's confidence and mood. 'Many of my clients have been with me for years, and I truly value the relationships we've built. 'Five years on, I'm delighted to have been voted into the top 10 for the Best Hairdresser of York award. While I would love to win, it's already an incredible honour to have made it this far. Thank you to everyone who took the time to vote for me!'

Carlisle salon 'humbled' after nomination for Best Hairdresser 2025 award
We're highlighting the shortlisted hairdressers in our competition in the News & Star. Each of the establishments will be featured over ten issues. Salon Vibe has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Hairdresser 2025' award. The salon is located on Carlisle's Denton Street and is owned by Sian Jones who opened her business in August 2021 when she was 22 years old. After being informed that Salon Vibe has been chosen by News & Star readers to feature in the final ten of the 'Best Hairdresser 2025' award, Sian was on hand to express her delight. Salon Vibe (Image: Supplied) She said: "It's so humbling to have been nominated for this award, I know that sounds really cheesy but it is really humbling. "Considering the age I was when I opened up the salon, the biggest thing for me was that I started off by myself and built the team up so hearing that feedback is really appreciated. "I specialise in har and when I was opening up the place I had worked in many salons before and I wanted to use my experience to create a really down-to-earth and comfortable place where you can come in your pyjamas if you really wanted to, a home from home. "What I love most about this is that clients become friends and we all muck in and help each other out and it's just an amazing job." (Image: Supplied) Sian also discussed why she believes that her clients enjoy visiting her salon, with her and her team's 'down-to-earth' personas as well as wide range of services playing a key role in this. She said: "I think people obviously like the great work that we do, we have so much fun and have a laugh. We are professional but we are also normal, down-to-earth people and I think people like to see that. "I think a big factor as well is the fact that we offer everything from hair, beauty, aesthetic, teeth, and dog grooming which I think sets us apart from others."
