New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath pulled the leg of actor and BJP MP Ravi Kishan over building a house on top of a drain in Gorakhpur. The comment made at an event where Mr Kishan was also present drew laughter from the audience. Yogi Adityanath congratulated the Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation for its impressive performance in the Swachh Survekshan Awards where it came in the list of top 10 cities. GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur were declared 'Best SaifaiMitra Surakshit Shehar' for their outstanding commitment to the safety and dignity of sanitation workers in the Swachh Survekshan awards. The chief minister while explaining the contribution of the municipal agency and residents of Gorakhpur in keeping the city clean said, "I appreciate the whole team of the municipal corporation, which has sanitation workers, councillors, and cleanliness committees," he added. On widening roads and drains, Yogi Adityanath said it is sometimes not easy as there are encroachments. "Some people encroach upon drains. Ravi Kishan ji also built a house on top of a drain in Ramgarh Tal area. I told him not to build a house there. It will lead to inconvenience to the public. You can build the house some distance away from the drain. It will help in smooth flow of sewage," the chief minister said, drawing a laugh from the audience. The chief minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 253 crore in Gorakhpur. He inaugurated the state's first urban flood management cell and early warning system. Others who attended the event included Gorakhnath temple head priest Yogi Kamalnath, mayor Manglesh Shrivastava, MLA Vipin Singh, MLC Dharmendra Singh, and other dignitaries.

With Indore leading the way, multiple Madhya Pradesh cities shine at Swachh Survekshan awards

Madhya Pradesh's Indore retained its top spot as the cleanest city in the country for the eighth time in a row as President Draupadi Murmu gave away the Swachh Survekshan, 2025 awards in New Delhi on Thursday. Multiple other cities, including the State capital Bhopal also won awards in various other categories. State Cabinet Minister for Urban Development and Housing Kailash Vijayvargiya, an MLA from Indore, and city Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav received the award for the cleanest city in the 'Super Swachh League' cities with above 10 lakh population category. Bhopal, on the other hand, bagged the second place in the 'Swachh Shehar' category with above 10 lakh population, while neighbouring Dewas won the first rank in the 50,000-3 lakh population category. Shahganj, a town in Sehore district, won the third place in the less than 20,000 population category. Pilgrim city of Ujjain, the hometown of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, also won the fourth place in the 'Super Swachh League' cities with population between 3 and 10 lakh, while Budhni, the hometown of Union Minister and former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, was ranked fifth in the less than 20,000 population category. Jabalpur was declared 'Best SaifaiMitra Surakshit Shehar (safest city for sanitation workers)' along with Uttar Pradesh's Gorakhpur and Andhra Pradesh's Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation for their outstanding commitment to the safety and dignity of sanitation workers. Meanwhile, Jabalpur also got a special mention in the 'Recognition of Special Initiative of Swachh Mahakumbh 2025' category, while Gwalior was named the 'Promising Swachh Shehar' of the State. Mr. Yadav, who is currently in Spain for an official visit, congratulated the public, officials and the sanitation workers across the State. 'I am happy that Madhya Pradesh has topped once again as always and receiving cleanliness awards in various categories proves that Madhya Pradesh has now become the pioneer in cleanliness in the country. I extend hearty congratulations and best wishes to all the citizens of the State's local bodies, especially the sanitation workers, public representatives and concerned officials for this success,' Mr. Yadav said, while praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving an opportunity to cities to compete in cleanliness. Meanwhile, the State Government said that 203 cities and towns of Madhya Pradesh received star rating certifications this year, 12 percent more than the last year's 157 cities. 'In the survey, Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur got 7 star rank, Dewas, Rewa and Satna got 5 star rank. 36 cities of the state got 3 star rank and 161 cities got one star rank,' the Government said in a statement.

Indore retained the tag of cleanest city in the country for the eighth consecutive time. President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at the 9th edition of the Swachh Survekshan award ceremony. Union housing and urban affairs minister Manohar Lal Khattar was also present at the event. The ministry also shared a list of cities that have emerged as new entrants in the list of cleanest cities in India. Ahmedabad, Bhopal and Lucknow have emerged as India's new clean cities. This year, the awards have been presented across 4 categories: a) Super Swachh League Cities b) Top 3 clean cities in 5 population categories c) Special Category: Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh d) State Level Awards - Promising clean city of State/UT. Vijayawada made it to the fourth place in the first category of awards for Super Swachh League cities. A total of 78 Awards have been presented this year. In the fourth category of awards, Vita in Maharashtra got the first rank, Saswad bagged second position, Deolali Pavara third and Dungarpur was fourth. . The rankings for Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 have been determined by adopting a smart, structured approach and using a framework of 10 parameters and 54 indicators to evaluate sanitation, waste management & service delivery. 'Best Ganga town' was awarded to Prayagraj, while Secunderabad Cantonment received the honor of 'Best Cantonment Board' in recognition of its outstanding sanitation efforts. GVMC Visakhapatnam, Jabalpur, and Gorakhpur were named 'Best SaifaiMitra Surakshit Shehar' for their exceptional dedication to ensuring the safety and dignity of sanitation workers. Additionally, special recognition was given to the State Government of Uttar Pradesh, Prayagraj Mela Adhikari, and Prayagraj Municipal Corporation for their exemplary urban waste management during the Mahakumbh, the world's largest gathering, which saw an estimated attendance of 660 million people.
