Major twist in Rangers manager search as new ODDS-ON favourite to become Ibrox boss revealed

Ancelotti was previously the favourite, but now the bookies have got a new odds-on favourite for the role. One section read: "Our first priority together is clear: hiring a new men's head coach. "That process is already well underway, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon." Former Real Madrid coach Ancelotti has been leading the race for quite some time, but now Martin has overtaken him, according to the experts at Betfair. It has been a winding path for the Gers in their search for a new gaffer, ex-boss Steven Gerrard looked most likely at one point, but has since ruled himself out of the race. There was a point where both Ancelotti and Martin looked to be eyeing jobs away from Ibrox too, with the Scot set to take over at Leicester, and Ancelotti looking into the continent for his first managerial gig. Both names have remained firmly in the running though, and look to be the two remaining serious contenders. Martin has been out of a job since December, when he was sacked from Premier League basement boys Southampton after 73 matches in charge of club, which included a promotion back to England's top flight. Ancelotti on the other hand is yet to have his first management gig, but has coached under his dad Carlo since 2012, most recently as Los Blancos assistant manager. The Italian looked set to follow his dad once more as he embarked on the Brazil national team job, but has decided he wants to start a management career of his own. With Rangers' takeover finally announced earlier this week, the club look to move fast in securing the signature of their new boss. Rangers fans react as 49ers takeover completed It was announced that the US consortium would invest fresh capital of around £20million into the Light Blues. Rangers' pre-season starts in the next few weeks, with Champions League qualifiers rapidly approaching too. The new chiefs will want their man in place sooner, rather than later. Championship title and promotion odds 2025/26: Wrexham 6/1 to make Premier League, Ipswich faves ahead of Southampton

IPSWICH TOWN are the early favourites to win the 2025/26 Championship and make an immediate return to the Premier League. The Tractor Boys are the 9/2 frontrunners with Betfair to go one better than 2023/24 and win the second tier and bounce straight back up. Championship title odds 2025-26 Odds from Betfair Ipswich 9/2 Southampton 11/2 Sheffield United 17/2 Middlesbrough, Birmingham, Coventry 9/1 Leicester 11/1 Norwich, West Brom, Wrexham 14/1 Bristol City, Watford, Stoke, Swansea, Millwall 28/1 Hull, Blackburn 33/1 Sheffield Wednesday, Derby 40/1 QPR, Preston, Portsmouth 50/1 Charlton, Oxford 80/1 Kieran McKenna's men were relegated from the Premier League some time ago after a disappointing campaign. All three promoted sides toiled in truth, accumulating the lowest points of bottom three sides in Premier League history. But with three of the biggest clubs in the Championship all gaining promotion this season, it looks a really wide open chase for the Premier League. So much so, Wrexham and their Hollywood owners are incredibly just 6/1 to gain promotion for a FOURTH successive year and reach the Premier League. It was the dream and ambition of the owners to reach the Premier League within five years but given it took them two bites to get out of the National League, saying it was farfetched would be an understatement. But back-to-back-to-back promotions from non-league to the Championship has the supporters dreaming of the impossible and only eight sides are shorter odds for promotion than them before a ball is kicked. They're also just 14/1 to win the Championship in 2025/26. It's Ipswich who lead the betting in that market at 9/2, just ahead of Will Still's Southampton at 11/2 to win the league and just 7/4 for promotion. Sheffield United missed out on promotion in the most agonising way possible by conceding an injury-time goal in the play-off final to lose to Sunderland. They're 17/2 for title success this coming season and 23/10 to return to the top flight this time. Leicester (11/1) find themselves further down the betting list to win the title again having won it two years ago, while the 4/1 for promotion is bound to be popular with punters. Betfair spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: 'Ipswich are the early 9/2 favourites to make an immediate return to the Premier League by winning the Championship next season. "Southampton follow at 11/2, with Sheffield United 17/2 to go one better than their play-off final defeat against Sunderland. 'The Tractor Boys are the frontrunners to be promoted from the second tier, with Birmingham 11/4 and Wrexham 6/1 amongst the contenders to reach the top-flight ahead of the new campaign.' Liverpool can reign again but promoted clubs are set to struggle

It's way too early to make predictions for next season, let alone place bets on possible outcomes regarding promotion, relegation and winning titles but what here we go anyway. The toughest question centres on which club will win the Premier League title. Newly-crowned champions Liverpool are the 21/20 favourites with Sporting Index and SpreadEx with Arsenal, unsurprisingly, second in the betting at 5/2 with bet365, Betfair, Betfred, Paddy Power and many others. Manchester City are next at a widespread 9/4 while Newcastle are 16/1 with SpreadEx and Sporting Index with Chelsea 22/1 at Paddy Power and Betfair. The Blues are each-way value at half the odds to finish in the top two given they are the most likely to spend big in the transfer market and because they qualified for the Champions League but it is definitely best for punters to save their cash until as near to the start of the season as possible to see how player recruitment pans out. It is safer to look at the relegation market where teams promoted from the second tier could make an immediate return to the Championship. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link so we can send you football news tailored to you. Sunderland are no better than 2/5 with Betway to spend just 12 months in the top flight after winning Saturday's dramatic play-off final against Sheffield United at Wembley and, although they will be backed to the hilt by their fanatical Wearside support, it is unlikely their owners have pockets deep enough to fix all their maladies. Burnley have a strong defence and would boost their chances of survival if they can unearth some attacking gems to score enough goals to keep them up but that's a difficult task and they are just 4/9 with Ladbrokes, Coral and Betfred to drop through the trap door. The side which may just buck the trend is Leeds United. The Championship winners are 5/6 with the same three firms to be relegated but have a decent squad and a few strong signings could keep their heads above water. It won't be easy as Tottenham and Manchester United won't be as awful as they were this year and the likes of Bournemouth, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Brighton are now established in the top tier and will be looking at making moves up the table rather than down it. West Ham should also improve and Everton will benefit from being in their new stadium but Wolves are vulnerable if they lose Matheus Cunha and are 4/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral to finish in the bottom three. More Trending The other surprise relegation package may be Brentford at 6/1 with the same outlets as they could sell both Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa who scored 20 and 19 league goals respectively this term. Hubert Hurkacz reached the final of the Geneva Open where he took Novak Djokovic to three sets before the Serbian won his 100th career title, as predicted here at 12/5. The 28-year-old from Poland faces out-of-sorts Joao Fonseca in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros and should be backed to advance at 13/10 with William Hill and bet365. Ons Jabeur has reached the quarter-finals of the French Open in each of the last two renewals and is 11/10 with bet365 to beat Magdalena Frech, who has never been beyond the second round, in straight sets. Porta Fortuna makes stylish return to action

Donnacha O'Brien's filly has a superb CV and is a four-time Group winner who has been out of the top three only once in her career when unplaced in the Breeders' Cup Mile last November. Under Ryan Moore the 5-4 favourite took to the track for the first time this season and showed all of her class was still intact with a resolute Group Two success from Paddy Twomey's One Look. 'It was a lovely starting point for her. She did things right, relaxed nicely and quickened up well,' said O'Brien. 'Ryan said she got a little bit idle in front. That's beautiful and should set her up nicely for Ascot now. 'The Queen Anne seems likely, we have the option of that or the Duke of Cambridge, but I think she won so nicely and she's training good and she's happy and healthy. I think we have to look at the Queen Anne.' When asked if the Breeders Cup would be the late-season target again, he added: 'We'll see what happens. It was a target last year and the year before so it seems like an obvious possibility at the end of the year. 'We'll get through the rest of the year and see how she is and hatch a plan then.' Porta Fortuna was cut to 6-1 from 8-1 for the Queen Anne with both Betfair and Coral.
